Here we go again. The thread that spawned so many different responses is back. This time the question and the story are different.

What is it that sets you apart from others? Tell us in detail.

For those of you who don't know my story:

I was born with naturally red eyes (Ocular Albinism) yet my right is darker than my left (which is also my worst eye). All my life I have been called a "witch", a "demon", and "the daughter of Satan" by people who saw my eyes. My parents were banned from their church because of this, and they've never forgiven me for it.

This changed (somewhat) in 2004 when I had to get corrective lenses for my left eye which was becoming worse, and contacts were my only option. I wanted to get a different colored iris to hide my left eye so my optometrist decided to make it green since green is the opposite of red on the color spectrum. So I ended up looking like Suiseiseki prior to Rozen Maiden. This was not a problem until I enter high school 3 years ago, and by then a few had seen RM. So then I became the laughing stock of my school. This continues to some degree, yet actions I have taken that were reccomended by so many of you here on the Escapist have caused some drastic changes.

The scribbling on my locker has ceased, however the occasional practical joke does rear its ugly head from time to time. My confidence in has grown, and my self-esteem is greater than it has ever been(all thanks to everyone here *kiss+hug*). My parents continue to ignore me, yet this doesn't seem to affect me as greatly as it did before.

Five points for the Dr. Rockzo reference! And I was one of only two people on my dorm floor that didn't smoke pot. But I ripped some guy a new hole when he offered me weed once, and I was never offered it again.

I've read your story before, but this part always gets me steamed. You're their DAUGHTER. Why are they letting other people's ignorant opinions affect how they feel about you? Since they didn't like getting banned from church, I'm assuming they are (or at least were) religious (and probably Christian, based on the "daughter of Satan" title). If I were ever face to face with your parents, they would get quite a lecture from me (and probably a gag if they tried to argue).

I thought about that. Make him into a brownie or something.
I love being weird, though. Makes me feel special in a little way.

You were picked on?! I would have think you were cool. And your parents completely fail at being people. Who would put their religion before their family... Family is real, you can make your own religion anyways. I would say just screw your parents, live your own life and make sure you don't do their mistakes of neglecting you to your children.

Yes, I am very weird, as well. I won't go into all the details. Just take my word for it.

Lucky, I've had to spend weeks without sleep drinking scotch like it was manna from heaven to get my eyes red.

My things aren't as kule. Metro, I can't get more than 2 friends and maby one gf every 2 years because i've been branded a fag for not wanting to smell like piss and mud all day. I proudly fight a war on the drug warand and a war on jesus (I live in deep south, so, yah. I've got a dream of being a great social critic (fancy speak for comic) and being one of the greats like Carlin or Hicks. And a general disdain for 97% of all of huamn kinds affairs(fine people on the escapist excluded)

Really glad things are better for you. I'm glad that you were helped out by these forums...And that we see the unjustness of your situation.

I don't wanna ***** about how I was treated in the past, but to make a long story short, I used to be made fun of because of my slight speech impediment (stuttering/stammering) and because of my eyes (I have constant double vision, and therefore suck at 90% of sports due to not having depth perception.

I'm less socially awkward now and have more control over my eyes so I can actually focus them on something so people -think- I'm sorta normal, but I still have the scars from the laser eye surgery that just had to go wrong (eye turning inward was over-corrected, and now it turns outward!).

You know how cats have those like black lines for pupils? I've got streaks like those in the white area of my eye. Personally, I think it's pretty damn cool, but it certainly is a bit odd and I've gotten all sorts of comments over the years. (Nothing as bad as how you're treated, though.)

But yeah, and I have a "bald spot" as it appears (since no hair ever grew there) where the doctor "accidently" dropped -and broke off- a syringe in my skull. And my head grew around it. So I have a small piece of metal lodged somewhere in my brain, and it's under a part of my scalp that for some reason has a slight bulge and hair doesn't grow there...

xD

I dunno. I like to think of myself as a pretty normal person but I guess I spend a lot of time indoors... :/

Um, did the other thread get locked, and if so, why? If not, why didn't you bring up the old thread, why do we need two? Just curious.

That is terrible. I am sure you are every bit a good human being and even lovely (I wouldn't know as I have seen no picture of you). The fact that your eyes are red should not freak people out, it is just an oddity of nature. I find it morbidly saddening that in this day an age, pathetic bigotry like this still exists. Personally, I think your eyes would be kind of cool and it is your mind that I would judge.

Anywho, anti-bigotry sentiment out of the way, I am easily one of the smartest people that attend me school. I have by far, the largest vocabulary and the widest range of knowledge of anyone I know. This has earned me various nick names and has been the root of severe teasing throughout the tenure of my education. Since when did being intelligent become a threat? What the fuck is so wrong about a person sitting outside enjoying the weather, while reading a good book? I ask you this because I feel like I have been sucked into an intellectual void, from which there is no return and books are burned as templates for evil.

Oh I am sorry I do not find the same mindless sports you do interesting. God forbid I have the capacity to perform multiple actions at once. Maybe if you fuckers had decent education you would not end up working at McDonald's or similar useless jobs that do nothing to better man kind. Maybe opening a book once in awhile for self indulgence wouldn't kill it.

Sorry this turned into more of a rant, than a what makes me different post.

I have to say that you have an awesome feature, then. Maybe it's difficult living with your eyes, but I've always thought that having red eyes would be cool. Still, I hope that your situation improves. Your parents should realize sooner or later that you are still their daughter, and that the color of your eyes is not that big a deal.

That's a shame. You know, the evils in the world aren't perpetrated by witches or demons but by people who don't take the time to consider how other people feel. People born with unusual traits, or - worst case scenario - crippling deformities, shouldn't be persecuted for looking different. Not in an era where we know there's a non-demonic explanation. There is no reason for people who are different to be scapegoats.

I'd think red irises would a pretty damn cool trait to have. You'd look distinctive.

I'm an introvert. I feel energized when I'm alone or with a small, select, group of friends. Crowds tire me - and I find I have trouble making myself heard when there is too much background noise. I'm not into alcohol, drugs, or getting high (though I do occasionally have a drink, or two). I'm a strong atheist. I'm a skeptic and an individualist. I would describe my sleeping habits as voluntary insomnia. Does that make me a weird person?

(PS: Life gets better after high school.)
