to be truthful, people can not survive without war. it has even been beneficial in some instances.

I hope it hasn't already been said, but the Second World War actually ended the great depression. At least I'm pretty sure it did.

World peace can never be truly attainable, someone's always gonna want to kill someone else.

But if we took some time off from all the war, and we advanced to the flying cars and robots stage... then we could resume war.

But it would be like a bizillion times more awesome!

To be blunt, we don't need the B-2 bomber now. We don't need many of our military technologies. The most likely immediate adversaries of the world's superpowers are not each other, at least in the military theater. The adversaries the United States deals with could either be wiped flat with existing weapons or demand development on an entirely different scale than what we're used to, one that relies far more on innovative thinking than brute force and sheer financial wherewithal.

But war is profitable. We're going to keep putting Cold War-era-level outlays into military spending as long as there's companies and individuals who can turn a profit by our doing so. Heaven forefend we put people out of work in this economy, simply because the product they produce is worse than useless.

There can be no peace without war. There will always be communists and terrorists in the world that are hellbent on messing up the world. There are 2 options:

1) Keep the 'world peace' idea, let them do what they want, and watch the world destroy itself on CNN.

or

2) Stop them and restore order.

Sure, war is ugly, but it is necessary. World peace is a great idea, but it is unachievable. The whole, "War is wrong, let's all like each other" stance is impossible. People will always disagree with each other and there will always be differences and tension amongst our fellow human beings. It is inevitable.
