Three? It's histrionics.

That's not exaggeration for effect. Sorry.

What? no Yolo? no Swag? Are those too last year? Must be getting behind the times.

So, yeah. Pretty much this entire poll is stupid. I mean, some of these "words" are more phrases, I don't even know what a kale is.

Anyways, I voted for basic, cuz I'm more of a c++ kinda guy.

A bunch of angry internet-dwellers bombing a reader's poll for published material they don't actual patron all because they're spiteful twats? I'm absolutely shocked.

Anybody remember last month when some angry GGers found a poll about who the worst person ever was and they bombed it with a bunch of suggestions like Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian.

Anyways, I vote for banning thew word "censorship", because people get the word wrong so often, and because its delicious irony to do so.
They previously got Kim Jong Un times Readers Choice for person of the year in 2012. Not much more you can say to that.

Get rid of the word feminism from here to the end of days. It used to be about equality, which was good. Now its a way for bored, upper middle class kids to look down on everyone else and stick their nose where it doesn't belong. It promotes class discrimination too often nowadays. I'm tired of it for the same reason as religious people turning up their nose at everyone else.

I can't even...

Feminist is literally a basic word in discourse on gender issues, and to ban it would literally disrupt the discourse. Whoever wants to ban such a basic word as "feminist" must be literally bossy.

"I made it past elementary school and want to ban the word 'feminist'."-said no one ever

...Yeah, I'm literally out of ways to continue this while still making some sense.
I think the whole thing is to be taken in a lighthearted tone, almost as if its a joke, same with all the other expressions (no one is banning anything and they arent doing a petition to do so).

I also think their point is that a lot of people use these words when there are better words to pick from at the given moment, following their reason to include feminist on the list (having celebrities state if they are feminist or not) maybe they would prefer to have them state that they are either A, B, C, etc... instead of just saying if they are or not X. No one ever asks if they are fighting for women rights, equality, or male rights, those are three very different things and the buzzword is just one.
I think you took my post more seriously than it was intended to be taken. Look at the list of words on the poll and then read my post again.

Yolo actually was the banned word last year.

Anyway yeah, I voted for feminist. The rage on tumblr and twitter is hilarious, and will be even funnier when it wins.

oh 4chan, you know just what to do to get the maximum amount of jimmies rustled for minimal effort, and just when I was beginning to think the delicious internet drama was almost tapped out for the year.

Seriously this is hilarious, both the fact that Time had the bright idea to put 'feminist' on the poll and the fact that so many people are mad at the fact that it's winning. It's like Christmas come early for someone who derives a sick pleasure from watching internet drama like I do

edit: and if these result aren't 4chan's doing, considering a bunch of feminists tried to ban the word 'bossy' a while back, I'd say turnabout is fair play

there has been heavy speculation that this is due to 4chan

it does actually frighten me a little that people could be like that...or be influenced by 4chan (or hell...gamer gate) in this way
That the word is leading the pack? For sure, wouldn't be surprised.

That the word is on the list? I doubt it. It's more likely that it's because of the whole "This is what a feminist looks like" t-shirt thing where several politicians donned them because they were popular, while probably not having a clue or care about feminism.
Oh even better.

In the UK they tried to get a whole bunch of politicians to wear those shirts. When the Prime Minister declined they shamed him for it.

Because obviously a man that doesn't proudly wear a feminist shirt has to be outed for his heresy!

Except, it turns out these feminist shirts that retail for about $80 were being made in a sweatshop, by women earning a quarter of the average wage, in terrible living conditions.

They are called Egalitarians. They started as Feminists that were pushed out by the #killallmen professional victim feminists and are hated because they dont support national castration day.

Funny how no one remembers the that.

No... wait, Sad. I meant sad.
It's difficult to "remember" entirely fictitious events.

I've yet to see or hear 'bae' used at any moment in my life outside of the recent occurrence of people complaining about the use of it....

*shrugs*.

I'd be cool with people not saying feminism. Talk to anyone now and it's all 'Do you think women should have equal rights? Ya? We'll, you're a feminist!' and 'Feminism isn't just for/about women, it's about equality!'

Both of those things are true, and fuck you if you use them that way. Equality is fine, if you want it to be about more than just women, don't fucking use the term feminism because, no, it isn't about everyone, it's about women.

Genderism? Equalism? I don't give a shit, just no more using the term feminism when your agenda is more than females.

I literally just cast my vote for literally.

Then I felt bad about myself for voting on a Time Magazine Poll.

Really how someone apply's hyperbole is not up to you decide. It's them applying it.

I guess I can see where they're coming form. I don't activate for banning a word. But when you have people say yelling at you about the right level of hyperbole use I guess I can see why people are annoyed by that.

My real question is how on Earth you're supposed to choose just one. Bae, literally, said no one ever, obvi, sorry not sorry, yaaaaasss, turnt, and I can't even are all painfully stupid even by meme standards.

The most amusing thing about this thread is that people apparently believe that the ~gamergaters~ are the only people who might have a problem with the word feminist. Put on some Fox News sometime... bae.

On second thought, yeah, I'd probably vote for bae.
