My dad : Why don't you go out drinking with your mates or something thats what most people your age do!
Me : Most being the key word there.

Besides where i live is full of arseholes and sluts yeah and going to a club where most of them hang out sounds like a lot of fucking fun...

"Why dont you turn that darn thing off and go play outside? It's nice out!"

Geez Mom, I was just outside playing for 6 hours! You were there! I was in the pool and then I played basketball with my friends! It's 7:00 PM and its dark! Just leave me alone!

my dad would tell me that I'm addicted. (He would say this while he was sitting in front of the TV all weekend long.)

Lots of these.

Few years ago, while looking in the BG2 inventory: "You're a major now and you're still playing with dolls"
While playing Counterstrike: "Why do you only play that game with the shooting"
While playing Heavy Metal FAKK 2: "Is this porn?"

As a side-effect i've started to have homicidal thoughts whenever she glances at the screen. I growl when she makes a comment or starts laughing. But usually, i pause and alt-tab whenever she's in the room, and pretend like i'm not doing anything, patiently wait for her to leave.
Yes, she's a royal pain.
I do the same thing. My mother usually notices, though. :(

OT:My mother used to think if I bought anything besides JRPGs and anything else Japanese, I would become homicidal. It was humorous for a time, especially since I used to play pretend shooters( with loads of bullet-time) with my friends in real life and my cousin would die...a lot.

My 360 is set up in my room so my parents barely see me playing, my mom thinks my Saints Row 2 character has bad fashion sense though. Seriously she never comments on the violence only "You're character needs to re-think his outfit".

*Playing Madden '05 and dad walks in*

"Wow, that's a video game? I thought you were watching football on TV!"

The last game my dad played was 15 years prior. I don't think my parents have watched me play any games other than that which weren't on the NES or Genesis.

THEY don't say anything, but my neighbor goes on and on about how video games are the devil, and that they are ruining our kids and making them violent. My response: "You should blame all that on bad parenting. I know kids who've never played a game in their life, and they're constantly doing drugs." She then says nothing about how I know the other people and just says "The only thing parents are doing bad is buying their children video games."

Edit: My dad usually joins and plays Battlefield 2 with me when I'm at his house, but other than that I get no response when I game.

My mom absolutely HAAAAATES video games. Right now, I haven't played my own PS2 or PS3 (or any of the platforms I own, for that matter) for 6 months due to her aberration of it. Instead, I've been living off of my PSP and DS because she can't really monitor my playing of it. It's actually really frustrating. She'll get mad and take the systems away, which results in her losing some of my equipment. I had really nice logitech wireless controllers for the PS2 and she lost the piece that actually plugs into the console. She's also lost my memory card for it, that had 100's of hours on it, and gameplay that I was only halfway through.

IT'S VERY VERY FRUSTRATING. I'm moving out in Sept. to go to college, and very much looking forward to being able to play all these games that I have heard about, played at other's houses, or wanted so bad I've almost cried. Ugh. For now I'll just play Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and dream of the day when I can sit down and finish going through Assassin's Creed, Fallout 3, and all the other wonderful nuggets of beauty I own.

[On a side note: I'm not a bad kid. In the slightest. I'm a leader in my church, take 3 AP courses and have above B's in all, manage 2 jobs, and got accepted to the college of my choosing. She just hates video games.]

So basically, when I'm seen playing it, it's always something bad about how crappy and pointless it is and how I'm filling my head with gore and disgustingness.

Ah, that's why I enjoy being an adult. I don't hear lines like that from my parents. Oh wait, now I have a job, responsibilities, a wife to keep happy (ah, something I'm good at), a daughter to take care of and play with, forum threads to post on, vacant staring to do, friendships to maintain, etc, etc, etc...now, I have little time to game...oh, and because I recently moved to FL (my wife got homesick), I now live with the in-laws who understand that my interests differ from theirs (working on cars, being rednecks, etc) so they normally bother me about it. Though my sis in law is studying psych and likes to argue that video games = violence.

You know, I've never gotten those kind of comments from my parents. Nowadays they would just look like hypocrites, since they both play WoW, and my mother has an 80 and a 70something, and my father has a 70something (they play the 70s together). My father has come in and watched before, and we occasionally play some co-op (including alot of Gears of War 2 Co-Op). My mother doesn't really like the kinds of games I do, but we both found me running down the sidewalk carrying a car in Prototype to be funny for the same reason: Thwap thawp thawp (the sound of people getting hit with a car being run down a sidewalk).
you sir have like the coolest fucking parents ever.

my dad used to TRY to play a bit of socom online...failed miserably

my mom refuses to touch them

anytime something happens ever that involves electronics they go "what happened? fix it! you probably broke the power playing those games!"

my mom will walk by always giving a smartass comment "oh that B- is getting better with those games huh? go study."

My mom doesn't understand why I play retro games. She essentially judges a game by how often I press a button and the graphics.

So she'd basically be someone who plays MW2 all day if she was a gamer. Maybe Crysis if we didn't have a shitty computer.

"Why don't you go out and do what normal kids do..."

"Sure! Just need the local drug dealer, a sleazy girl to have unprotected and underage sex with, and a knife I can use to threaten and rob people! That sounds great. Oh, and I'll need your credit cards to get the money for all that, 'kay?"

"... nevermind."
