Hehe, hilarious. I'd watch it.

For 2 minutes at which point I'd turn it off and visit a church to pray for a nuclear holocaust
No you fool! This show is clearly a result of extreme levels of radioactivity. Nuclear Holocausts will only make it stronger.

OP: I don't watch much TV any more. Seriously... the garbage that gets passed as "educational" is just offensive and the reality shit is the 6th circle of hell.

Some of the British Reality TV shows are okay, as are the comedy panel shows, but they aren't enough to make me pay out for TV channels.

I miss the age where National Geographic, Discovery and the History Channel actually delivered programs related to the channels title.

Thank God we have the BBC, that's all I can say. Admittedly it has a whole channel (BBC3) dedicated to insipid mindless crap, and it does make talent contest shows like everyone else, but it also gives us the Proms, Natural World, Wonders of the Universe, David Attenbourough, Andrew Marr etc.

Just stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.

I remember long ago watching TLC for the documentaries on the human animal and enjoying them greatly, but that was so very long ago.

actually, the big trend now is "Hey! Are you an unshaven redneck who owns a blue collar business where you cuss at each other alot and occasionally risk bodily injury? Then we'll give you a show!"

I mean, geezus, Lizard Lick repo.....fucking let an ATTEMPTED MURDER go down on camera and noone calls the fucking cops....
Yeaaaaaah...that's because that show is completely staged and fake. I used to call TLC The Litter Channel because 99% of their programming was about people having litters of kids. Now it's the "LOOK AT THE FREAKS! AREN'T YOU GLAD YOU'RE NOT LIKE THEM?!?! LOOK AT THOSE FREAKISH PEOPLE! Now you can feel better about yourself you shallow twat!" channel.

It caters to a certain portion of the population, not everyone watches every show on American TV believe it or not and the best thing to do is just ignore the shit like this and eventually it'll go away. Maybe.

Captcha: shaken not stirred...hows that for topical?

this is why i watch foreign tv, because if i have a choice between watching garbage or watching scantily clad sluts on a dating show/asian drama, i may as well have some fun and add my own subtitles and use my imagination to try to figure out whats going on. Try it sometime its actually pretty hilarious

I was more impressed with the smuggling operation of the local crime lord being written up as "dammit bobby, we didnt get PAID!"

Its just GTA: The TV Series. Fuckin love it

anc[is]Still beats the History Channel 24 hour Pawn Stars network. At least TLC has a bit of variety.
Hey, some people like that HARD CORE PAWN!
OT: I remember how much I liked television last night, because the Big Lebowski was on. And then this happened and I remember why mainstream media is crap. Because there are people who are going to watch and love the crap out of that show.

BBC4 is the more intellectual side of it, but BBC3 does have some decent comedies on, like Dirk Gently, IT crowd, re-runs of father ted, but all the time it has constant crap.

I think IT crowd and father ted are both Channel4, but you do make a good point. I think Being Human was originally on BBC3 and 'live at the electric' is very good. However, it is also the channel that produced Snog,Marry,Avoid and '15 and Pregnant', and all the similar shows go there.

Television has two very different markets.

-Teen Mom
-Ax Men
-John and Kate Plus 8
-The Biggest Looser
-Real Housewives of Wherever
and whatever the hell that was we just saw there is not for the same people as.

-Mad Men
-Breaking Bad
-Game of Thrones
-The Newsroom
-Boardwalk Empire
-Downton Abbey

The trick is to be on the right half, there is such a thing as good television, there is such a thing as great television, just ignore the crap, watch the good stuff and get on with your life. Also bring up the bad stuff on a blind date and if someone is actually interested in the topic of conversation pay your check and never call them again.

Really!? a spinoff of Toddlers and Tiaras!! Was the pedarest audience not enough to boost your ratings that you must now try to attract people who like to visit freak shows?

Oh TLC... You have fallen from grace in such a way so as to be almost completely unsalvageable.

Anyone remember when TLC had Junkyard Wars? Those were the days...

It's too bad the pander to the lowest elements of society now.
Oh man, Junkyard Wars. Those certainly were the days (I'll have to go look up an episode online now).

Personally, I blame it on the growing trend of anti-intellectualism in the US. More and more people don't want to be well educated, they don't want to learn about and think about complex issues, or things with a bit of nuance to them. They want clear, black and white, simple explanations to everything. They want the spectacle, and the side-show antics, of reality television (I *will* admit to watching the hell out of Fear Factor back in the day though ^^; ) instead of shows that actually impart new information, or perhaps change the way you look at things.

Where are those people in that video from anyway? If they're from the South, I apologize on behalf of those of us who aren't a horrible stereotype. People *do* have shirts with sleeves down here.

But yeah, television, especially the good, old channels aren't as good as they used to be.

Cartoon Network has live-action reality shows. The Discovery Channel is about building bikes and various forms of fishing (Although, as stated earlier in the thread, Mythbusters and Through the Wormhole are good). The Learning Channel has a bunch of terrible, MTV-quality reality shows. The History Channel is obsessed with aliens, truck-driving and Mayan Doomsday theories (I do miss when they were the WWII channel. At least it was history). G4 isn't even about videogames and technology any more, as they can't seem to fit shows like that in between re-runs of Cops and Cheaters.

Truly, people who didn't get to grow up in the 90's have missed out on the golden age of modern Television. At least they're all still alive on the internet :)

Is this what passes for American TV nowadays?
No. That's what passes as trash American TV.

Which is why the smart among us stick primarily to AMC and FX.

And on that note, back to eagerly awaiting the season premiere of Hell on Wheels.
