It was bizarre, there was an influx over the last week or two of random, non-discussion threads, but it seems like this week's doing better. I totally agree with the 100 post minimum, encourages people to look at what's acceptable to post as a discussion topic and what isn't.

I'm all for the minimum post count issue - also, anyone trying to spam in order to be able to make troll threads could be rooted out beforehand.

I haven't been here long, but the amount of "Do you like America", "2012: OMGZ!1! End of teh world!", "Do you like Halo?" threads are driving me INSANE.

I think this is the sentiment shared by most of the longer-standing users. Including me.

I'm not sure whats worse. Non-discussion topics, or people who feel its their right, nay, DUTY to post the second a topic comes out without giving it any real thought or even answering the OP. Like someone posts,

Person 12:10pm- "I enjoy bananas! Post some of your favourite recipes or foods that use bananas! Do you like bananananasa?! DISCUSSESES!"

Local Forum Nob 12:11pm - "Thats not how you spell 'bananas'. "

Whats the point? That doesnt generate discussion, nor does it answer the OP.

Then it would turn into roosterteeth where you either post on something around 500 different video's or just pay $10. Its the reason I cant post threds on roosterteeth.

I'm sorry, do I look like forum staff to you? Those rules are just a suggestion, and I didn't even say it was a good one. What do you expect me to 'impose'?
You are not the creator of this thread, and therefore I was not addressing you.

It happens.
More people come in, chances are plenty of them don't want to read the rules about the site.
Which is why I had that idea of a quiz about the forum guidelines.
After you pass it, you get a shiny badge, and are allowed to make topics.
Of course, the tech side of that is probably a magnificent pain in the ass to do.
Until then, I just ignore the errors, gently try to correct them, and wait for a banhammer to drop when it's needed.
I've thought about this too, it wouldn't be too hard, they do quizzes on here all the time. I think there's one going on about videogame jobs or something right now. Not even make it hard or anything, mostly common sense questions with a few thrown in to make sure they've read the guidelines.
It would not be hard to make, true.
But again, the tech side I can see being a bit of a pain.
See below for further elaboration.

I like this idea, as theres no excuse for people not knowing the rules. I doubt it would be too difficult to make and could be joined in with the signing up process.
PS:Your avatar is strangly hypnotic.
Exactly my thoughts, but I think it might work better if the new poster had some kind of experience within the community first.
And then they could take the quiz, which would unlock the new topic ability.
Forum RPs just got real, bitches.

I agree the mods should tighten up this ship, we're not being whipped harder. Don't judge a new guy right off the bat, there's a difference between a newbie and a noob.

I'm fine with this approach, but there is only one thing that gets to me. When a poster(new or old) posts multiple threads with very little discussion all in the same day. It's just annoying. I wouldn't mind a thread limit per day. It really isn't necessary though, it's just a pet peeve.

That definely sounds like it would work, but this has got me asking, am I one of those annoying new kids?

Yeek. I sleep for four hours and come back to 10 understandable messages putting down my elitism.
Beginning to reconsider my message. Although opinion seems divided quite neatly.

The idea of a minimum post count for creating threads would probably work, but as someone already said, it could cause random posts so people can get their post count up.

But remember that we all have to start off somewhere...

hehe, on these threads I feel like a cool kid having "Gone Gonzo."

Any who, I think the only problem with that is that we're not exactly perfect. Even ones with a great post count sometimes make poor thread choices.

I think this would be great to block trolls though. Seems fairly sound to me.

Yeah, it's going back and forth really, there will always be waves of new members bringing down the literacy rate. I just deal with it and try not to get suspended for insulting them.
