Scott also decided to sit, he was already soaking wet... so why not? He leaned up against a tree a little further back from the road where the others were standing. He sat quietly, not really thinking about anything. Scott enjoyed this short moment of peace.

Coming outside of the center, Max saw some other grunts get up to go in. The rain, thankfully, was almost over.

"Come on guys, get healed up. I want to meet with Alex at the campsite before sunrise."

Seen enough of this town for one night, that's for sure.

Mayu continued to be a resting post for the newest addition to the team while looking at her Pokeballs. She was happy that they were now healthy, especially after they worked so hard to help her in the building. She hoped something like that wouldn't happen again, but she knew to expect the unexpected in this team now.

This whole process seemed to be taking longer than Dirk had been expecting. Not that he was complaining. More rest was a good thing.

"Make me when we're ready" he muttered to no one in particular.

Weariness overcame him and he fell into an uneasy sleep.

Finally, with all the members healed Max got everyone's attention by kicking over a sleeping grunt.

"Come on you lot, we're not staying here. Let's go to the campsite."

The tired, bitter grunts walked along the forest beside the main paths. Rockets never traveled out of cover as that's where the Pokemon Rangers watched. It was quiet and damp, peaceful after the rain. A few Caterpie jumped down from the trees, reacting to the presence of the grunts but they were no match for the rested Pokemon of the team.

They came upon a clearing when, to even Max's surprise, there was a campsite all ready with tents. Some other grunts were leaving, obviously being among those who set up the site. Alex came over and beamed.

"Why do you guys look so down? We did a fucking good job tonight!"

"Uh, boss? We messed up big time." said one grunt, forgetting who he was talking to.

*SMACK*

The bat went across the dazed grunt and Alex turned back to the rest.

"As I was asayin, we got most of orange team arrested! And my dear friend Carlos is no longer commander. All according to plan!" he said, smiling wickedly. Rocket politics were underhanded and the better you were at being a commander, the more likely you were to be promoted.

No wonder he wanted me to take the green grunts up... He wanted us to fuck up...

"I got you, my precious little tools, some good accommodations. Pick a tent and pile in, we move at moonrise." he said, yawning loudly. Max picked a tent and flopped onto the air mattress. Sometimes being a part of the wealthiest gang in Kanto had its perks. He slept instantly.

***

A Rocket messenger climbed down the stairs.

"Yellow team's camp is established on schedule sir." said the grunt to Petrel.

"Good. I just spoke with the boss. He's delighted with the shares. Alex did his job well."

He turned to the blue grunts lounging around, some of whom were clearly drunk.

"Well, go reinforce the team! We've got plenty of things to do in the East."

Leela chose a nearby tent after another of Alex's displays and laid down on whatever was provided for the grunts to sleep on. After making sure that her pokeballs were wrapped up underneath her, so that another Rocket didn't get any ideas. She left her satchel out though, with the pokemon and cash she'd taken from the job, by her side. Whoever her tentmate was, she didn't care and didn't know, because she was out within a few minutes of laying down and getting herself situated for the night.

Caid picked the nearest tent to her and flopped down, not really caring if it was occupied by another person. They'd just have to suffer if so. She let out her Ekans to snuggle with, as was per usual, and drifted off to sleep, snoring loudly. It's been a long day, but not nearly as long as what the other Rockets had.

Dirk hadn't really woken up when the order to move had been given. He'd simply followed everyone else, half asleep. No need to waste perfectly good resting time. As soon as he could he'd wandered into an unocupied tent and fallen over, back to sleep straight away.

Mayu followed loyally after the group, happy that she was no longer being used as a resting post. As soon as they arrived at the camp and she was given the order to find a tent and lay down, she hurried over to a tent, but found that Leela had already claimed it. The others seemed to be getting occupied as well, so she shrugged and settled into the tent while saying. "I hope you don't mind me being a tent-mate." She giggled and settled down on the air mattress as well. "Ah, it's so soft."

Dylan searched for a tent that was unoccupied, but was unsuccessful.
"well... it's a good thing I always bring a sleeping bag with me."
He found a nearby tree and prepared his sleeping bag.
"at last... some rest after a long day..."

Max awoke at the sound of the tent zipper and turned to see Alex standing there, beaming at him.

"Trying to catch some sleep Maxxie?"

"Shut the fuck up Alex."

"What's the matter?" he said in a mock frown.

"We were the fucking bait for the cops in your games. Could have backfired terribly and you would have been the one to disappear, not Carlos."

"Ah, but it did work. And you did the job quite well for me. What a good tool you are Max."

He proceeded to sit down on the mattress opposite of Max. He had a catlike smile on his face.

"Don't tell me you're still uncomfortable around me Max? Not after all we've been through together."

"I just do my fucking job." said Max, turning away his gaze.

"Oh, that's no fun. You've got to enjoy the company of your fellow offic-"

There was the cough of someone at the tent door. Irritated, Alex rose and opened it angrily.

"What?"

"We're the reinforcements Petrel sent. Where do-"

"Do you think I give a shit about where you pitch the tents? Just get that Tauros back in its ball and set up. Just get out of here!"

He closed the door to the tent and turned back to Max. There was the sound of snoring.

"Fuck. We'll have to catch up another night then my Maxxie." said Alex, running his hand along Max's body before he lay on his own bedding. In what seemed like an eternity later, Alex started to snore himself.

Max shivered uncontrollably, rising to look at his superior. Fake snoring didn't always work but fortunately he was as tired as Max was. He stared at the man who was only a few years older than himself. That package of cruel efficiency marred with violent, maniacal glee slept like a baby.

The sooner I get rid of you, the sooner I move up in the world. I'm done playing your games you freak.

He lay back down, trying to rest. Starting to think about all his allies within the Rocket teams and who he could depend on to support him, he drifted off.

The blue Commanders nodded, rounding up the blues who were going to be transferred. "Alright, listen up! The Yellow Team has set up camp, and it's time for you all to get up and start moving!"

Ellie flinched when they slammed the door open, and the other grunts started filing out. It looked like it was time to go. The Commander was first, and the Lieutenants brought up the rear. She fell in line quickly and quietly, flicking what was left of her smoke into a puddle. A Tauros ambled along as well, carrying their supplies. It was a silent walk: almost half of the grunts were drunk, the other half were smart enough to not draw attention to themselves.

By the time they reached the campsite, most of the Yellow team was already asleep. They set up their tents in pairs, and shared them. Ellie was with another blue grunt she recognized. She thought her name was Michelle, or Melanie, or something like that. It didn't matter anyway. It was time to sleep. She laid on her back, keeping her brass knuckles on in case anything happened. She slept lightly, ready to move at a hint of trouble.

Scott sauntered in with the rest of Yellow Team. All were ordered to find a tent and get some sleep. Scott never really liked sleeping in tents and opted to sleep outside next to the fire. It was warm and his clothes had a better chance to dry. He took off his jacket, shirt, undershirt, his boots and socks and laid them next to the fire, so they could dry. He laid down next to the flame, his cold damp feet warming with each flicker.
Scott stared up at the sky, the clouds had gone leaving the stars. Scott continued to stare before drifting off to sleep.

Max stirred and rose quietly. Changing quickly, he left the tent before Alex could wake up. The moon was rising slowly and it was time to get to work. One by one he ripped open tents and prodded members.

"Get up, we've got lots of stuff to do."

"The fuck you doing on the floor? The bed's over there jackass. Move out."

"WAKE UP"

Slowly the camp woke up, most of the slower grunts struggling to their feet with hangovers.

"You there, you're new." said Max, pointing at Ellie.

"Go get the Tauros released, we need to get all this stuff together."

It was safe to assume this was one of the people in charge. He seemed good enough. Still, without names, or even rank, she gave the safer answer of a small nod and "Yes, sir." She found the Tauros at the center of the camp, near the fire. Most of the general supplies were left there. The realization that the other Blue leaders were gone now sank in. She was now a Yellow grunt. She released the Tauros, which stretched and snorted as it got ready to work. "The Tauros is ready, sir."

"Stupid beast of burden." said Alex popping up out of nowhere, kicking the weak Pokemon in the sides. It merely shrugged off the abuse.

"Alright my minions, make this camp disappear!"

The grunts who were stretching and generally acting lethargic snapped to, saluting before getting to their tents. They took the tents down, rolling them into their bags. Then they each pulled out a Pokecapsule[footnote]Author's note: As items can be found in Pokeball like objects, I'm incorporating it into the world as a way of transporting bulky but lightweight equipment easily. I'll post my thoughts on this in the group.[/footnote] and the tents vanished into red light.

"Put the saddlebags onto the Tauros and let's get going." snapped Max at the Rocket he didn't recognize. Hadn't she taken down a campsite before? He watched her hastily snap the canvas bags onto the side of the Tauros, centering it on the creature's back. She was a little cute but business came before pleasure.

I'll have plenty of time for whoever I want when I'm in the elite.

All the black tents with the red emblazoned R's were now in their respective Pokecapsules. The cooking equipment and the supply of beer was also packed up but they were too heavy to be placed in the capsules. The grunts came one by one, depositing the various capsules into one side of the saddlebag. The other side was filled up with the booze and the stove.

"Isn't modern technology great? And how the fuck does Sliph manage to do this so cheaply?" mused Alex as the Tauros snorted. The weight was coming down hard on the Pokemon but it stayed still.

"Whatever, it'll help us take them over. Makes our lives easier." he said, striking the Tauros with the bat when the packing was finished. A grunt jumped up onto the Pokemon and it slowly started moving East.

"Right, so we're going to go around Saffron to get to Lavender Town. We don't need to deal with the police there as they haven't been paid off yet. We'll snatch targets of opportunity but for the main part keep your head down. MOVE OUT MY LOVELIES!"

The troop eventually ended up into two marching lines behind Alex and the lumbering giant Boris. The Tauros lagged behind everyone else.

"Max, go back there and make sure nobody runs off." said Alex quietly.

Desertion wasn't common seeing as the only place a Rocket could go in his uniform was to other Rockets or jail but it did happen from time to time. Slowing down, he counted the numbers of grunts. At the back of the line he started walking again, this time with the team he had taken up the tower.

Alright, time to figure out who blew the mission right out of the gate.

"Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to attack the guards yesterday? Someone put them to sleep." said Max loudly and angrily. This wasn't something that was going to be forgotten, someone had to pay for nearly getting the team captured.

Grumbling a bit at the rude awakening, Caid walked alongside that group she saw at the center. She has her hands behind her head, yawning every so often, and smirking at the uncomfortable looks some of the other Rockets are giving her. As they travel, she notices some of the familiar territory.

"Hey, we're almost near where th' Riders hung out. Heh...good times..."

Lavender Town

Ellie hadn't been back there since... since she had become a Rocket. Part of her wondered whether her house was still there. She had locked it up, and there wasn't much inside anymore... her thoughts were interrupted by Max. "Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to attack the guards yesterday? Someone put them to sleep." The fact that he had waited until now to shout about messing up whatever the Yellow team was doing made her frown a little. Punishing them after the fact wasn't as effective. She stayed on the right side of the group: even if it meant she had to turn her head a little to see the other Rockets, and that she could easily get blindsided by one, she would rather have the forest in her peripheral. If she was hit, she could return a good beating, but if the police, or some wild pokemon came crashing through, she would be the one to blame. I shouldn't get them upset so fast... I'll make sure nothing bad happens.

Dirk awoke to the sounds of tents falling down and bags being zipped up. They had already started to take down the camp. His leg ached and he unbandaged it to check it. He'd cleaned it well and it didn't seem to be infected.

Dirk gave a sigh of relief. First stroke of luck he'd had since joining up. Still hurt like hell though. He breifly considered asking for some painkillers but decided against it. It was best to always aware of your limits and frankly, he didn't think they'd give him any anyway.

He replaced the bandage and helped to dismantle the camp ignoring the protests from his leg.

As the procession of Rockets filed out towards Saffron city, Dirk follwed along, head to the ground, deep in thought. Of course, the actual line of thought was one involving trying to think of something to think about. Not that he could.

This was going to be one hell of a walk.

Max had started yelling at them, trying to figure out who had tipped off the gaurds back in Celadon. Dirk ignored it. Leela had already explained what had happened to them last night so he didn't see any reason to respond.

Leela woke to the sound of Max yelling and hitting her tent that morning. Looking over, she saw the kid fast asleep, curled into a ball of sorts under the meager blanket that had come with the tent. She shook Mayu to make sure she was awake before drawing a small travel brush she'd picked up a while back through her hair a few times and setting it back into it's normal state and put on her lens-less glasses.

The two got up, Leela turning in the pokeballs and jewelery from last night, but keeping most of the cash for herself. A little bit more than her regular paycheck, she had decided early on that she'd be as honest as she could be to her new employers. Dad's connections weren't going to keep her safe, she knew, but, then again, Leela didn't intend to live her life as a grunt only to end up in a cell.

She had higher aspirations, and the first step towards that was, of course, to sabotage a superior and then prove she could do a better job, Max was alright, if a bit on the repetitive side. She'd follow him, but Alex...Alex was another story entirely. A rabid dog that would need to be put down eventually, she didn't know what pokemon he had clipped onto that belt of his, but she did know that he would slip at some point. And she would be there to make sure he slipped off the wrong side of the cliff.

The tents packed away and the Tauros's burdened down with the capsules, the lines formed, the team from last night was last in line. They were going through the wilderness, and wild pokemon were notorious for jumping out when you least expected it. She kept her hand clamped around one of the bags on her belt holding her Pokeballs with Rainy-Day inside. The other hand, she put on Mayu's nearest shoulder, she was still a kid after all, no need for her to get the brunt of any attack just yet.

"Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to attack the guards yesterday? Someone put them to sleep."

"Didn't we go over this last night, Max?" Leela responded to the somewhat irate Rocket leader,"They found us out pretty early on somehow, a few of us heard it over a radio conversation, and we took out some more guards to try to keep the word from spreading faster, and you know the rest because you were there."

She didn't really see why they were treading over ground already covered, if he'd wanted answers, he would've asked them more in-depth last night. Not the morning after the screw up. Yes, Max was irritable, but he seemed to care about the jobs they pulled more than the Alex fellow. She felt she could trust him, more than most of the others around, especially Zane. That little moron she didn't trust, but knew he didn't have the brains to rise much above their current position in the business, therefore he was unimportant until proven otherwise.
