It may have been incredibly well written, but it was also incredibly boring. It's probably because I've been brought up on action packed fast paced fantasy, or maybe it's because I was Peter Jacksons master pieces first, but I was extremely disappointed by the Lord of the Rings.
I preferred the Hobbit. A talking Dragon or army of wolves may have caused Frodo to be a little less moody and poetic.
I also saw the movie first and then I read the books. The book is a little more confuzing when comes to explaing things and the characters are lot more staight forward. Gollem is evil from the getgo and Aragorn isn't as doubtfull about himself as he is in the movie. I loved the movie and watching the characters was a lot more enjoyable then it was in the books. But I did miss the passage of time from the books and I was really disappionted with the Paths of the Dead scene in the Special Edition.
Kinda the same as how I experienced Watchmen. Saw the movie first then read the 'comic'. I loved the movie but I missed the looming theat of nuclear war that was conveyed so well in the 'comic'.
If I really love something I tend to nitpick at it.
Most of the character changes is what makes the LotR adaptations fail in my eyes. Aragorn is suppose to be a leader of a Kigdom and lead men into war, he basically spent all his life getting ready for moment he crossed the Path of the Dead and lead the Free People into the Gates of Mordor. In the movies he went from Ranger to King in a moment. No evolution at all.
"Heres a sword now be a King dammit!"
Even Arthur didn't become King when he pulled Exacalibur from the stone. In the books the character Aragorn is a Ranger AND a King.
Boromir another character that the movies ruined and missed THE WHOLE POINT. In the books Boromir is a noble man, the Captain of Gondor and son to the Stewart of Gondor. He goes with the Fellowship and becomes corrupted and seduced by the Ring. In the movies he is an asshole that sometimes gets some lucid moments, that was sent by Denethor to bring the ring to Gondor.(Watch TTT Extended Edition Faramir flashback scene)
Let's not get into Faramir, in which poor old Tolkien would have a heart attack just by watching it, considering it was Tolkien's favourite and the character that was the reflection of Tolkien in Middle-Earth.
Frodo, Sam, Gollum, Treebeard, Theoden, Gimli, Saruman, Sauron the LightHouse, Gandalf, Arwen...So the only thing that Peter Jackson got 100% right was the looks of Middle Earth.
The characters were drasticly changed and the plot was also changed beyond stupid in some parts. It's still good movies, it's just better to forget the books while watching them.
ANYWAY ON TOPIC!
Power Rangers. It used to be so cool....But now I wonder "Why did I watch this? It's so bad >.<".
