Dear fellow Escapists I propose some questions to you. Mainly it's one question with subcategories that you can answer or not answer as you please. My question is this: Do you think that all of these "major" debates will every come to a close? By debates I mean Abortion, Same-sex marriage, Marijuana legalization, etc. Do you think that these will ever be brought to an end one way or another by either banning or allowing these things all across the nation?

EDIT: It's not so much about making everyone happy or controversy. I'm just curious as to whether or not It will be "closed" one way or another. (ex. allowing Same-sex marriage in all states)

Abortion: care about.
Same-sex marriage: care about.
marijuana legalization: don't care about.

Things will eventually be brought to a close, either by the federal or state governments. It will either be nationwide or differ per state. Well, that's just a possibility. The two-party system handicaps action to the extreme.

or we could skip all that bureaucratic shit and just start the revolution whos with me

Nope they never will. Sorry these topics will be on the internet forever. Look at abortion it's legal in many ways has been for nearly 40 years. We still argue about it. We're an argumentative people.

It will never end because we can't even make everyone happy. There will always be controversy, which isn't always a bad thing I might add, as long as it's done respectively. But the chances of us ever finding a "good middle ground" are low at best.

I'd like to see action done about some issues instead of just talk, but that is the cost of progress I suppose

There are still people that think that African Americans are second class citizens so I don't see any issues going away completely.

This should be in the religion/politics forum since it deals with topics heavily steeped in those things.

As for my opinion, no they won't. It would require people agreeing with each other and accepting of other's differences. And thats just not going to happen.

Maybe.
If religion is finally taken completely out of the conversation when it comes politics.
But when will that happen?

When it comes to things that people have such deep seated beliefs and opinions about there's no end to it.

Obviously.

Religion is entirely, absolutely, 100% evil, bad, and holds no value at all in debate, especially when said debates are meant to be done by people using their personal opinions.

Maybe when retards are finally taken completely out of the conversation, when it comes to politics.
But when will that happen?

No, so long as there are people with different opinions.
Im liberal,(and religious) and its not going to change anytime soon.
And for conservatives, their view isnt going to change anytime soon.

Also as soon as someone changes something *cough*healthcare*cough* the other side fights tooth and nail to change it back.

So it will keep on a' going.

Exactly. No matter how long something has been legal/illegal, or how many people are content with the way things are, there will always be at least a small group who disagrees.

Transmission third world war third round
A decade of the weapon of sound above ground
No shelter if you're looking for shade
I lick shots at the brutal charade
As the polls close like a casket
On truth devoured
Silent play in the shadow of power
A spectacle monopolized
The cameras eyes on choice disguised
Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil?
Or for the vultures who thirst for blood and oil?
Yes a spectacle monopolized
They hold the reins, stole your eyes
All the fistagons, the bullets and bombs
Who stuff the banks
Who staff the party ranks
More for Gore or the son of a drug lord
None of the above fuck it cut the cord

[OT] No, learned moralities will always handicap rational action, intelligent action, and the morally "right" actions.

Locke is rolling in his grave...

im sure they will eventually quiet down with a few generations certain compromises will be made and the mass population will just stop spending energy over the issues

I'm sure they'll come to a definitive close sometime in the next fifty years or so, but by then, we'll be so caught up in the Cybernetic-American Rights Movement that the problems of today will seem small in comparison.

Not in this current America. Once we have another Revolution, maybe. After our third or fourth, they will definitly have a conclusion, hopfully for the better.
