Even the rednecks generally don't have a problem with you guys. That's saying a lot, because they hate most things (I'm not even sure if that's a joke or honesty).

Australia, Canada, and the UK are kind of lumped together as being other (mostly) English-speaking nations that we consider 'friends'. The UK, specifically, is seen as our brother on the world's stage. If anyone tried to bully you (politically or militarily) we would help you out as best as we can (depending on current politicians' agendas). Part of this is because some of us have relatives and friends in different Kingdoms...another reasons are Benny Hill and Monty Python.

Really, England is that cool kid in the playground that everyone doesn't really understand, whilst America is the big kid that everybody judges.

Strange friendship, I suppose.

I'd like to say that Britain is viewed as a valuable ally and a country of great power for its size.

As it is, I think we've become the annoying little guy who leans around from behind the bigger bully, shaking his fist and going "yeaaaaaaah" and "or else!" whenever the bully threatens someone. =[
I love Bill Bailey too :p
Every body loves bill bailey!

I like Britain, and that's not how most Of America thinks of you guys. See during the election liberals like Obama had to put all of the evils on G.W Bush and he cant do that if he plays you guys up as our allies.

What Im saying is he has his head so far up his ass (and the media is helping it stick)that he has no idea how much you guys helped us out in recent past as well as before this war in other wars.

He's pissing on it for political gain
how exactly does pissing on britain help obama?
it makes him look better when he starts to claim how he single handedly won the war in Iraq, his cabinet is already claiming that Obama spurred the revolt in Iran just because they wanted change over there and "Change" was Obamas catchphrase

Hmm if this is completely true, and if it will last the length of Obama's presidency this is actually quite worrying. Because he seems like a generally good person to have in charge (judging from the ideals in his book and that he seems to be actually putting some into action), hopefully though he'll come to his sense once people realise he's quite a bit away from GW Bush.
GW did a 320 billion dollar stimulus plan and the Democrats got all pissy over it because it was too much money. Obama did a TRILLION dollar bailout and everyone went wild in the streets and were praising his heavenly glow, the funny thing is it was so ineffective they are already planning a second multi-trillion dollar bailout.

The first bailout delayed the inevitable and now the government owns the banks AND the major automakers GM= Government Motors

Being of French Descent and having my family arrested and killed by the British Government in the Colony of New France I'm not going to bother to say what I think of the nation. Let us just leave it at it being unpleasant at best.

I think any American that has'nt read his history prolly dislikes Britain. but our foundation starts there. The way tells us to honor those who have come before us, to acknowledge what they have done. Americans take pride in having broken away from Britain, but the founders reasons are not as good as everyone thinks. In the end, we must face the reality of today, and try to be better than we were yesterday. I love Britain. God save the Brits, our friends across the pond. :)

I feel I can give a good opinion here, seeing as I have also read the book (literally weeks before Obama became the President elect, which made me happy), and Obama only had one chapter devoted to foreign affairs, and most of it was to do with Iraq and Afghanistan. If I recall, Britain was one of the only allies mentioned, so it's good.

Most of the book concerns itself with Obama's domestic policies, or at least, domestic aims. He's doing the right thing and focusing on his own country first instead of other ones.

I'm American, know a few british people, and have a very positive view of Britain. The military over there is great. I even said yesterday "Sometimes I think we should've stayed a colony".
I was thinking that a lot after the 2000 "election."

I love the UK but I don't know too much about the politics; one of the reasons I like to watch the news when I'm in the UK. American news is completely worthless, unless you're looking for advertising.

For any American's thinking of going to the UK, i shall forwarn you off-
1) The chavs, and wanna be "gangstas"
2) If you hope British food is as good as other European foods, it is not
3) The weather-it is generally dull, and rainy- and when it is sunny there is still the risk of a rather random downpour
4)Big Brother- I am glad America does not have their own version of this.
5) Getting around London- subway is the only real way of getting round London, and the carriges are insnely cramped- i love the city London, but not getting around it.

btw, if you do visit the UK- i would recomend the Lake District, London, Liverpool (if your beatles fan) Cornwall (espically if you like beaches) Scotish Highlands, Wales.

Due to all this British worship, i should point out that i expect most Brits can be thankful for American things such as

1)Hollywood movies
2)Simpsons, Family Guy etc
3)soaps such as Desperate Housewives and Freinds- i know girls who are obsessed with those sbows
Me personally-
bands such as SOAD, Dream Theatre and Metallica
The Call of Duty games
google and youtube
I should also point out that America is gifted for being a country with such a variety of geography- from crocodile infested swamps in Miami, deserts in Nevada, snowy mountains in places like Montana-kinda cool- but makes it hard to decide, if i was going on holiday to America, where on earth i would visit.

Nice save.

Anyway, to answer the question: it's a nice country that's actually very similar to America, at least from what I had seen over the course of my stay in London. In fact, 95% of the news stories I saw on the TV were the same ones I had seen two week's previous in PA. Were there some differences? Yes, but it wasn't that big of a deal.

I see the U.K. as the guy you have a few big fights with, but then after that we become best friends.

I don't see the U.K. as a "small fish looking for protection" or a "hanger on" as you said. After all, the U.K. used to rule most of the world, from North America to India to China and everywhere in between, they were the big guy back then. And they're still pretty powerful now.
While its nice to hear a America speak well for the UK, I have to disagree with you about the 'powerful' bit, Britain is now a lesser nation as far as I can tell, we did indeed used to own pretty much the world "Sun never sets on the British Empire and such" but that was a LONG time ago, we have faught pretty much the world and won but now we're pathetic, I mean come on! take our National pride, the Royal Navy, we havn't even got Crusiers any more! the last on in existance is the HMS Belfast and thats sitting in London serving as a Muesum ship, plus we have a dangerously low number of ships actually patrolling Britain itself.
Our Armed Forces are very poorly armed, the L85 was crap and even with the lucky soliders with L85A2 the gun is still crap compeared to their American counterparts.
While we have the Eurofighter Typhoon in the RAF, its hardly seeing any combat.
The only good thing left about our military apart from the Typhoon is our Special Forces, the SAS, but even then they aren't numerous enough to make a difference in our military power.

Britain as a Nation has pretty much had it I say, unless we get some really go leadership in the next few years we may as well just ASK America to take control of Britain...
huh, didn't know that. I know that leadership in the U.K. at the moment isn't the best, but I had no idea about its armed forces.
And I hope th U.S. doesn't get control of Britain, sure the military would be better but the average I.Q. of people there will probably shrink due to the stupidity of the influx of tourists.

P.S. Fish and Chips > Hotdogs/Cheeseburgers
Both of which are originally German. (not so sure about the cheeseburger though, but the hotdog is ;D)

Edit: I meant hotdogs/cheeseburgers not fish n chips.
The hamburger was Mongolian, and the cheeseburger derived from the hamburger, of course.
So the Germans are the Hamburglers! Ah hah!

You're one of the more bad-ass countries, really. We only have little cultural things to go on when making fun of you. I suppose we could criticize you for all that brutal imperialism, but you know what they say about glass houses and those who dwell in them.

Not that all of us are that self-aware, mind you.
