I was thinking about getting Team Fortress 2, because it seems like a pretty cool game and stuff, and I have a few questions.

1. Does it have a subscription fee? No
2. Is it easy to get into for beginners? Yes, especially when you have a good server.
3. Do you have any tips for a n00b? Start with straight-forward classes: Soldier, Scout, Pyro (although that one is hard to master, but easy to get into) and save the more specialised classes for later. Also look for proper servers, I have good experience with the UKManDown servers. They're friendly and always help new people get into the game, as long as you don't swear and all that jazz. Also our own Escapist TF2 group is a lot of fun, join that quickly.

Thanks. No problem, if you ever visit the UKMD or Escapist servers, watch out for a little sniper called Flying Dutchman, that'd be me planting high calibre bullets in your cranium.

Yay! I'm thinking off getting TF2 and here's some readymade help!

just wondering, is there any way to play without other people, like against a copmuter?
There are some bots on some servers, but they're far to easy to run rings around.

Any anyway, where's the fun in taking on bots when there's real live humans to kill :)
Just so I have at least a little knowledge of where stuff is and how to play

Come along on Melee Night (Tuesday's 9pm GMT) or grab Me/Danny Ocean or the others on Steam sometime and we'll show you the ropes. :) (Steam profiles linked in our profiles)

When you're playing, you might notice that some people have different weapons than you, such as the sniper class having a bow and arrow. If you can't work out how to equip these weapons, it's probably because you don't have them. You can unlock them by getting achievements.
Other players have different hats; these don't affect the gameplay, they're purely cosmetic, and they are random pickups.

Most noobs that just begin playing say "OMG AHM SO TOTLY GOIN SPAH COZ THAY SAI GENNELMEN LOTZZ!!1!", and they suck as a result. Don't go spy first. Learn the maps and the tactics that other players use. Scouts are good for getting a quick layout of the map, but it's difficult to kill other players, as you have to be very close to do enough damage and they have the least health.

Trust no-one. Shoot your teammates as well; chances are they're spies.

go medic use the medigun and just heal and watch others pick up skills then go on. Demo and spy are the hardest guys to play so work on them privately with friends or something.

Finally got the Orange Box, it's installing now.

Something came up about mah 'steam ticket expiring', entered mah password, and am now waiting for the game to install.

The Half Life 2 is making local cache files.

The game is good, but be forewarned.

That pyro DID come out of nowhere and you DID NOT get that kill because he killed you first.

1, PC, no. Xbox Live, no except for the Live fee. PS3, well why the hell would go buying that one one anyway? Also, no.
2. Yes and no, it's easy to pick up but you will spend your first couple of weeks getting royally butt humped by more experienced players.
3. (PC version) Take your sense of humour and try lots of different servers, if they're genuinely nasty to you for being new, find anothre server, there's thousands.
(Console version) I got nuthin.

New class, btw, an extra treat for you if you decide to start.
For the love of all thats holy that was an unofficial piece of fan art, Valve ain't making it, at least not in the forseeable future.

1.No fee... Just one time to buy it :D
2.Easy to get in
3. Some tips... Pyro is best at Crowd Control. So use that first.

If you're looking for an easy FPS, TF2 is definately it. It's quite easy to get into and the skill ceiling isn't terribly high. If you get really good, or don't like TF2's simplicity, check out Fortress Forever.

1. No subscription.
2. Yes it is really easy to get into, but to ease the transition get on youtube and watch some how-to vids for the different classes and read the map details for some of the common maps from the TF2 wiki.
3. Aside from the aforementioned primer material, do not play as a sniper as your first class unless you really are that good, I collect a huge number of kills as just about every other class because of noob snipers. I suggest playing as a pyro to begin with, it lets you be useful while learning the game.

Oh... My... god. If that's real I'm never going to stop playing that game.
On topic
1. No
2. yes. Every class except pyro takes a bit of trial and error before you get the hang of it, but play a few games with them and you'll get it... unless you're playing pyro, then just flail around like an idiot and you'll kill everything
3. Play pyro.

If you're just starting, play as the soldier. There's no subscription fee, and to whoever said something about the guard dog, it's fake.

TF2 is free
Sometimes the Learning Curve is Steep, but it Really depends on the map you are on and who you are playing with.
Gun points away from your body.

1. Like all Valve games, it is yours after purchase. No subscription fee!
2. Yes, but you'll need to find a class that suits you best; originally I didn't do as well until I got the hang of each class, and now I'm a good sniper.
3. Watch out for Spys, those dirty Spooks are everywhere....
