What is the big deal with the Metric system? All it is, is a way to measure. Our system is different. No system is better. Yes I am aware that Metric is based on 10, and ours is not.

Honestly though, I think Marijuana and Prostitution need to be legalized. Crime will go way down because everyone will be getting stoned and getting laid. Nobody wants to do shit when they are high, and if they are already getting laid, then they aren't thinking about rape.

Work productivity will remain the same. Seriously, I doubt it would change at all.

you sir are a moron, and have the logic of a two year old. good day to you

OT: educational reset button.. schools dont need more funding, they need competence.
my highschool for instance after my graduation, moved from a 4 period day to a 7 period day, forcing classes to be 45 min long as well as removing one elective class.

now students can worry MORE about pointless busy work, and learn even less because of over worked but no less under enthusiastic teachers.

some of the greatest techers i have ever seen engage the class and have fun with what they do. hell the two best english teachers i've ever met both completely ignored the cirriculum [teaching to the standardised test I.E. the TAKS test for texans] and instead taught our classes about some of the finest works of literature in history.

remember when school was about learning new and interesting things about the world around you? not anymore

Total facepalm.

Personally what gets me is the gun thing... with some of the nutters in my neighbourhood the idea of them armed makes my trousers sodden and stained.

That and rip up the entire silly constitution and write a non-retarded one.
Why 'facepalm'? All those were jokes- I didn't insert a serious statement in the middle of a list of jokes.

Sorry, I didn't notice. That sounds a lot like a genuine response from an american that might support that argument. Their responses are generally that laughable.

The majority of certain minority populations stop using racism as tool to get ahead. The past does not effect you today.
Better ideas being used in movies.
Good music making the airwaves.
Getting rid of pop radio.
Bringing fencing to the American mainstream of sports. No more of this wannabee alpha male shit.

I'll say one thing, abolish the Two Party system since it divides the country and sends what could be an honest debate into glittery eyed fanboyism for whatever party you affiliate yourself with.
So a ONE PARTY SYSTEM would be the solution?

What do you call a democracy that's run by only one party? XD

OT:

I don't really care what americans change about their own country. What I wanna see changed is the american government pulling out all their military forces from other countries and just keep to themselves for a few decades rather than butting in where they don't belong...

Oh joy non-americans making stupid American bashing threads.

How about this. Everyone who the USA has given aid to, please pay it back.

Or how about this, worry about your own damn country.

Get rid of their nukes so that they can use that money and feed the world.

It's not the stupid American thing, it's the fact that America has the power to alter the world for the better and fails to do so. Subsequently, we also seem to be sharing your problems.

A more proper strategy would be, stop spending the yearly budget on the military and take all that money and feed and clothe the poor.

You already have the right to bear arms, no country is going to try invading you because it would be impossible to pacify a population where pretty much everyone is packing heat.

Quite simply, America doesn't really need a military force. All that money being spent on stealth bombers, Nimitz class carriers, nukes, firerarms humvees etc. etc. is money wasted...

Nuclear weapons cost millions upon millions of dollars per year and is why the US military budget is so much higher then the rest of the worlds. The maintain the nukes is costing everyone big time. That money can actually be used to keep everyone in poverty stricken countries above the $1 a day line. I know there is also another hundred problems with doing that, but it's the theory I'm just saying. America could attempt to save millions with the money they would utilize from disarming those weapons that sit all day in their silos.

This man also has the right idea:

This, even in elementary school there was divisions between the classmates, and it was everyone parroting what their stupid parents said. I half expected kids to get beat up for being a democrat. in a blindly republican county.

Oh yeah the two parties need to die. Seriously we can't just have two black and white parties. There has to be more shades of gray in between.

That's something that bothers me, we think "oh he's a republican he can only think these things" My dad was a republican and wouldn't blindly follow them, he would really think about it for a while, and then decide his candidate.

It would be nice if the country would wake up and realise god is make believe and abandon religion in favor of reason and humanism.

And then they could invent a sustainable power-source and cure all of the world's diseases. Get on to it, you lazy yanks.

Firstly, no. Religion has helped many people. Believing in something is not a bad thing. There has been few people I know of that take their religion in vain and with spite, everyone religious I know is lovely and kind.

As for the last paragraph, science fiction mate. Why not work with what we got, and in that case, it's the entire worlds problem, not America.

Non American here, few things.

1) Metric system. Nuff said
2) Football uses feet, American Football uses hands and is similar to rugby, therefore American Rugby.
3) World Series means the whole world not just the US, incidentally, I think the Japanese won one of the baseball world series?
4) the US owe China a lot of money. Please pay it back, it's getting scary.
5) Bad foreign languages in Hollywood, where even the Chinese can't speak Mandarin and people speaking Cantonese and Mandarin can communicate without any problems
I'm glad to see that you focused on the important details of what makes America terrible. [/sarcastic]

I say that we change the corrupt government. I'm not saying that every elected official is corrupt, but the majority are.

I agree with you on the point that a "winner takes all" system will most likely turn into a 2 party system. Here in the Netherlands the possibility of one party gaining a true majority is almost zero, they will almost always have to cooperate with one or more parties to get a working government. Even the party that gets the most seats in congress isn't guaranteed to be in the government if they can't get any other parties to agree to work with them.

Our current government is made up of 3 parties, the CDA (Christian Democrats), PVDA (Social Democrats) and CU (Christian Union) being the largest, second largest and 6th parties. The smaller party was needed to get the required majority in parliament, and a coalition with any of the larger parties (3-5th place) was deemed impossible due to differences of policies.
That's still my question, though. Three smaller groups formed together in order to create a coalition and win control of parliament. If that union remains, eventually those elements within the coalition will be "interest groups" part of the "party". I see the line as fuzzy, honestly. We think of America as having "two parties" while ignoring the plethora (and I do mean overabundance) of influencing parties within the big tent of "Democrat" and "Republican".

The UK has 3, Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrats, with power switching around every so often, there's also about 20 minor parties that hold the odd bit of power (like the green party or the BNP). It all works out well and we function as a democracy.
I accept the existence of different parties (with a small p), but I question the existence of three major "Parties" (big p) in any country. Even in England, the reality of the situation is the formation of ruling coalitions of at least fairly like-minded individuals. It's more fluid, which can be both good and bad, but from what I've seen it works like this:

One party gains power in an election, the out parties then rally together to form a coalition government and topple the previous regime. The new regime becomes part and parcel of the major party that led it, before itself falling to another coalitional government. Japan is experiencing the same thing with the fall of the LDP

I want us to build a dome around the country and not let any people or any types of aid, media, or anything in or out, so people will stop criticizing our policies and leaders. Especially people who do not live here. I would make it so people knew absolutely nothing about us, therefore they could form no opinions, good or bad, but especially uninformed.

I'm sick of this type of discussion, I don't care what country it is about. It all turns into flaming Bush and Republicans and stereotyping. Just wait.

Too late. (Yes, I know you are joking, but still.)

Or, alternatively, report the thread to have it closed.
