Is this what passes for American TV nowadays?

The Learning Channel where you don't learn anything! In the past, it actually had documentaries about science and history. That was ages ago and part of reason why I quit TV upon seeing what is on history and tlc nowadays. The few history shows on the history channel are of the elementary grade level anyway. What does ice road trucking have to do with history?

TLC has a show called extreme couponing which is a reality show about people who use coupons a lot..... I also saw a clip of some show where skinny and very fat people switch diets. The skinny person is being chastised for going on a walk and not eating all of the saturated fat.... ugh America... Then there is all the shows that celebrate pumping out babies. Let's celebrate the destruction of the Earth by overpopulation -_-. If you depend on your kids to raise your other kids THEN STOP HAVING KIDS!

Same vein of thought.... Discovery channel used to cover anthropology documentaries, archeology shows about lesser known cultures and now it is about guys who ride motorcycles....

Still beats the History Channel 24 hour Pawn Stars network. At least TLC has a bit of variety.

TLC went from some interesting shows rivalling Discovery and having some fun reality game shows where people would use innovation and some clever thinking to turn junk into fun inventions. Now it's rednecks, toddler pageants, and some twats that won't use birth control.

History used to be... History. Now it's swamp people, logging, pawn shops, and people searching for stuff to sell to pawn shops.

Discovery used to have shows involving travelling the world, learning about different animals, sometimes showing us stuff of a supernatural bent and occasionally showing how a disaster was averted by one person asking if they could be more than human somehow. Now it's variations on survival shows and endless Mythbusters (Granted I love Mythbusters but those two things do not make a network).

Weren't these networks supposed to be educational networks to give us an alternative to the drab presented by MTV and SPIKE? Now I feel my IQ drop whenever I pass by them when channel surfing.

Pretty much my reaction.

TV is shit nowadays. Most of the channels we get here are the american variety (TLC, Discovery channel, Animal Planet, etc). They've all become the same homogenous blob of show about manly men doing manly men stuff, at least when it comes to Discovery channel and History channel. It just sems like every show caters to the lowest common denominator. There's no specialization anymore.

This is why I only have basic cable and the HBO/Movie Channels package. Oh, and the one with AMC. Mostly I just PVR movies and watch those since TV is so awful these days. I was sad when National Geographic switched channel packages on us and we lost it, but, honeslt,y I"d seen all the nature programs they play anyway.

Now I go online to watch Monster Fish off of Discovery's site and such. Free, and no more creepy swamp people.

Ah, so that's what TLC stands for! ...Funny, there don't seem to be many shows about learning on that channel...

I opened this thread thinking it was about the band. Oy I'm old.

This is what passes for learning now? Glad I cut the cable.

For the love of god, people. I think my IQ dropped just from watching that. *shudder*

Now, I love me some reality TV. I adore Top Chef and Project Runway and Survivor and America's Next Top Model...but you couldn't pay me to watch that white trash BS.

It seems that TLC has become a modern day Coney Island sideshow, a place where people can go and see people who are different than them and laugh at them. Also I'm still angry at their show My Crazy Obsession for trying to find a Brony with a large collection of My Little Ponies toys to be put on their show.
