Umm... nothing.

Seriously, what kind of people do you folks hang out with that insult you for your taste in music and whatnot?

That's just bizarre.

And I get that statement a lot from other friends, that the music I love, which is full to the brim with instrumental and vocal talent, is "just noise"
If the video you so...kindly...brought to my attention is the music you love, I'm inclined to agree with your friends. I heard no talent of any kind in there, and I tried, I really did.
Not trying to spark an argument, just stating facts: I play the drums, have done for years, and when listening and watching Converge's drummer play I cannot concieve how I would even begin to try and play something that fast, precise and complicated. Right there, that's incredible talent. A mate of mine plays guitar and agrees that their riffs are mind-boglingly complex. So yeah there's buckets of talent in that band, it's just that the vocals are a tad overbearing for most

I've been belittled for liking Pokemon so much.

The worst part is that my father was the one doing that... :/
I know how you feel, my dad often makes fun of me for my interests. I didn't even tell him I play Pokemon still because I know what hsi reaction will be, and even though I can shut him up effectively if I tried I'm really tired of arguements like that.

I never understood why people insulted others for things they enjoy though.

My brother laughing when he saw me comparing Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh to it's 4Kids counterpart.

He's a bit of a ass like that.

Every friend I have insults me for liking "bad quality music", I listen to melodic death metal like In Flames, Soilwork and Scar Symmetry. They listen to Lady Gaga, Katy perry, Nomy and all that shite.

Also, around here, Fellwarden and I are the only ones who reads and participates on the Escapist, all the others is somthing like: "Escapist is so lamee, Facebook is much better." It makes me want to hit them.

I don't get ridiculed that often. And I don't make things clear regarding what I like and don't like. In fact when anyone asks me to play sports with them they are greeted with the old "I can't play ________. I got it shot off in Vietnam."

Also, when nervous I will either become extremely uncomfortable and tired (usually when I'm faced with a lot of people), or get anxious and start twitching and muttering to myself.

I also fight a lot. I don't even try to punch, I just grab and try to wrestle them to the ground. When fighting somebody I don't like, I go for the throat.

And somehow, I'm not ridiculed.

I freely admit to being a nerd, lesbian, audiophile, animation freak et al...

SO, no, people don't usually give me a hard time for liking any particular thing except Diet Coke.

ALTHOUGH...the guys at work will joke around and call me a closet country music fan because, whenever it's played within earshot or over our PA, it makes me visibly cringe and grind my teeth.

Does that count...? :B

I actually take a lot of pride in the fact that while I listen to "popular" bands, most of the stuff I like is foreign and, thus, almost entirely unknown by people like that.
So, imo, folks can talk shit about music all they want, chances are they only listen to pop/country top 40 radio anyway, and aren't willing to open up to other stuff, so I have little use for that type of person.

If given the chance I'd probably be ripped on for playing WoW... To be fair, the only reason people don't get the chance is that I keep it a secret.
Likewise. I never told anyone I played a few years ago for fear of becoming an outcast.

I don't play anymore, so it not an issue now.

Awesome avatar BTW.

I get insulted for being a Christian.

But game-wise I've never been insulted for anything other than the amount of time I used to spend on my 360.

I get insulted for having an afro...Its tragic really because if I become friends with someone who has insulted my afro they all of a sudden LOVE IT... And I sometimes get insulted for my music.

I get shit for saying I like anime. Especially when I try to describe what Clannad is about. I get even more shit for liking Princess Tutu (people usually just stop at the name).

Ignorant people like that tend to make me angry.

Likewise. Although I get it from my (younger!) brother. Who has since started replaying Sapphire.

OT: Physics, archery, reading for enjoyment... Essentially every hobby I have is considered weird by most people I know.
Also, apparently being English and not caring about football, or even the world cup, is unusual.
But hey, people have got used to my 'oddness', and I've stopped caring that some people find me strange.
