The worst assumption I have ever heard someone express was that bisexual men only say that they are bisexual because they don't want too say that they are gay

Because of my hair and the shape of my nose, people assume I am Jewish. When I say "people" I mean "dumb assholes", though the statements and offensive things those folk say really help me weed out the kids I don't want to talk to at parties or college. Seriously, motherfuckers run on with the joke and sound like frat-trash Philistines:

"Haha is there a fucking yamaka underneath your beanie dude?"

"What do you MEAN you don't have booze money? I thought you were Jewish!"

"You own one candle?! I thought you guys had like 12 or 13 slot candle holding thing."

"When Jesus comes back he is going rip your dick off and feed it to a pig."

People I know offline and, family members who I don't interact with on a regular basis assume I'm good with computers. I don't know if they think I can program code or, communicate with computers or, make them...do...things...Shit, I don't know what people think I can do but I'm terrible with computers. I know how to buy things and, find videos sometimes but I can't really make computers...work...or stop being...bad.

People tend to assume that I'm always in a bad mood because I don't emote much. I usually in a fairly decent mood, but when people randomly start coming up and asking "What's your problem?", then my mood starts to turn sour.

People also assume I'm some sort of health nut because I like broccoli. While I usually try to avoid excessive amounts of junk-food, and eat things with nutritional value, I'm by no means a health nut. I just really fucking like broccoli :D

Ok so recently I was going through various comment sections and forums and time and time again I notice that many US citizens tend to assume everyone else is from the US. This baffles me I don't get why I only ever see it in people from the US. It drives me insane it is like these people assume the rest of the world doesn't exist or is so obsolete they don't get the net. How about you guys what do people assume that drives you insane?
I think that may be because for the most part, American media don't acknowledge the rest of the world as part of its audience. Forums and online games are the first place I had much contact with Europeans while in the US. I met a few more while in college, but forums are still the main thing.

It may be different in Europe because, aside from the UK, you share more borders with each other and have that whole EU thing going on, so you HAVE to acknowledge the presence of other countries. We just have Canada and Mexico. One is like a shy roommate that stays in its room all day and is easily forgotten for months at a time, the other we have a complex and awkward history and present with and try not to think about too much.

OT: It drives me nuts when people assume things about what a group believes or wants without actually learning the first thing about said group, or assuming that since I like or dislike one thing that a group likes, that I like or dislike everything that group likes.

I also dislike it when advertisers assume I give a damn about their campaigns. No, your product is not that special, your ad is not that important. No one needs to know about your DishTV offer who isn't going to look it up themselves. Quit being a marketer and do something useful.
Australia. We dont share our boarders with anyone, yet perfectly knowledgeable of the rest of the world. My sisters went to America earlier this year and everyone thought they meant Austria or something and seemed surpised that we actaually have a cultural over here and weren't riding around in Kangaroo's living in the woods.

Do they actually teach Geography in in the U.S.A?
They teach it, the students don't pay attention worth a shat though.

Where does the logic from that go?

"Yeah, I like to make out with other guys sometimes, BUT DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME GAY."

That I'm instantly thought to be arrogant, lazy, disrespectful, and have no work ethic because I'm young.

The thing was that the person making the asumption believed that bisexuallity didn't exist and people just said that they were bisexual so that they don't have too come out as homosexualls

(****** is propably a more appropriate translation for what she said, as in: "Bisexualls only say that they are bisexual so that they don't have too say that they are fags.")

This.
You're not alone, I really don't care about charity, or giving in general, and since I live in a Christian society, and I'm an atheist, I get quite a few ugly looks from assuming people.
Also, people assume I'm religious just because I attend a church school, and then look upon me with horror when I shatter that particular façade.
You both sound like sociopaths.

I'm not too fussed by people making assumptions. Heck, I make assumptions of plenty of other people - pretty much everyone! - and they're certainly not always positive. I think that the most insulting assumption that you can make is that everybody should be extra considerate for you.
The best part about assumptions is that as a general rule, if you tell someone that their assumption is wrong, they think it's interesting . It becomes a talking point, you make friends or at least someone to talk to on a long train journey by breaking assumptions that you make of others and vice versa. Those are the best first conversations, and we would not have those if it were not for assumptions.

People who assume that they are better then everybody else because they don't use social media or text. I don't mess with Facebook that much but I don't act like I'm some edgy rebel who's above all those so called sheeple.

People who assume because I eat faster than most that i'm not enjoying my food. Fuck off, I just don't spend 20 minutes eating one sandwich.
This a million times over,I tend to eat fast because my work could call me at any moment.

Also for some reason people assume that because I like sushi I should like every other food in the world. No sushi has tastes that I enjoy, chili does not and looks disgusting.

As a side note to that, everyone seems to believe that sushi is always raw fish,it can be anything it wants to be, sushi is determined by the rice not what is put on/in the rice.

Practically everyone assumes that my best mate and I are an item. Understandable when we first met and started hanging out maybe, but three fucking years later people who know us well still assume there's something going on. Honestly, some of our closest friends just flat out don't believe that we're not/have not ever been sleeping together, despite the fact that I'm in a very happy long term relationship and, until very recently, so was he. Strangers do it as well, which I guess is forgiveable, but seriously, it's not like we go round arm in arm and flirt outrageously or anything. It's literally just because we are a male and a female of similar ages who spend a lot of time together >.<

Also, people assume that because I'm a feminist... actually, no. Hell no. Not opening that can of worms again.

I hate how people just assume I have a Facebook/MySpace/Twitter/etc.
Then act like there is something wrong with you when you tell them that you don't.

A guy in my year back at college actually did that though. They said they were bisexual in order to gauge the reaction from people, then came out when he realised none of us were bothered.

Obviously this doesn't apply to all bisexuals, but have you noticed that with lesbians guys tend to have almost the opposite reaction sometimes? That no girls only like other girls, that secretly, they still want guys too.

Also, sorry to nitpick, but you use the wrong type of 'to/too'.

Nothing really anymore, but back in college, people used to constantly assume I was gay because I wasn't comfortable talking about my sex life with people I barely knew. I don't even understand how that works.
I get that too. Apparently in order to be heterosexual you have to leer at every girl you see and make crude comments about what you'd like to do with her.

Jehovah's Witnesses. Just because you're from a religion doesn't mean I'm not gonna turn the f*cking hose on you when you come up to my door.

People assuming that because I'm a gamer in my 20's, that I must want to know all about the latest Gears of Battle: Honor Duty or whatever. I couldn't give less of a shit about that sort of thing. "Oh look, a new way to kill virtual foreigners. Fascinating. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to explore the cosmos with my main man Mario."

People assume I am a lightweight drinker, excuse me for drinking faster than you and drinking stronger alcohol than you...
My problem is kind of inverse to that- I am a lightweight, but because I exclusively drink spirits and drink them quickly, people think I must be a heavyweight and keep egging me on to have more... which, in my plastered state, is hard to turn down.

The generalizations burrrn. They BURN! This doesn't make you sound smart, extruding baseless assumptions from your thought-anus. This whole thread is about how stupid assumptions are obnoxious. I know! Lets post stupid assumptions! Makes perfect sense.

Yes, for fucks sake. Sociopathy is a bad thing. What the hell planet are you living on?
Unless that was a subtle joke, in which case, it made me chuckle.
