To this day, I maintain that I like Metal Gear Solid 2's story above all others.

Someone's gonna drag me away in a straitjacket one day, I just know it...
The story is arguably the strongest, yes, but its still the gameplay that lets it down.
In what alternate universe is MGS2 the game with the superior story? I mean, I loved it, but come on.
The one that embracers the ideal of the story itself being merely an experiemnt on Raiden, and hence the players, openess to suggestion and command from the voice of Authority.
I get that, I do. It's one of the reasons why I loved the game. That was a ballsy thing to do with a sequel to such an acclaimed game. But 1 out of every 10 people who've played it are able to appreciate that. I got it in the end because I was fully invested - when Solidus kicked the bucket I actually felt pretty sad because in the end, he truly was the good guy of the story. In a ruthless sort of way.

MGS games are fun, really. But I tend to agree with Yahtzee. It's just batshit crazy and unfollowable. I mean, MGS was a BIT confusing, then MGS2... just lost me completly... and MGS3 was probably the best because IT DIDN'T FOLLOW THE STORY OF MGS2. MGS4, being required to wrap up the story of 2, I can only assume is confusing as hell.

Considering it was so over my head that it collided with a 747, I didn't enjoy the MGS4 ending.
MGS3, now that's a different issue.
That was perfection.

Yeah, sorry fans. MGS had a good ending (the Ho Yay one with Otakon was best, that romantic BS with Meryl was just...well... BS). MGS3 had a GREAT ending.

I want them to release it for the 360 in some "substance" version or something.
not going to happen, Kurdt Cobain has a better chance of releasing an album of new material

other than that, the ending was very good, if not a bit long and yes it was a bit sad as well but deservedly so, it was Hideo's goodbye to the game and the world he created and usually goodbyes aren't happy

That scene at the very end had me nearly in tears, and anyone who played MGS3 the first time around and understood, I guarantee they'll have felt the same.
The way the music climaxes as he salutes just gives me chills every time I see it, and the way you see this hardened soldier, who struggles to show any emotion throughout the mission, just cry like that got me the first time I saw it, and still does.

MGS, in my opinion, is the best game series out there today, purely for the story. The gameplay is unrivalled anyway, but a film series like this would have been majorly successful anyway.
The writing, the acting, the direction, the pace, it's all brilliant.

MGS3 for me wasn't good until the very end. It was a little too jokey to take seriously, but the last hour of the game and the last cutscene are absolutely heartbreaking.

MGS4 wraps up everything from every game...not just MGS2. I felt the strongest emotion from the scene between Big Boss and Snake at the end and the cutscene right after the microwave and even during it... The Raiden part however, i didnt really care for it to be honest. Something about Raidens "hardened" voice always bothered me in the game.

I was more emotional during the...
...return to Shadow Moses.

The fact that I knew the map layout without having to think about it was too much.
That bit killed me. Seriously I was like a little girl with a skinned knee. Especially when that music come on.

I havn't played the other MGSs, but I did read some backstory off Wiki. I found it very easy to follow the story in MGS4, and the problem is that since it's an MGS game people assume it's confusing and complicated when I easily understood it with a few nitpicks here and there.

I also cried manly tears at the end, and I'll be looking for the other MGSs in that bundle pack thing soon.

Oh I cried. I cried when Big Boss turned up. I cried because it was nearly semi good up until that point.

I didn't understand a thing that was hapenning. But I still got more emotional than any other game I've played.

Which, really, is still pretty small. But hey, I got nostalgia without even playing any of the games.

I loved MGS3's ending, 2's, quite, havent played 1 (...) ...But Mgs4 was just a pisstake. Allow me to copypaste from a journal from just after i finished it.

Myself said:
I'm still reeling from the lack of sleep i got last night. I finally finished MGS4...And HOLY BLOODY HELL...It took forever. I loved the whole story thing and whatever, but...I played it for like...3 hours...and in that time, only 40 minuites were gameplay. IM DEAD FUCKING SERIOUS. Let me put it this way - It was just this -
Small bit running down a corridor, then a cutscene, one of the best bosses ever, then another cutscene, one of the most insane button-mashing seqences ive ever seen as snake goes down a corridor full of microwaves getting slower and slower, a profanely long cutscene (like 10 friggin' minuites), then a strange tekken-like battle, Then a GIGANTIC cutscene (20 minuites at least), then some credits...I finally thought this was it. This was the end. But NO. It slaps me with another cutscene which was like 25 minuites...then it gives me the longest unskippable credit seqence ive seen since assassin's creed (And thats a biblical acheivement, but...not really one to be proud of)...Which is really ironic seeing that you can get an Altair costume. And then...After that...After ALL THAT...I found that it was all in vain - I found out that somehow i had killed 3 people, ruining my chance to get a no-kill file.

GRRRRRRGH.

Lemme go listen to some music, just to feel good about myself again...*sobs in frustration*
So lemme summarise. TOO. MUCH. CINEMATIC. I was bored as hell at some points from the LUDICROUS amounts of cutscenes...

I didn't shed a tear at the end of MGS4 but I was very touched by Big Boss's final speech and his final words, even though I have no idea what he was going on about really.

PS I think that the sound track made it more emotional I still listen to those songs on youtube.

I understand where you're coming from on the amount of cutscenes. I found myself dozing in some of cutscenes during the game. HOWEVER! The ending scenes, I was at full attention. Those were the ones that I was actually paying attention to. I loved every second of it.

Also, the Old Snake song...that really draws on your heart strings.

If you didn't cry at Big Boss' death on The Boss' tombstone, you haven't followed the Series Storyline properly.
