you know what? thats fucking retarded, the minute somone says somthing like that (especially in regards being gossiping, money eating harpies) then you really are an ass
because saying all women is x is pretty much saying 51% of all humans are a certain way...and in a way such generalisations are dehumanising, as your rejecting the Idea that women are like you in any way shape or form
makes my blood boil I swear
Mine's about 4-Inches past my shoulders and I get people I don't know telling me to cut it regularly.IamQ said:Huh... I'm growing my hair right now, it's only just touching my shoulders right now, and so far I haven't gotten any real complaints. But who knows, maybe I push the wrong buttons with some people by having long hair. I'm also sporting a small beard, which I've actually been told to shave, but not in any rude way.
I've been thinking, are we in Sweden just Canadians in disguise?
Gender and sex are not the same thing, therefore some women identify as men.Ninjamedic said:Well going through a Catholic Public School, I was once asked if I actually planned on shooting everyone based on the fact that I identified as a Gamer at the time.

Boom.
[sub][sub]Not exact but it's a decent enough argument.[/sub][/sub]
I laughed hard at that because the same thing happens to me and I reply in my deep voice with "why thank you sir".Phasmal said:I think the best heckle about his long hair my ex got was the unintentional one.shinsei-J said:Here in rural Australia, people are dicks.
If they don't like something they will insult it, I get random people I've never met coming up to me and telling me to cut my hair because "Men shouldn't have long hair", "you look like a girl" and my personal Favorite "It's gross for men to have long hair".
Another thing I got smack about was when I bought an anime for the store the shop clerk said something along the lines of "weirdo..."
Such lovely people.
We were walking home late at night from seeing a movie and we passed a stereotypical pisshead, staggering and drinking out of a bottle in a bag.
As we passed him, he tipped his hat and slurred `Night, ladies`.
My ex was like `Did he just say-?`
I just told him to keep walking.
Still, it was pretty funny.
Yes,you can define what it means to you. What you don't get to decide is what it means to others, particularly when you're in the minority. I also never said "everyone agrees" with the agendas. I specifically mentioned the loud, effective groups, in fact. There is an established presence and an established impression of that presence, same as there are for the aforementioned political parties. If you're not "in line" with that presence, good for you, but you're not a special, unique snowflake that people should assume you disagree with the ones who give "feminism" it's (subjectively) negative image with no action from you. You take the name, it's no one else's fault that they assume that you run from the same playbook.Phasmal said:Actually, feminism is wide and varied, so yeah I do get to define what it means to me.
So, discriminating and assuming are fine if the person is a feminist?
Also, please point me towards the feminist political headquarters, because I've been a feminist since forever and its never been a place with certain agendas that everyone agrees on. It's more an exchange of ideas and an open dialogue about gender roles.
Exactly. That sort of crap is no way implied by the label, as opposed to the political labels above.Suki_ said:No its more like telling people you are a gamer and having to specify that you are not in fact a 35 year old virgin living in your parents basement who hasnt seen the light of day in ten years.
Wait gay for NOT caring about how your hair looks?Trippy Turtle said:I don't really know because if they are the type of person to say stuff like that I do my best to avoid them.
All I know I'm called is a nerd or gay for having glasses/not caring about how my hair looks.
I'm not sure they understand that just because I don't want a girlfriend right now it doesn't mean I want a boyfriend. Its worse right now because formals coming up so a lot of people are getting haircuts.Petromir said:Wait gay for NOT caring about how your hair looks?Trippy Turtle said:I don't really know because if they are the type of person to say stuff like that I do my best to avoid them.

Of the gay men I know the only stereotypical part they all fit is caring about how they and particularly hair look......
Well, that and the whole 'sexually attracted to other men' thing.Petromir said:Of the gay men I know the only stereotypical part they all fit is caring about how they and particularly hair look......
