My sisters went to America earlier this year and everyone thought they meant Austria or something and seemed surpised that we actaually have a cultural over here and weren't riding around in Kangaroo's living in the woods.McMullen said:I think that may be because for the most part, American media don't acknowledge the rest of the world as part of its audience. Forums and online games are the first place I had much contact with Europeans while in the US. I met a few more while in college, but forums are still the main thing.aba1 said:Ok so recently I was going through various comment sections and forums and time and time again I notice that many US citizens tend to assume everyone else is from the US. This baffles me I don't get why I only ever see it in people from the US. It drives me insane it is like these people assume the rest of the world doesn't exist or is so obsolete they don't get the net. How about you guys what do people assume that drives you insane?
It may be different in Europe because, aside from the UK, you share more borders with each other and have that whole EU thing going on, so you HAVE to acknowledge the presence of other countries. We just have Canada and Mexico. One is like a shy roommate that stays in its room all day and is easily forgotten for months at a time, the other we have a complex and awkward history and present with and try not to think about too much.
OT: It drives me nuts when people assume things about what a group believes or wants without actually learning the first thing about said group, or assuming that since I like or dislike one thing that a group likes, that I like or dislike everything that group likes.
I also dislike it when advertisers assume I give a damn about their campaigns. No, your product is not that special, your ad is not that important. No one needs to know about your DishTV offer who isn't going to look it up themselves. Quit being a marketer and do something useful.
Do they actually teach Geography in in the U.S.A?
Where does the logic from that go?Arfonious said:The worst assumption I have ever heard someone express was that bisexual men only say that they are bisexual because they don't want too say that they are gay
The thing was that the person making the asumption believed that bisexuallity didn't exist and people just said that they were bisexual so that they don't have too come out as homosexuallsDangit2019 said:Where does the logic from that go?Arfonious said:The worst assumption I have ever heard someone express was that bisexual men only say that they are bisexual because they don't want too say that they are gay
"Yeah, I like to make out with other guys sometimes, BUT DON'T YOU DARE CALL ME GAY."

These annoying people who stop you in the street looking for money for X or Y charity assume I care about what they're trying to help.
You're not alone, I really don't care about charity, or giving in general, and since I live in a Christian society, and I'm an atheist, I get quite a few ugly looks from assuming people.
Also, people assume I'm religious just because I attend a church school, and then look upon me with horror when I shatter that particular façade.
This a million times over,I tend to eat fast because my work could call me at any moment.DugMachine said:People who assume because I eat faster than most that i'm not enjoying my food. Fuck off, I just don't spend 20 minutes eating one sandwich.
Then act like there is something wrong with you when you tell them that you don't.RADIALTHRONE1 said:I hate how people just assume I have a Facebook/MySpace/Twitter/etc.
A guy in my year back at college actually did that though. They said they were bisexual in order to gauge the reaction from people, then came out when he realised none of us were bothered.Arfonious said:The worst assumption I have ever heard someone express was that bisexual men only say that they are bisexual because they don't want too say that they are gay
I get that too. Apparently in order to be heterosexual you have to leer at every girl you see and make crude comments about what you'd like to do with her.Myndnix said:Nothing really anymore, but back in college, people used to constantly assume I was gay because I wasn't comfortable talking about my sex life with people I barely knew. I don't even understand how that works.
My problem is kind of inverse to that- I am a lightweight, but because I exclusively drink spirits and drink them quickly, people think I must be a heavyweight and keep egging me on to have more... which, in my plastered state, is hard to turn down.TizzytheTormentor said:People assume I am a lightweight drinker, excuse me for drinking faster than you and drinking stronger alcohol than you...

The generalizations burrrn. They BURN! This doesn't make you sound smart, extruding baseless assumptions from your thought-anus. This whole thread is about how stupid assumptions are obnoxious. I know! Lets post stupid assumptions! Makes perfect sense.Dangit2019 said:They teach it, the students don't pay attention worth a shat though.MrHide-Patten said:Do they actually teach Geography in in the U.S.A?
Yes, for fucks sake. Sociopathy is a bad thing. What the hell planet are you living on?King of Asgaard said:I am, is that a bad thing?KnowYourOnion said:You both sound like sociopaths.
