If you've played Demon's Souls, these moments make up about 90% of the experience.

Specifically, though? Burned to death in Boletaria on the bridge by Mr. Fire-breathing dragon from Hell.
ugh...demon souls.....That game and i have an understanding, I don't play it,and it doesn't fuck me over.
Seriously, i've beaten the main story twice but there is still one part i cant beat. The army of dead babies in the swamp. Every time i try i just think "this is gonna suck balls".

Chrono Trigger, which I started playing only recently.

Lucca: "Hey Chrono! Try my new teleporter!"

Me: "OH GOD! No! NO! Not a teleporter! Oh great, I'm gonna step on this thing, it's gonna send me straight to ZEN, there'll be headcrabs all over the damn place and I'm gonna spend the WHOLE DAMN GAME trying to clean them up!"

Chrono: *steps in* *teleports successfully*

Me: "Hot damn! No headcrabs!"

Marle: *steps in* "Weeeeeeeee--heywait--" *ZAP!*

Me: "... what was that?"

Marle: "Ohcrap! Now I'm thinking with portaaaaaaaaals--*bing*"

Me: "... Headcrabs."

*goes in after her, finds self in the past*

Me: "Well, this place doesn't look so ba--AGH! *gets surrounded by blue goblins* GARLIC JUNIOR! No! Now I've got to put up with a whole SAGA of filler before I can deal with the FRIGGING HEAD-CRABS!"

... And so on.

Yeah, this game just keeps TRAUMATIZING me every time I pick up the DS. By the time I encounter the GIANT SPACE-FLEA known as Lavos I'm sure I'm going to have night-terrors for weeks.
You, sir, need to see a psychiatrist! Chrono Trigger came out before Half-Life or Portal. It was around the same time as DBZ, though. In fact, Akira Toriyama, the creator of DBZ, did the character design for the game. That's beside the point, though. The point is, judging by your post, it's your own fault for being traumatized by Chrono Trigger. Who else would think of headcrabs while playing a Square RPG? This is the first time I've ever heard of someone being traumatized by Chrono Trigger. I'm not trying to insult you or anything. It's just weird to me that someone would freak out at playing one of the most beloved RPGs of all time.

By the way, I think Chrono Trigger is awesome. Your post reminded me of Unskippable, which is also awesome
^^; I was trying to be funny. I know it came out a LOOOONG time ago and predates Half-Life by several years, but I never had an SNES growing up so this is the first I'm playing it, and I made a few funny observations. It is, in fact, a most awesome game, and I'm wondering what blithering idiot at Square decided it wouldn't be worth it to do more games in this style rather than the one they keep using for the Final Fantasy games.
I did get a laugh out of your post, so congratulations on being funny! You succeeded! I actually thought you were trying to make the game suck in your mind. Now I feel stupid! Like I said, your post reminded me of Unskippable. If you can do stuff like that with a good game, just imagine how much less painful you can make a bad game! Graham and Paul would be proud if they saw this!

For me, it was the Shadow Temple in Zelda: Ocarina of Time. That was pretty close to what I might call my first "survival horror" experience in a video game. I was like, 11 years old at the time, and I wasn't expecting a lot of what happened in that dungeon. I jumped out of my seat every time an enemy popped out of a fake wall, or whenever one of those hand monsters (Wallmasters, I believe they were called) grabbed me. What sucked about the hands was that not only did they scare the crap out of me, they took me outside the friggen' dungeon! If I didn't have the Lens of Truth in that dungeon, I never would have made it through. The Shadow Temple doesn't have the same effect on me anymore, but the first time I played through Ocarina of Time, it really got to me. Until I got through that dungeon, I was always thinking, "This is gonna suck," every time I turned on the N64 to play. At the time, it really messed with my head!

Final Fantasy VI, which I am currently playing. I had a "This is going to suck" moment earlier today;

Walking around the Floating Continent, party of Edgar, Celes, Terra and Shadow. The random encounters here are hard enough. My party's level average is 27. Beating my way through, almost going down, walking along and then there is a monster sprite in the middle of the walkway. "Oh, a boss..." I say to myself.

5 seconds later, I am immediately regretting my cockyness when Ultima (Atma) Weapon appears on my screen.

I manage to defeat him, but then after walking up the stairs he was defending, Emperor Gestshal and his Court Mage, Kefka are stood next to the Warring Triad. 3 statues aligned perfectly together, with the warning "Do not Disturb" written all over them. So what does Kefka do? He moves them out of alignment. And this isn't just some "Oh dear, now we have to set them back up again" this is a "oh dear, the world is now destroyed".

I also remember a time when I was playing Metal Gear Solid 2 on Hard difficulty and got to the fight with 20 Metal Gear RAY's and finding out I had NO Rations. 3 Rays walk up to me, i'm thinking "Be gentle".

I had to do that fight without getting hit more than once.

Also, when you enter the first room in the Deep Sea Research Center in FFVIII.

A step inside, screen blurs.

"Encounter on the first step... Argh."

Beat the monster, exit battle screen and begin to explore the room by taking a step... And another random encounter.

"Two encounters in a row? How unlucky."

Beat the monster and finally get to explore the room... And when you step forward... Random encounter.

"..."
"...this will take a while."
Watch the reactor light. If it's on, it's monster city. When it's out, you're fine.

For me... Getting through Twilight Princess' Cave of Ordeals with just a few spare hearts left and no potions or fairies, to the last room with three Darknuts.

I won, but damn... hairy fight.

Another section of Final Fantasy VI: Having to protect Banon from Ultros. Ultros had an ability to be able to kill Banon in 1 hit. So after the first failure I decided "I'll make sure Banon is always at max HP". Ultros killed Banon again.

5 attempts later...

Everytime in Half-Life 2 that someone tells you to run ahead or to go ahead and step in some elevator or something...you just KNOW it's gonna break!

Half Life Ep 2..."Go get in the elevator, I'll catch up!"
NO YOU WON'T, ITS GONNA BREAK LIKE LAST TIME SPLITTING US UP FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY.

When there's a cutscene and you see this massive, humongous monster thing/guy come in and you just know that you're gonna have to fight that bad boy.

That's in pretty much every game

Yunalesca's final form in FFX
This, but that entire battle and any battle with Seymour.
Damn Seymour and his refusal to be sent.
Agreed, but more-so whenever you run into the undead guardian wyrm Evrea. The first time was just such bugger. I over stressed about it though, because a few phoenix downs later...

Oh, also every time you start a half life game standing on some variation of a train. All tracks lead to suck in Valve's world.

I thought the last level of Portal was a pretty harsh thing. On the moving platform in a narrow corridor, having to navigate through it and then there is a Cake picture.

"Yay! Cake! The end!"

Turn the corner, a Large pit of fire

"Oh, this is going to suck"

Mercs 1 came over a hill with a fully loaded attack heli only to find that I'd mistakenly found myself in the main AA gun factory in North Korea (or at least it felt that way)

I'm not gonna say exactly what happened by the result explosion actually glitch-blew me off the map. Literally.

edit: also the 1000 heartless battle you gotta do by yourself in KH2. I was about to crap my pants until I figured out that I could kill the heartless at 15 a swing. Then it turned out to be grief-fest!
I had known it was going to have the 1k heartless battle long before the game came out and I had so much hopes cause the picture advertising it had behemoths and varied other baddies, so when it became obvious the battle was coming up was all jittery with excitement.

Then started the battle and after finding out it was pretty much impossible to die and/or lose the battle, wasn't happy.
Well I didn't until I actually got to that point, so maybe it was awesome to me because I wasn't expecting more. Anyways, it was one of those stress relief moments in a game, where you can get all that rage from I-don't-know-what out by kicking the buts of 1,000 true baddies. The only other game where I got that amount of kills on a one person level was in Dynasty Warriors, and it took way longer to do that

I first fought the zombie police runners in Mirror's Edge I just knew they were going to being an complete pain in my ass.
"Zombie Police Runners"?

And they are the most fun to work with, because if you actually fight them,

YOU

ARE

DOING

IT

AAAALLLLLLL

WRONG!

You're meant to RUN AWAY from them.
I just KO a SWAT guy took his machine gun and shot them
Again, you're doing it wrong. It's much easier and more fun to go on the 30 second chases that the game intends.
