I work with some Brits. Great folk, I like them a lot. I've always wanted to visit, too...

Your government, though...I wish you'd just tell the EU to go stuff itself (cowards they are), and do your own thing...it worked for hundreds of years for you, after all. You also have a lot of weird censorship things going on, it looks like, and restrictions on all sorts of things. I mean, is it true they banned carrying any kind of knife on you?

The people, though...they're great. Your food sucks, however;)
Yes it's true, but the reason they did that is to reduce the amount of knife crime, because as guns aren't allowed, youths started carrying knives for "protection", and at one point I believe there were about 20 murders in 6 months in London alone using knives in the street, all committed by and done to teenagers.

P.S. Fish and Chips > Hotdogs/Cheeseburgers
Duuuuuuuuuude. 20 murders in 6 months is it? Shock! There's like, 20+ murders a day in cities like New York.

Though, before any crazy anti-gun advocates show up, let me state that I am totally pro-gun. Furthermore, research done on why the murder rate is high in the US suggests it's more due to the fact that it's more due to differences in societies, and the way our law enforcement defines homicide, rather than due to guns.
There are probably WAY more murders than that but these murders were being done by like 15 and 16 year olds to other kids of the same age.

Between the music, the women, and the food, I'd say you guys are doing pretty well for yourselves, especially considering your long history. It's a shame you guys are overrun with your Muslim extremists and your bullshit anti-gun laws.

Oh, and after reading a few good military books about the SAS, I have a high respect for your special forces. I'd ever go as far as to rank you with Spetznaz in sheer military "badassery".

Yeah, it's all fine until I'm kept up till all hours of the night by people celebrating here.

I mean, you get your independence, then move here? and still celebrate said independence?
I see how that can be a middle figure every July 4th but not much I can do about it I guess go out side and Blow shit up with them the 4th is really just an excuse to Blow things to kingdom come now a days anyway
I don't think it's a middle finger but they are celebrating independence from Britain, in Britain where they are paying taxes to the British goverment. Bit ironic(i think)

We have, like, three Muslim extremists that we just ignore, and anti-gun laws mean that the general public actually has to, you know, be effective when it comes to self defence. Most people I know who have been mugged have kicked their attacker in the bollocks and then started puching them. Several nicked everything the mugger had as payment for inconveniencing them.

So, actually, we have nothing wrong with our country :p

Also, just to spread the love - you Yanks are awesome :)

Bill Bailey. Don't think you can quote him without someone noticing! :p

I notice a lot of bigoted patriotism in America, but I see an equal amount pound-for-pound here in the UK.

However, American bigotry is slightly more well-informed, if skewed. They at least had American history drilled into their skulls as youths. Our lot? We learn NUFFIN about our Empire, either because it's too "shameful" or because it's too "Complex"

The Germans study WW2! Can you imagine having a lesson where you're told your grandad was the bad guy all along, serving under a mental?

That leaves me wondering which nation would be our mother- The Roman Empire??
Actualy, both governments were birthed under God. So it could very well be The Roman Empire since they're the ones who spread Christianity across the known land (back then.) Though, with thier influence in mind, you could also claim the Roman Empire is the mother to all modern nations.
Except, you know, China and Japan...

Both of which are originally German. (not so sure about the cheeseburger though, but the hotdog is ;D)

Edit: I meant hotdogs/cheeseburgers not fish n chips.
The hamburger was Mongolian, and the cheeseburger derived from the hamburger, of course.

I see Britian as an astounding example of what America might've been...
Really though, Britian's cool with me. I hear the food is very lackluster, though...

Therefore the question I pose to Americans is "How do you see Britain?" Are we a useful aid, merely a small fish looking for protection or an annoying hanger on. Another option I haven't mentioned

Those of other origins can give a view point of what it's like to be an "outsider" if there is even truly something to be outside of.
All I can say that I know about Britain is that everyone drives on the wrong side (both on the road & in the car); instead of saying chips, french fries and eraser they say crisps, chips & rubber; they have the guards that have to stand still no matter what the hell stupid tourist do in front of them; and the most famous thing to come from there is Harry Potter and Monty Python.

But one thing that I highly respect and adore about Britain is the S.A.S., the most elite group of badasses the world has ever seen. (the inspiration for America's own Delta Force, the most elite group of badasses of America and one of the best groups the world has ever seen.)

If I ever had the chance to, yeah, I'd visit. (just hope I don't incur the wrath of the S.A.S.)

As a Brit raised in America, I will always have a special place in my heart for England. Plus America is a shithole.

Speaking from a totally neutral standpoint (I'm swiss) you're just kind of...there. Like Canada. Honestly, you just don't seem that important nowadays. Most people see you as America's little brother, which is ironic, since you birthed America in the first place.
Really, you're the country with great humor, terrible food and a funny accent.
Is this true? The Dutch people I know really see the UK as a major country, and just look at the amount of culture we export.

I've already been spotted ;) The last person got some cookies for getting the reference, so you should too!

And as I said to them, it may be a quote, but he's making a valid point.

I view Britain as just another country. I've been to London, and the only major differences between it and bigger American cities is that the boxed sandwiches are even more terrible than American ones and everyone has a British accent.
