Games where your about to face the final threat, your just at the last town/camp/armory and you want to get weapons to save the world/nation. And that guy is over there selling stuff at outrageous prices.
"Hey, I'm going to go save the world."
"Cool, wish you luck! You want that special something to help you in your fight against evil?"
"Sure, thanks!"
"That'll be 1,000,000 gold."
"The !@#@!? I've been bludgeoned, stabbed, rained on, had idiots laughing at me, had to deal with a sappy romance subplot, and now I'm going to try to face death to save the world, and you're pulling this crap on me!?"
"Sorry, gotta eat."
I mean, I guess I could understand why they wouldn't just give you the ultra-powerful sword of death, but you'd think they could part with a few medpacks.
And that reminds me, where the hell do they get their items, and who do they sell them to? Who needs the Masamune unless they're fighting dragons or pure evil? How do these people make a living when they only have one customer that shows up once in their lifetime? Maybe that explains the outrageous prices. Maybe they had to take a loan from some shifty characters, and now need that one payment to make it all better...
