The death of L in Death Note. That always bugged me. I was hoping for L to send Light to the death penalty as the ending of the series.

Destroy All Humans

First one was original, a bit buggy but good.

Number two was the best- fixed the bugs and allowed me to listen to jokes about Public finance and space Russians

Path of the Furon completely mishandled the established story, a rip off of the previous gameplay with no attempt at refinement.

I WAS going to mention Star Wars and the stupid fucking prequel trilogy, but that seems a bit redundant now, although I would advise everyone to watch these videos. [http://redlettermedia.com/phantom_menace.html] Apart from being a brilliant analysis of everything the prequels did wrong, they're also hilarious.

So instead, even though it wasn't exactly one of my FAVOURITE books series, I will highlight Vampire Hunter D volume 11, Pale Fallen Angels (parts 3 & 4). I was tolerating the series up to that point despite its endless irritating obsession with gushing over D more than Bella Swan over Edward Cullen (at least D remains a credible badass) but the ending was just such an insane Diabolus Ex Machina [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DiabolusExMachina] that it ruined the entire experience of reading what had at that point been the most epic arc in the entire book series. Seriously, it's almost like the author thought "this ending is too happy- well I know! Let's FUCK EVERYTHING UP!" So I stopped buying the books after that.

George Lucas ruined my favorite series. His fetish for CGI was so haphazardly inserted into such a great series that makes the special editions almost unwatchable. Thankfully for me, I have the original trilogy on VHS from when it was still the awesome theatrical release.

Ah, the orange force, the awesome things being missed in CGI recuts.

Dude the minute I saw the thread title I checked I was spelling midichlorians correctly. It didn't "ruin" it for me but it was the beginning of some shitty lore.

I was quite enjoying Death Note, then they killed off the best character...and the only likeable character in the series considering they made the protaganist out to be a bit of a douche.
This pretty much sums my entire view on Deathnote. A wonderful little series till...IT HAPPENED. Then the replacements were so boring....

Chuck. For making the ending of season 2 amd the entire season 3 into a Matrix rip-off and a far too extended love drama. Bleh.

Call of Duty. For developing MW2 to the lowest common denominator. Bleh once again.

I know this is a touchy subject for some people, so please for the love of the flying spaghetti monster don't flame and troll the crap out of this, but what has almost put you entirely off what would be your favorite movie/trilogy

For me, my favorite movies are the star wars trilogy(s) (not so much the most recent trilogy, obviously)

Number one for me is one word: Midichlorians
and number two is the "Digitally Remastered" versions of the original trilogy

Say what you will, Midichlorians were the most ridiculous cover up in the history of science fiction. The other problem is, it means that the force is simply a germ, rather than an all-powerful cosmic force. Lots of people know all the reasons, and there are plenty of articles on Cracked.com and similar sites on this topic, so I'm not even going to bother explaining it. Basically Lucas screwed up everyone's understanding of the force in one, over-simplifying swoop, and for this I will forever be irritated.

And for why the digitally remastered copy of the first trilogy iritates me, check this out:

I think the "These aren't the droids you're looking" for scene at 1:24 explains a fair chunk. If you want the really bad parts, just watch the remastered version of Return of the Jedi
Hmmm, well I will say that as much as I don't like the "Midichlorians" myself I don't nessicarly think they changed much of anything, other than showing that "The Force" works through some physical means. The powers themselves come from microorganisms, but what decides who gets them, or decided what they could do to begin with?

Even in the prequel trilogy, all of the key elements are present. The Jedi are weakening, the force is "cloudy" for them. There is a prophecy about "bringing balance to the force". The Sith are extremely powerful. Anakin tries to resist, but the universe keeps conspiring to turn him to the Dark Side (what happened with his mother for example).

Simply put they needed some way to explain how the force orders could tell who had the potential for force powers, and who did not. Simply sensing people favored by The Force would have prevented the logic of The Emperor not having detected guys like Anakin to begin with.

I'm not intending to defend it too heavily, since I don't care for it myself, but I think a lot of people over react to it a bit much.

Now in my case, I'm far more upset over the whole "Han Shot First" thing, simply because the whole scene was changed to make it more of a kids movie. The way that scene went down originally was cool, because it helped establish Han's credentials as a hard case. Without gunning down Greedo that way, I doubt he would have been anywhere near as popular.

Oddly enough, though I despise mysticism in all forms in real life, I rather like it as a storytelling mechanism. I really got into how they used it in Battlestar Galactica. So yeah, the midichlorians did ruin one aspect of Star Wars, but the grand prize of ruining the franchise has got to go to it's creator. While the Jedi fights were awesome, just about the rest of the prequel trilogy was horrendous. It even had fantastic actors like Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman acting horribly.

I'm sure to be ninja'd on this, but I'll go ahead and say Joel Schumacher taking over the Batman series. I know he's homosexual (and has made great movies both about this topic and others), but even the gay people I knew winced when he put nipples on Clooney's batsuit, looked at Alicia Silverstone, and said "meh." BTW, that's when I called it.

Brett Ratner taking over the X-Men. If you watch the deleted scenes, he even included Psylocke-as a bad guy. That's just sacrilege.

The last two (REAL) Aliens movies. Killing Ripley in the third movie and then resurrecting her in the fourth for what was only half of a good movie.

What Johnathan Mostow and McG did to the (hopefully) final 2 Terminator films.

Want to know what ruined the series? CGI and the ravedance with gigantic glowstick scenes. The fights should have been more like the originals.
I thought you were talking about the Matrix there.

Fox executives and Lucas's meddling.

Canceled Firefly and tore up the essence of Star Wars. Shame and loathing upon them both

usually the series it's self is responsible for entertainment suicide

I'll talk about Dexter for a second
in season 1 he has to worry about a family member and his sister's boyfriend
in season 2 he has to deal with his relationships, a cop that's on to him, and an FBI legend
in season 3 he has to cope with having a crazy friend
in season 4 more relationship issues and another crazy friend
in season 5 another cop that's on to him (who is also doing his sister) hires a retired FBI legend to investigate him. while he tries to deal with his family member and workout his relationship with his new crazy friend.

unless he gets caught in season 6 Dexter will commit entertainment suicide

TL;DR/ didn't want Dexter spoiled
series have to come to an end once their stories are told
otherwise they just spiral into a repetitive unwatchable mess

the Simpsons is the only series that's managed to avoid that

a good series builds towards something
and you can't build indefinitely or else you cross the line into piling (see Lost)
you have to build towards a satisfyingly epic conclusion
for a perfect example watch all 8 seasons of Red Vs Blue

they either planed it all out and they're geniuses or they just winged it and they're the luckiest bastards ever

Black Sabbath after Ozzy left

atrocities of the highest order, wouldn't annoy me if before these abominations they hadn't created some of the best albums!
You have got to be kidding me. Some of Tony Iommi's best stuff is after Ozzy left. Plus Ronnie James Dio is a waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better singer then Ozzy.

Some of their best songs are after Ozzy left. No Sabbath song gets to me like Heaven and Hell or Children of the Sea.

The AVP movies ruined both the Predator and Alien franchise in just two movies.(Technically one since the 1st one was already an abomination and the second one was even worse)
Strange thing though, the Alien vs Predator games didn't ruin any of the franchises at all, but just added to them (AvP 2 is one of my favourite games for PC mostly due to sheer atmosphere).

How come the video game industry is so good at improving a franchise in many ways, but Hollywood seem to destroy everthing it comes into contact with?

Anyhow, back on topic:

The emergence of The Ori in Stargate SG-1 always makes me get bored with the series for some reason.

I loved the Goa'uld as well as the replicators, and these antagonists always served to make for exciting episodes, but once The Ori starts to pop up, the quality of the show somehow drastically sinks for some reason.

The insertion of politics into like every TV show nowadays. I don't want to hear some stupid hack writers' opinions on gun control or abortion shoehorned into a crime drama.
Well, in fairness, a crime drama is probably a good place to discuss gun control, what with people getting shot with alarming frequency...
No.
No what? No, guns aren't used in many crimes? No, it makes no sense for police (or whoever the heroes of your chosen crime drama are) to have opinions on the law? No, people who deal with guns and gun crime on a regular basis would never advocate tighter control over who has access to firearms?

If Elmo gives a lecture on gun control, that's out of place. If cops in a crime drama talk about it, that makes perfect sense.
No, it isn't appropriate to discuss gun control during crime dramas because gun control has nothing to do with crime. Gun control is meant to protect the government from its own citizens, not the citizens against criminals.
Are you quite mad? Seriously.

L dying. The rest was just rubbish...
Professor Cutter dying D: not as much but kinda lost it's touch. But with Season 4 coming up, hopefully he'll come back!
