Really? I think we (I'm from England) are behind the rest of the world and need to step up our act. Corruption is far too common - lies (such as parents lying about their address to get into better schools) are far too common-spread and aren't punished.

We also have a ridiculous celebrity culture - much like America - in which minor celebrities are worshipped and given full support even when they do horrendous things. (Case in point Marlon King - a footballer - was given just 18 months, which means about 8, despite being prosecuted 13 times for a number of offences.

Not to mention the schooling system - in which we either are told it's far too easy and the governments deluding itself, or that exams are harder than ever.

And don't me started on the nanny-culture in which the state panders to those that attacks people and those that are hounded are given no support...like I said - backwards...

Asides from these and a few other hundred complaints - including the weather - it's not that bad here in England...

I hate patriotism. In any damn country. I for one hate this country, mainly because of the people I am surrounded by. Girls with no sense of self respect, talking amongst themselves about who had sex with who on the wednesday. The plethora of thickies that don't know how to react to a film that wasn't made in the 21st Century. They can't take anything for what it is, all they listen to is R&B and complain about why men are such pigs. Their own fault for chasing penis over the weekend at a nightclub. I only feel safe when I'm in my house, or in a friend's house, knowing that outside there will be some yob ready to call his mates to jump and insult me. The only friends I have are like myself, intelligent people who actually want to work and don't question authority. Honestly, there are around 30 people in my year who have determination to work. The other 100 and something are all worried about where their drink, drugs and sex is coming from on a friday night. Seriously, maybe it is just my town, but I hate Britain.

To be more specific, I hate the time I was born. I can't begin to fathom what fuelled culture to end up like this. As soon as I have the money and the skills, I'm moving somewhere better. The weather is dull here, nobody EVER FUCKING SMILES, they all look like they're concealing a weapon and ready to embed it in your soft flesh. Honestly, the only people I am ever greeted politely by are old people, and people that I know. People here are so wrapped up in their own lives that they can't even say thank you when you hold open a door! The whole country seems to be miserable. This little part is an edit, because I forgot to mention our damn governments obsession with health and safety! You would have though that common sense dictated that you wouldn't go and walk towards a pungee pit. Then there is political correctness...basically, I feel the same as Steve Hughes.

If you haven't guessed already...I hate Britain, and I am ashamed to be British. I'd much rather be something remotely interesting like Italian or Dutch. Sorry for the rant, but to be fair, you asked.

British stereotypes? Awesome and fucking scary. I mean, hooligans, best rockers in the world and food that will kill you. That's a fucking hardcore country right there.

Also, since The Beatles come from England, that makes it the most awesome place ever to have existed.

Beatles > Michael Jackson, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Anyone else
You're forgetting that the Beatles didn't get full worldwide recognition until they toured in America.

OT: They're alright, I guess.
Who cares about that? Are you trying to make America look superior to Britain with that argument? That's pretty fucking stupid of you.
I'm just stating that part of your argument is false.
What part is false? I didn't say that The Beatles got worldwide recognition thanks to Britain did I? No. I just said that The Beatles are British, they come from Britain, and therefore Britain is awesome.

Well, most "British Stereotypes" are in fact English stereotypes, if we wanted to incorporate the whole of Britain it'd be:

Haggis eating, Sheep fornicating, tea drinking, boozing, kilt wearing, chip eating, angry, violent, insane, gay hooligans.

Edit: I'm Scottish by the way and the term "British Accent" pisses me off.

Yes and what do they form? Britain! Making us British.

That's like saying we're not European because you're either English, German, French, etc.

You know, I'm in your position as well. Sweden is... it's a fucking copy of America. Everywhere you look, American culture. Girls have so much make-up they look disgusting, and bleached blond hair. Guys walk around in baseball caps and hoodies. Everyone listens to rap (If you can even call it that nowadays, since it's no where near as good as before). I hate it here, I'm even starting to hate my own language. I'm going to America one day, and never coming back. At least in America when I complain on the culture there I'm not complaining on my own culture.

I love being British. It means you can treat your country with a sort of proud hatred and no one will think any different of you. True British patriotism is waking up and cursing about Brown being a moron, the complaining about then weather before commenting on how the buses are always late.

And we don't snap in anger. Only drunken louts snap. A true Brit will retain an air of complete "I don't give a fuck about what you have to say" whether you insult me or say something nice.

Oh I say! Stereotyping myself is marvellous fun!

Eugh! I forgot to mention the make-up!
Again, maybe it is just my town, but the majority of the girls are caked in orange powder that only accentuates the spots that they want to conceal! The sad thing is, the majority males are not interested in the understated girls.

Ah right. To stop people saying "This." or "/Thread" or "QFT", right?

God yeah, I hate that too. I'm still one for the Escapist allowing signatures. Maybe not images, but short text-based sigs would be good.

That way I could link to the PC Clan [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.81348#1081992] thread with every post I make!

Oh god, I hate that. You see this thick layer of make-up with a completely different shade compared to her real skin color. Also, fake tan is something girls love to use. Why can't more girls embrace their natural beauty?

Snatch FTW.

I'm not really sure what the stereotypes of us are. Is it the general "posh, tea drinking, bad teeth, love the queen" stereotype that you mean? 'Cos that one is, of course, almost entirely untrue. Almost. All stereotypes begin with a small amount of truth :p

I lived in Britain for a few years, and my girlfriend's from Lancs. Honestly, I loved it there, great country, great people, and my sense of humour went down very well over there (Americans tend to not think me as funny). The thing is though, British people are also obsessed with utterly retarded "celebrity" culture, soap operas, and worst of all are the fucking tabloids... I've never seen a nation that consumes tabloid newspapers like Britain. Holy hell people, use some goddamn discrimination. Britain is full of people laughing at Americans for believing Fox News, while being misinformed by skewed journalism on their own government every day. Bear in mind, this is the general populace I'm talking about (which, in most countries, I'll be pretty scathing of)
I did really enjoy my years in jolly olde England, but similarly, I don't get the inherent superiority complex that's commonly exhibited.
I don't think patriotism or nationalism are helpful ideas either, or ones that should be encouraged.
