I didn't think wireless controllers would work at all. Not sure why. I guess I figured that there'd be a lot of interference with the signal between controller and console. Because I'm a bit dense. (Feel free to replace the word "bit" with "very" or any synonym of the sort).
I always said stuff about how you would have to keep buying new AA batteries, or how there'd be interference, and how rumble, something I practically grew up on (Star Fox 64), would be generally disabled for the sake of increasing battery life. I pointed to the Wavebird as an example of this, since at the time it was hailed as the best wireless controller ever made.

I also made the argument about how a lack of wires was pointless, since you'd still have to be within close distance of the TV (IE, the same room) to play it,/ and a wire could easily reach that far anyway.

Then the Xbox 360 and its rechargeable battery packs came out, alongside the DualShock 3 which had a built-in rechargeable battery. Both had good range, little interference, the rumble still intact, and you could recharge the battery by simply plugging it into the system.

Pretty much every reason I didn't like wireless controllers was subsequently smashed to the ground.
Although I now use a cord because the (don't know the name) thing that receives signal from my controllers in the 360 is busted (doesn't function consistently) I use to be able to play 360 while on the toilet. The Tv was in the living room at one end of the hall and the toilet was at the opposite end. If I left the door open I could see the TV and the controller had the range to reach. :).
and the award for creepiest place to play Online Multiplayer goes to...!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The only one that comes to mind is Brawl. But that's just me.
I take it you have never played No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Monster Hunter Tri, Tatsunoko versus Capcom, Metroid Prime Trilogy and many other games on the Wii.
It's more than anything a matter of personal taste than any sort of professional critical analysis (because implying that I'm professional in any way would probably cause a meltdown of gamer society [in a bad way]), but No More Heroes was dull with the money grinding and the swordfighting was bipolar, I haven't played No More Heroes 2 yet, the physics in Super Mario Galaxy were sometimes infuriatingly frustrating (probably because I lack coordination), I haven't played Super Mario Galaxy 2, NSMBW is boring alone and teeth-grindingly irritating with friends, I don't plan on buying Monster Hunter Tri because experience with the series has taught me better, and I don't know what Tatsunoko vs Capcom is (assuming its another crossover fighting game).

Metroid Prime: Corruption is the only other game in memory, but I can't recall having fun with it.

I did think that the Steam store would never compare to owning a physical copy but once you DL a couple of games you don't give two flying fucks about the box. I've got a draw full of games from 8 years old to now, and there's no more space for any more.

The only thing I miss is the manuals, which some publishers are scrapping now anyway to not waste paper.

Oh, and it means that the PC platform appears to have lower sales then it actually does - which leads to people like Michael Pachter making dumbarse claims.

PC gaming's dying is it Mikey?

Then how come Steam's user-ship rose by 25% last year and sales were up 3%?

DUAL STICK CONTROLS

When Alien Resurrection came out, most of the reviews slated it's control system for being too precise, too fiddly, for not having enough auto aim in the way Quake/Medal of Honor did. Such a player reliant control system would never catch on.

Just over a year later, two little games called Timesplitters and Halo come out, using the exact same control scheme. I think we know the rest.

as a kid i never thought handhelds would last nor have any good games on it to come

see gameboy - pokemon

see psp - dissidia

those are two examples alone that would get me to buy a ds or a psp
i really really really disagree with the Dissidia part, but other than they, yes, Handhelds are awesome and i never thought they could be.
(Dissidia's just not my sort of game... and it expected me to play it every day... it kept a chart and everything -_-)

The right thumbstick.
Agreed. I can't think of a single PS1 game that used it, but when the following generation of consoles rolled around, it became an almost necessary part of console gaming.
That's a really good point, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Ape Escape
I'm pretty sure Ape Escape 1 WAS the game that made a new type of Playstation controller with thumbsticks. or at least if my poor, childhood memories serve me correctly it was.

My word you must have some good games to want to play them while your downloading some brown data into the porcelain hard drive.

Shooters on Consoles, I really thought that was odd, now look at me, trying to cram KillZone 2 into every comment I make.

Oh, Online Console gaming.

I'm still on the fence about it, but every game has a multiplayer now even if it doesn't need it, and suffers for it.
Going to have to disagree, Mass Effect (1 and 2) doesn't have multiplayer.

OT: Yeah, dual thumbsticks... A lot of people have said that now. They didn't seem nessecary then, but now? They are a basic requirement of any non motion-controlled console game.

There was a lot of interference back in the day...The Wavebird for the Gamecube was terrible for it, it also had lag like crazy.

But yeah, I thought for sure that that would never work lol.

Now it works fine...hold on a minute I got to go charge the batteries so I can keep playing RDR.

ITT: opinions and people arguing because they confuse opinions with facts.

Motion controls (as several other people have said) would be the biggest thing I still don't get despite their apparent popularity; without full force feed-back they just seem odd to me.

Downloading (legally) games and never owning a hard copy; I always used to think this was a bizarre and silly way to act, but now that I have a steam account and a decent internet connection, my views have changed.

Consoles as a Multi-player game system above the PC. I NEVER imagined that happening, not even internet did I see coming for the consoles Oo. And now PC gaming is ruined...

Using DVDs for games on the PC.
Even 1/2 way through the life of the Xbox internal DVD drives for PCs were annoyingly expensive (cost of Blu Ray drives now) and the common belief was that because games could easily be split between multiple CDs for installation (KOTOR2 was on 4 CDs), no publisher would risk losing players by releasing a DVD only game.

Steam
I remember people bitching like crazy about having to go online to register Half Life 2 and install and run another program to play it. Now you can't say a bad thing about Steam without being attacked.

I suddenly feel both extremely geeky and extremely old at the same time. Didn't think it was possible!

hey thats fine, thats your opinion, just saying that game literally burned my psp battery to a crisp before i sold it, and i know alot of people who have it for psp and i know someone who bought a psp/dissidia just because i showed them it and how awesome we thought it was

but hey if its not your kind of game then no big deal, just saying i love final fantasy, and i love a good fighter, and they brought those both together in a very unique and exciting way, which pushed the psp potential i think, so overall personally i think its a game worth getting the damn psp for. (i really wish i could just play it on my ps3 though)

Motion controls, but it turns out if done right they can add a lot to the game.

the wii is the most use home console, because it is friendly, c;ean looking and the cheapest of the consoles. the wii is also the most SOLD console 2nd, 3rd, and 4th hand.
because of the lack of fun games on it XD
by fun i mean re-playable. the wii lacks those. oh, yes, and it has less graphical power then MY G-D D-MN GAMECUBE XD *selfcensors*

You sure about that? The Wii has more graphical power than the gamecube as far as I have seen. And lack of fun games on it, amusing.
No More Heroes, No More Heroes 2, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Brothers Wii, Lit, Wario Land Shake It, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Tatsunoko versus Capcom, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles the Crystal Bearers, Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, Monster Hunter Tri, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Brothers Brawl and don't get me started on virtual console. I have more games for the Wii than any other system I have this generation.

Soooo yeah, it's a pretty kickass console with awesome games.

Yeah, but again, just because they are designed around motion control does not mean they make it work.
So you're telling me the games I mentioned that were designed around motion control don't work?
What about Red Steel?
To be fair, the first one sucked ass, but the second was freakin' awesome.
