Altered Beast. I had such fond memories of that game on the Genesis and even in the Arcade, but playing it again a few years later on the Dreamcast compilation, it's just this awful little brawler with bad controls and boring levels.

Lord of the Rings IS still awesome!
Not what I said, read it again.
Lord of the Rings is still good. Not just because of what it's about or the unbelieveble detail, but also for the way it is written. Tolkien was a beast when it came to describing mood and atmosphere. Especialy with the Paths of the Dead, the fear and anguish just dripped of the page.

OT: The Jak & Daxter series. Still one of my favourite games. But when I tried to replay Jak 3 a while ago, even with cheats on, I just couldn't get pased how bad the controles really are. This generation controles have become as smooth as silk and replaying certain older games feels like you're rolling a brick around.
What I was talking about is how LOTR has been ripped off so much by modern fantasy that some might see it as another generic fantasy book, but like you said, it was Tolkien that made the books great and thats why its always being ripped off.

Also, damn your right. I'm surprised how so many people seem to have forgotten how much controls have improved while they're whining about how the only difference between a game from 1999 and a game from 2009 are the graphics. I've been going back and playing alot of platformers on the PS2 and its really made me appreciate how far we've come. Maybe that's one of the reasons I liked God of War so much; becaue its controls were actually pretty good (not perfect mind you)

Pogs. They were so cool back when...
Also, Crazy Bones/gogos/whatever they're called.
Finally! You remember them!
Everytime I ask someone about them they all say 'wut?'
Anyway OT:
Beyblades, Yu-gi-oh.
I still have my Yu-gi-oh cards, and I know a few people who still play with them. But yes I remember crazy bones and pogs from when I was in kindergarten.

The Wii. Everybody I knew was all like "Ohhhh, the Wii is so much fun! It's so cool!", & now that same everybody thinks it's shit, & I get my "I-told-you-so" moment.
Exactly this.

I could be grossly inappropriate and say breasts...

Instead i'll say classic metal bands. Exhibit A: Metallica.
Blasphemy!
How dare you say such things about the gods of metal?

OT:
Minidisk. I had 2 of them, and they were actually pretty neat.
But MP3 players are much more practical.

Pokemon cards. All the rage then, means of becoming a social pariah now.

...Did anyone actually ever play a game with them? Or were you like me and just collected them to resell?
I played a game with them. It was called the shiny ones beat the regular ones and Charizard beats everything.

Pocket watches. But what a magnificent dinosaur they were in their time.
Their day will come again! As soon as my job requires me to wear a three-piece, imma be all pocketwatch up in this ************.
Hell yeah! I did debate in high school when they made you dress up for it. In my final year I had a three-piece with a badass gold pocketwatch and a gold chain. Shit was so cash(I hate that phrase but it's the only way to describe it). Now I'm in college debate and they enforce casual dress. So sad.

OP: For me, Final Fantasy 7 didn't hold up to the test of time. It was great when I played it as a young kid. I went to replay it on the psn...it's just not the same... and is in general an eyesore.

The Grand theft auto series, i used to LOVE San Andreas, but then when I got IV and looked back on SA, it was terrrible, bad graphics, AI, and all the characters are not very well developed.
Waaaay better soundtrack though. Same for Vice city too actually.

The movie titanic, in it's time it was a masterpiece but now the dialogue is overused in crappy rip-offs and now everyone hates it >.>

Duel Masters. I liked the show for a bit, but the show was practically a parody of Yu-Gi-Oh, and the game was pretty much ripping off Magic: The Gathering. But me and my friends NEEDED them when they came out. I still have the Crystal Lancer card. Along with some other, not quite as cool, cards.

Harry Potter 1(The game). I remember liking it so much has a kid. I found an old copy of it in the attic 2 weeks ago. Installed and started playing but sadly it was just plain shit.

No one played the game. No one even knew HOW to play the game. We all just had them because our freinds had them.

I knew how to play the game... and could never find anyone with the patience to learn it from me.

Tekken. Seriously, if you compare it to most fighting games out now, especially to the current Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter, all you see is a broken fighting game where the first person to hit will combo til the end.

Agreed, the PS2-based GTAs have aged very badly indeed.
