But yeah, maybe pop music has a tendency to be all pretty similar. Even more similar than other genres of music, but if people who enjoy pop don't mind then there is nothing wrong with it. Music is meant to do something for the listener, so long as it does then its completed its goal.
This too. Everything is just versions of Pachelbel in D

Pop music is getting bland and lazy. We have known this forever.

Max martin writes for em both, of course they sound the same xD

John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote all the Beatles songs, but they didn't sound all the same.

Trent Reznor writes all the soundtracks to many David Fincher films, but they don't all sound the same.

Dr. Dre produces a lot of rap songs, but not all of the beats sound the same.

Damn, Max Martin must really suck.

Oh, the similarities between these songs are not the problem... The problem is both lyrics are rubbish, the artists not very talented and the "beat" makes me want to strangle kittens. And I REALLY love kittens...

And seeing as "pop" music is "popular" music, it'll be good again once average Joe gets his ears on straight and can see crap for what it is... Crap...
I totally agree. I mostlly get annoyed by cheap or totally worthless lyrics and the thing is that todays both pop music and most RnB/hip-hop have them. And further more the endless beats and predictable bars in the songs don't make it better. I just can't stand it when all lyrics contains the words "homie", "hoes", "weed," "in da hood" and "da club" and unfortunately pop and rap often does.

I don't hate pop music... I don't listen to it but as long as it keeps the stupid demographic preoccupied and stays away from me it's fine...

My real problem is when pop stars try to compare themselves to real artists and try to pretend there shallow 3 minutes of repetitive bullshit has some sort of artistic merit...

I want you to die, die horribly for that statement!

Music isn't stagnating,it's just the easily-pleased majority of the word that makes it look like that.

Although everyone has a different view on music,i like to view music as an art.
And overused tunes and under-talented singers make music just as good as i can paint the Mona Lisa.

-I hope i didn't offend anyone.-

Hey, let's play a game! How many other songs can you come up with that use this chord progression, even if it's not for the whole song?

I'll go first: Weezer, "Pork and Beans," chorus. Bonus points for irony; it's a song about refusing to conform to mainstream expectations.

EDIT: Found another one - Caramelldansen. If you have to ask what that is, spend more time on the Internet.

EDIT AGAIN: And the chorus (bridge?) from Relient K's "In Love with the '80s" fits if you do it double-time.

And the kind of people who think the Mona Lisa is "great art" are exactly the kind of people you're talking about. The kind of people who probably can't even name any other famous work of art, for that matter.

That is one of the funniest things I have heard today, and I just watched stand up comedy on youtube for an hour...

So what. You could do the same thing with any 12-bar blues from the 30s or any rock or doo-wop from the 1950s.
12 bar and doo-wop were specifically designed to let people who have never played/sang together have a common ground and be able to jam. This is blatant cookie-cutter bullshit at its worst.

What I hate the most is that somehow Kesha feels she knows how P Diddy feels in the morning. That's just presumptuous.
Hey, maybe Kesha and Katy Perry want to jam together! Ever thought of THAT?!
Nah, just kidding, but really, music has really taken a turn for the worst in the last few years

You know, I almost actually thought it was a decent video, that is, until I saw you're comment on youtube:

My videos highlight the truth. And the truth is that the world is bad.
No. Just no. Absolutely no.

I'm ashamed to say I kind of found that mix catchy. Then again, being constantly exposed to it at school might be a factor...

A lot of people are being very quick to condem pop singers like Katy Perry and Kesha for writing lyrics about sex and drugs and alcohol.
But-? What exactly were rock stars singing about in the 60s and 70s? W
hat kind of stuff do the fucking Rolling Stones sing about?
Are you aware of the term Sex Drugs and Rock n Roll?

Don't be such grasping cun- ... hypocrits.

If Kesha does it she's a vacuous and self absorbed whore, if Mick Jager does it he's a fucking rock God? You really can't criticise them for their song's lyrical content and subject matter, because sop many bands write about the same shit and get away with it.

There is good pop music and bad pop music, just like there is good and bad music of any genre.

It happens alot. You can even take two Genre's of music that arent even close and they'll steal something from them.
I got a perfect example.

The first five seconds of this song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KS3h-2mC23E

Now on this song go to 2:40

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R20f-TPKjzc

It's the same thing. And the second song came out in the 60's or 70's and the first song came out a few years ago.

The music industry is running out of truly talented people who can sing AND write songs, so they just either do 'cover' songs or they make up crappy songs stealing other peoples work.
Its called sampling, tons of great artists have done it. Listen to 'Taurus' by Spirit which was released in 1968. Around that time there was a little band known as Led Zeppelin opening for them during their American tour. Three years later Led Zeppelin released this equally little song known as 'Stairway to Heaven.' The opening melody sounds almost identical to 'Taurus.' Listen to them both and tell me which is a better song. Of course I'm not saying the Pussycat Dolls even come close to ELO, I'm just saying that that isn't a sign the music industry is failing.
