So I like to think I play games pretty well. I can get through some L4D missions on Expert, head-shot people from across the map, beat Ninja Gaiden I & II, got all the star in Spec Ops, and other stuff that seems pretty challanging. The only games that kick me in the head are fighting games, so I stay away from them.

Then I played Lego Batman. I have never needed to look up what to do next so many times for a game, and that includes every Water Temple. I constantly find myself running around in a circle, confused. What makes it even worse is that I know this is supposed to be for kids, and I'm positive they don't have this much trouble. I thought this would be a quick, fun way to catch up and pass my friend on number of Achievements, but it's turning into a real head ache.

So, has anyone else ever sat down to play a game you thought would be a piece of cake and ended up banging your head against the wall? Any of them as, um...embarrassing as mine?

The Hercules Action Game is a lot harder than I remember. Not hard, but harder than I thought it was.

Everytime I start up any of the old Megamans (1-8), or the new Retro ones (9-10)...

I know the Rock, Paper, Scissors style weaknesses for bosses. I know that if done right it's really easy, and 90% of it is just trial and error getting through stages (MOST of which you will figure out the Trial before the Error even occurs).

..Doesn't stop me from never beating any of them.

Start getting into Megaman X, or any one where you can Charge your gun and I'm alright though.

Legend of Zelda and the Phantom Hourglass. That game has some of the most obscure solutions to puzzles I have ever seen.

Mickey Mouse had a game on the NES called Mickey's Mousecapades, that I could breeze through as a kid, and now... I dunno... it's just brutally tough and infuriating.

I literally have to resort to a walkthrough for every horror game I've played... but I can complete most adventure games fine. I think that says more about the puzzles in horror games however...

"Close your DS" pissed me off to no end. I did everything I Could think of, then closed my DS because I had to do something and came back and it was solved. I almost threw the fucking thing at the wall. It's such a simple but stupid puzzle.
I did that too, but I closed it to look at a FAQ because by that point, the "puzzle" wasn't worth the kudos for completing it with my own brain. I almost NEVER use FAQs, and it certainly was funny reading the FAQ and then resuming the game to find that had I not looked at the FAQ, I still would have completed the puzzle.

I'm a pretty good gamer, but I got stumped by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I've been playing for decades, and my ego's pretty swollen. But I got pwned by an Electronic Arts game goddamnit!

haha, this reminds me of the whole 'give an university graduate GCSE work and they'll fail miserably' article I read up else where. Guess same applies to games... we jsut don't think like kids ='(

I had the same problem with Lego Batman, but also the other Lego titles as well.

I recently revisited Beneath a Steel Sky, a game I completed sometime in my pre-teen years, I got completely stuck on the first area and gave up. It's a shape because it's such a good game...

I forgot about this game. I used to play it for hours just swimming around trying to figure out what the hell I was supposed to do.

I had terrible problems with Ocarina of Time.

Some of the ways to advance the story were so bloody oblique... how was I meant to know to bomb that lone rolling Goron? Or to go digging up graves at a certain time?

Oddly enough, I found the Water temple fine and actually pretty easy.

You're concerned about catching up to your friends in achievements? I think that says it all right there.
