Well, these threads almost always devolve into "[Popular Game I don't like] sucks" posts, so... there's that.

OT: I refuse the premise of OP's post. And not only because they came out of the gate saying they wanted to kill two of my favorite franchises, with a third as a runner-up.

Instead, I will say six franchises I'd like to bring back.

Star Wars Jedi Knight

Star Wars: Republic Commando

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

Star Wars Racer - Lucasarts, why did you have to go completely bananas?

Banjo-Kazooie - Microsoft, why did you have to ruin Rare? (And I will stare very disapprovingly at the next person who brings up Viva Pinata, not least of all because even that has been left out to dry in the past few years.)

Warcraft - I really enjoyed my time with World of Warcraft. I still have a fondness for the World of Warcraft style of doing things, even though I've been burnt out on the competitive aspects of PvP and PvE raiding. But even as somebody who has very little experience with RTS games, Warcraft II and III have still been a blast for me to play, and I'd really like to see that again. Or even just a normal RPG using the WoW... er... world.

F-Zero: Easily my number 1 choice. My favorite racing series of all time, hell, F-Zero GX probably makes it into my top 5 games of all time. I am not buying Nintendo products until they release another F-Zero! I really really really want a Wii U or 3DS for Smash, but I will stay strong! You have my terms Nintendo.

Star Wars: Republic Commando: This game had the best squad mechanics of any shooter. I love this game. I'd take any game with the same squad AI and personalities but I'd especially like a sequel to Republic Commando because CLIFFHANGER ENDING.

Paper Mario: Don't feel as strongly about this one as I do with the other two. I really liked Thousand Year Door and thought the rest were ok. Basically I want a Thousand Year Door 2.

Good Final Fantasys - Bring back proper party and job based Final Fantasy games with proper turn based combat and a story line that makes sense and characters that I don't want to throttle.

The Dawn of War series - Even though I wasn't very impressed with the second game I want still want them to make some more and I want to see what happens to the Blood Ravens

Assassin's Creed - I don't know what the hell assassin's creed is about any more. It stopped making sense at the end of Brotherhood. Ubisoft need to go back to making games about Assassinating people not playing grandmother's footsteps and faffing about

Bury:

The current Final Fantasys - I have disliked Final Fantasy since 12 because they keep taking more and more control away from the player and the stories make less and less sense.

Halo - Masterchief is the most boring character ever and the gameplay hasn't changed since the first game.

All the current "Dark Fantasy Games" - I don't know why all the developers have decided that all RPG's are set in the same time and place with such generic characters they could all actually be taking place next door to each other. The Witcher,Dragon age, Kingdom's of Amular just need to die so that we can start again with actual fantasy.

1) Beyond Good and Evil - Considering that 2 was teased 7 years ago, and in that time we have had 6 Assassin's Creed titles (and that's not counting spin-offs), I think this is a given. Honestly, just the thought of what they could do with that games world given better tech has me giddy with excitement (nevermind the fact that it set itself up for a sequel with a cliffhanger ending that has yet to be resolved.

2) Jet Force Gemini - If done right, this could be excellent. It wouldn't be too big of a risk for Microsoft being a third person shooter and all and it would be a great way to bulk up it's line up. The original was one of the defining games of the N64 for me and I'd love to see it brought back.

3) Jade Empire - My favorite BioWare IP. I'd love to see it brought back.

Bury:

1)God of War - Here's the thing, I love God of War 1-3 but considering how they ended and that it was intended for it to be a trilogy I see any future releases doing more harm than good. They could possibly reboot the series but to continue the series as is as they did in Ascension just seems unnecessary.

2) The inevitable "The Last of Us" sequel

That's it really although I guess you could add any series that has gone through something similar (Metal Gear Solid, Mass Effect and Halo all come to mind but seem to be a bit better received)

My plan is actually to get famous, make a shit load of money, and be the patron of Steambot Chronicles 2.

Discworld - If I had it my way, it would be a TellTale style adventure game this time around, with more focus on dialogue than obtuse item puzzles. Of course, it would still be written by Terry Pratchet and Terry Gilliam, Terry Gilliam would still direct, and Eric Idol would absolutely still be Rincewind. Winning team of ultimate hilarity, right there.

SimAnt - I don't know if anyone else played this, but it was super fun and super hard. A modern version of it with a three-dimensional yard/house to take over, more insects to do battle with, and possibly even multiple species of ants to choose from would be awesome.

Redneck Rampage - I'm not sure if I'd want a modern remake, but something along the lines of Brutal Doom with refined mechanics, harder (and more plentiful) enemies, and new levels would be great to jump into.

Bury:

Yearly EA Sports titles - I wouldn't do away with them, rather stagger them over the years. NHL game one year, NFL game the next, FIFA game the next, so on and so forth, repeating the process after the last title in the lineup is released. Instead of having to buy a new game every year, a DLC with roster updates would be released annually until the next game comes out, each one cost $5 or so. EA still makes money, players save money, EA gets back a bit of consumer respect, players get back a little faith in big publishers.

Honestly, I wouldn't bury anything else. Games I'm not into I simply don't buy.

Psychonauts: Come oooon, we nearly had funding for the second one. This would sell like hotcakes, and it's very well deserved.

Half-Life: I don't even personally consider this series "dead," since I'm still in the camp that believes Valve hasn't given up on it. But I would give them a bunch of money just to get it fucking DONE. Then I would have them release the game the same way Beyonce released her last album--don't promote it or show any trailers, just drop it on the Steam store one day. Just one Tuesday out of the blue BAM, HL3 is on Steam.

Spyro, as someone else above said--go back to the PS1 formula with better graphics. Keep that focus on platforming in well-designed, imaginative worlds with colorful inhabitants. And turn back the clock with Spyro's design a bit, he looks too much like a reject from the cast of How to Train Your Dragon now.

Bury: I wouldn't bury any series, though there are plenty I don't like. I'm in the "if I don't like it I don't have to play it" camp. And getting rid of those series' even for the sake of improving the quality of games out there wouldn't work, because if you get rid of one shitty franchise another will just step up and take its place. There's an obscure quote from a Doctor Who radio play I'd like to use to explain the situation: "We learned long ago that if you kill all the bad ones, the good ones turn bad."

Rez:
Megaman Legends. Just give us an ending capcom. JUST GIVE US AN ENDING. He's still trapped on that moon.

Final Fantasy 7. Yes, I just brought up the two most obvious answers. No prequels, no sequels, no spin offs. Just a straight remake of the original with the original crew. It's time to get the band back together for one last show.

Berserk. I want another berserk game. Made by from software. Seriously, make this a thing.

Kill with fire:
Resident evil. This series is a lifeless husk of its former self, much like the zombies within it. RE 1-4 walked the line between b movie horror and comedy, but the later games tried to play their stupid stories straight. They abandoned the horror. Let it die.

It hurts to say it, but kingdom hearts. The ending to two was perfect. At most the series could pull off one more game before needing to end.

System Shock: I'm sorry but Bioshock's impact will never come close to that System Shock 2 had on me. However a System Shock 3 is unlikely to happen and even if it did, chances are it'd be neutered and "streamlined" for console audiences and just become Bioshock in space. I'd love a true System Shock 3 though.

Half-Life: No need for an explanation.

Doom: I know a Doom 4 is on the way but this is in case Doom 4 ends up being a dull Duke Nukem Forever type shooter. I want a modern re-interpretation of the original two games because I still play them to this day and I'm itching to see how they'd look with ragdoll physics, dynamic lighting etc.

Bury:

Call of Duty: The franchise hasn't offered anything new in years. The series had a negative influence on the FPS genre. Also it'd annoy frat boys and teenagers and that's always good.

Final Fantasy: Recent FF games have been absolutely appalling. They look nice and that's about it.

Sonic the Hedgehog: I just really hate Sonic.

Banjo-Kazooie - we're getting a couple of neat spiritual successors through Kickstarter (A Hat in Time being the most well known), but really, they're not the same thing. I miss the bear and the bird.

Klonoa - a lot of people have never heard of this series, and that makes me sad. Classic 2.5D platformers before it was even CALLED 2.5D, the last that was heard from the guy was a Wiimake no-one bought. Which also makes me sad.

Metroid - because I refuse to believe that Other M is the last we'll ever hear from the franchise. It deserves so much better than that.

Bury

Call of Duty - Remember when this was a series of WW2 shooters? I do. Good times. *sigh*

Halo - As a single player game, Halo has always been boring and overstretched (the Library, anyone?). As a multiplayer game, it has changed the face of gaming forever in the most negative way I want it to. Its influence is felt everywhere, and the irony is that the franchise has NEVER BEEN ANYTHING MORE THAN AVERAGE.

EVERY SINGLE EA SPORTS TITLE - Gee, I wonder why.

Revive
1.) Golden Sun. An RPG series I discovered only a few years ago, but quickly became one of my favorites. While Dark Dawn played just fine, it didn't measure up as well in the story department and left on a cliffhanger. A proper sequel, possibly with one of Felix's kids as the protagonist, is defiantly needed.

2.) Spyro the Dragon. I played the hell out of the PS1 Spyro games as a kid (Ripto's Rage being my personal favorite) and while I tried the one on the Gamecube (Enter the Dragonfly I think it was called) it was just too buggy and unpolished for my taste. A new Spyro game like the PS1 era games would be a welcome experience.

3.) Earthbound. With as much of a following as those games have attracted over the years, this series is ripe for a resurrection. If they gave an official Western release of Mother 3, I would bury Nintendo in my money (it wouldn't be a very big pile, but they'd get the idea)!

Bury
1.) Final Fantasy. At this point, the series has just become a punchline. XIII and its spinoffs were awful and the first looks at the new game are not encouraging. Just put this one to rest, even if its for a little while.

2.) Call of Duty. Another series that has become a parody of itself without a hint of self awareness. Lets put this one to rest and get back to making shooters fun again.

3.) Resident Evil. I'm starting to notice a pattern to my Bury choices. The AAA industry made a statement a while ago that was along the lines of "there isn't a market for Horror games anymore" and this series isn't helping the case for Horror at all. I'd be happy to play games like Amnesia, Alien Isolation, and Outlast and let RE stay dead and buried.

Half Life: I know that they're working on one, but they really need to realize that after a while even the biggest fans of a series will stop caring about the media if no new stuff is ever released. Their stubborn "It's finished when it's finished" perfectionism is admirable and it helped to make their series amazing, but if it takes more than a few years to produce a product similar in length to their episodes then some kind of production revising needs to happen.

Quake: I haven't heard anything about this series at all. Despite Quake 4 not being enjoyed much by others, it's still very recognizable in the FPS and PC market, and I really loved the whole series. Plus, Quake Live being brought back on steam made me get the Jonesies for a next chapter to the story.

Banjo Tooie: I don't think any explanation is necessary.

Bury:

EverQuest: Each time I walk into a gamestop and look at the (now incredibly tiny) PC stand I see a box for EverQuest, which is still trying to stay alive and get new players. The box for EverQuest is always the same though, no matter where you go: it's obviously years old, looks like it was used as a booster seat at a restaurant, faded and with a stain on the back that covers up a lot of the reading material. Also it's usually underneath the gigantic stand for WoW. It had it's time- a very good time when it was the game for lovers of rpgs to play, but that time has passed, and it either needs a drastic new direction or to give up.

Call of Duty: Up until modern warfare it was just a side-track of Battlefield for me. 4 changed the whole game and got everyone's attention, and MW2-3 raised the stakes and made it even better. But with those games they also put themselves into a corner where there wasn't much of a direction to go, story-wise. The gameplay got stale, and the stories became ridiculously stupid; playing Ghosts led me to hate the series more than any other series I've ever played, just with the first few missions.

Can't think of a third one. I usually don't want game series to die.

Bloody Roar - either make a Bloody Roar 5, or (by my personal preference) a reboot, preferably with the following:
1) Better voice direction. (Have you heard the voice acting in Bloody Roar 4?)
2) Animal forms only, no conceptual forms like "the Unborn" and "The Spurious" (Also, no mythological-based forms).
3) No tournament arc or "Gaia's Vengeance" story, PLEASE.

Beyond Good and Evil/Psychonauts - Two games that have sequel potential but haven't been heard from in years.

Banjo-Kazooie/Spyro the Dragon/Crash Bandicoot - 'Nuff said.

...Yes, I know this is more than three franchises. Don't care.

To Bury:

Call of Duty
Battlefield
EA Sports

Basically they're the same game over and over and over and over again. And somehow they're very popular...

I'd probably res Jak and Daxter, A decent Fable and Spore.
But each of the most recent games have been iffy. So I'm worried about the possibility of it happening and failing.

I'd kill Half-Life. Mediocre games kept alive by an old joke.
Otherwise I can't think of a game that is actually a negative to gaming rather than just bad.

Legacy of Kain series (or at least HD remakes)

These are mostly just franchises I don't care about and is only my personal opinion.
Assassin's Creed: They've just milked this franchise to death.
HALO. I never was all that impressed with these games, so I think it's time for them to hang it up.
God of War: I love these games, but the story is finished, let it die!
