My parents are pretty much fine with my gaming. In fact, I've managed to get my mom to play some games with me now too. She's really into Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection and we are actually pretty evenly matched.

The only thing that I can think of is when me and my sister, were talking about Pokemon.

Me: Oh, would you be able to breed a for me? I would prefer it to be first evolution, so I can get more of them in my Pokedex. I'll trade you .

Grandmother: I have no idea what either of you are talking about.

Mom: Me neither.

I just random noises of disapproval. And she hinted I was fat because I don't play on the streets. :p

Watching the ending to FFX, all I got was, "Why has she got one green eye and on blue eye? I once dated a man with one blue, on green eye. David Bowie has two different colour eyes. Apparently it's because his parents were cousins. Oh, I don't know... why did she run through him? is he invisible? Is he dead? Is he real? That's guy, right? Why are you crying? Stop crying you pussy, it's a video game. Is that is? That's all? I see..."

Seriously.

Plumbers make really good money I'm surprised your mom said that. My parents are fine with my gaming mostly because I have friends and hang out with them fairly often. She also takes away both the consoles I bought if my grades get too bad so she can't ***** at me about that either.

My parents dont complain usually. Because they realise on a weekday after school there isnt really much to do besides playing videogames or watching tv.

My dad doesn't usually say anything about it, but my mom...

Starting when I was 16 or 17, if I did anything in my leisure time, she gave me a speech about how it was "time to put away childish things" She get's worse about it when it's video games, but it could be TV, a movie, basically anything short of doing "something productive," whatever that means, for 24 hours a day. I value my leisure time, it's (granted, a small) part of why I'm going to college to be a teacher now, instead of, say, a surgeon. What's worse is she seems to honestly believe that as a college student, I shouldn't have any leisure time, and that I won't when I start my junior year in the fall. I'm moving into a dorm then, and frankly, I'm looking forward to the freedom.

My parents let me be most of the time. It was only when they knew I had homework or revision to do that they'd say, surprisingly enough, "Do your homework," or, "Have you done your homework yet?" The answer to which was always no, but I invariably replied yes.

My dad and brother both play games with me, and my mom's pretty good about it, though sometimes she'll just demand that I get off for no reason. Maybe it has something to do with how I've been cheering on brain ventilation since I was three.

Forgot to mention the "do something more important" trump card. If you somehow argue against a parent's other points they will whip this out and you will look like a procrastinating slob. not hating on my parents or anything but damn, nothing like video game ignorance to ruin my day.

Edited the title because I'm sure most of you are past this stage in your lives.
I really should be, but I get this nuts all the time and I'm in college. Not too bad in the summer mind, which is good because living in the middle of nowhere is fucking boring!
When I had to repeat a year in college, my parents blamed games and banned me from them. -.-

Uh...
"How do you know where to go?"
"How do you do this without getting nauseous?"
[sarcastic] "Lovely." (with the violent ones)
(during GOW3) "Wow. He's really angry, huh?"
(prototype) "Oh yeah, that's realistic."
(and my dad's personal favorite) "SHOOT HIM! SHOOT HIM! SHOOT HIM! HE'S RIGHT THERE! WATCH OUT! YOU'RE MISSING! SHOOT HIM! NOW NOW NOW! JUST SHOOT HIM!"

My parents learned a few years ago to either accept my pastime and not comment on it, or to give up trying to stop me. If I ever get any sass from them it's "that doesn't look like studying" to which I can reply that it technically is given I'm studying games design and production. Unfortunately my mum's smart enough to know that my vocation of choice does not involve sitting playing games all day, so my comeback often backfires.

Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about. I wake up on the weekend, go buy some milk because I see we're out, do some vacuuming, do the laundry. By now it's afternoon, and I pop in a video game to play. My mom wakes up and sees me playing,
"are you just going to play all day?" Damn, never fails.

Maybe I'm a just a bad son but I always try to act friendly to her and try to talk to her about her interests.
"Man, this commercial never ends, right mom?"
"Your getting impatient, must be those video games. They're ruining you."
"..."

But sometimes she's awesome, when I'm playing a shooting game with blood, she would always say "why do you have to play this violent game? Play that sonic fellow, I like him!" I pop it in and play (sonic UGC) "remember when I bought the game system for you? You were so happy, and I had to beat the level for you?" bonding moment feels good man.

I hope you all got the "why don't you play outside and make new friends" line fed to you. you may try to explain that you're happy just playing games and you have enough friends, but they remain convinced that your play video games because you are sad and it affected your 'friend-getting' abilities. After all, every parent wants to see their kid be super popular and being the best in every sport.
i have had similar comments made, but on the subject of going outside i easily refuted that with "Wait, when did we get neighbors?"

Two things come to mind:
Dad: Turn that shit off!
And, when I was younger, my dad would tell me I could never shoot someone in a game unless they shot me first. So there I was, trying to beat Wolfenstein 3D while getting shot by everyone when my dad walks in:
"Are you only shooting those who shoot you?"
"Yes dad. It's way harder." (I think that was his motivation. Make it so hard that I'd stop)
"Wait, are those guys Nazis?"
"Yup."
"Don't just sit there, then! Shoot those guys!"
True story.
Awesome.

Dad: Let me try.

He does this with pretty much any game I get, tries to get through one level of campaign, and always ends up with me being the back-seat gamer, I.E. "No, you have to take out the sniper over there."

Without fail, he ends up dying comically. Due to experience, I've learned to find invincibility cheats for every single game I buy that may hold my dad's interest.

*goes back to run down a row of people in GTAIII*
"Got'em".

My parents have never really seen it as an issue. They say "better than out on the streets" Thats because me and my brother started gaming like when we were 4 and just progressed from there.

My mum has taken quite an interest in my comp matches in ETQW for clanbase and would watch them, cheer when we won and be sad when we lost which was always cool.

My mum has never gamed, hell she is in her 50's but the other day I got her to try the sniping part of Blackout on COD4.

Me: ok you just aim for the head and shoot him
Her: DIE DIE DIE
me: ok mum can I have the mouse and keyboard back...
Her: NO no i want to shoot more bad guys.

Lol cracked me up...

N64: "These games are childish"
PS3: "These games are nauseating with all the turning, and they're incredibly violent."
PC: "Why are you pressing so many buttons on the keyboard and doing it at a fast speed?"

(Not in those exact words though)

My mum's convinced that it somehow inhibits mental capacity, or in her terms, "it's turning my brain into jelly (jello)!"
