Why would anyone read that crap? It's a back patting of a man who, at the time of writing, hadn't accomplished a single thing in his entire life. Don't take it seriously, it's a joke of a book.

Besides, we all know how the man views Britain. See the DVD present to Brown, iPod for the Queen and returning of a gift given to us by the Brits.

All I can say is that London is totally fucking awesome. Queen, fish and chips, Judas Priest, Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, awesome subways, Lucy Pinder, need I say more?

Amsterdam is also cool too because of its... uh Natural Landmarks.
This.
Lucy Pinder and Simon Pegg rock my socks.

I only know Britain from the few who moved to America in my area. They all have been friendly, but I only really talk to them in passing. I want to travel and see all of Europe someday after I get out of college. A friend I know went to Britain and she said she had a great time but to stay out of London. What's up with that?

I like Britain, and that's not how most Of America thinks of you guys. See during the election liberals like Obama had to put all of the evils on G.W Bush and he cant do that if he plays you guys up as our allies.

What Im saying is he has his head so far up his ass (and the media is helping it stick)that he has no idea how much you guys helped us out in recent past as well as before this war in other wars.

He's pissing on it for political gain
Hmm if this is completely true, and if it will last the length of Obama's presidency this is actually quite worrying. Because he seems like a generally good person to have in charge (judging from the ideals in his book and that he seems to be actually putting some into action), hopefully though he'll come to his sense once people realise he's quite a bit away from GW Bush.
Actually, I could probably agree with him at this point. Our Government IS fucked up. It needs a hard reset!

I see Britian as an astounding example of what America might've been...
Really though, Britian's cool with me. I hear the food is very lackluster, though...
Lies...

It's all lies. Our food is great. Sure it's not fancy continental stuff, but it's good honest, filling food. Taste is just an afterthought :p Yorkshire Pudding is truly the meal of the Gods.

OT: It's nice to see love for us, but we're no way as important as we like to think we were. Sure we're useful to America, but as someone else on the thread (a non American) said we're just the country with a good sense of humour and a funny accent to everybody else. That's it.

I still like being British though. We have one of the best trained militaries in the world (shame about the shite equipment) some great cities, beautiful countryside, fantastic people (idiots too, but they're all over the world) and we used to rule most of the world... Thats something to be proud of... isn't it?
Agreed. ^^

Hmmm. I never realized that we were thought to have bad teeth. I don't know anyone who has REALLY bad teeth. Just kinda... average.

I'm from the Netherlands, and I love the UK.
If I had to choose between the US and the UK, I'd choose the UK.
Almost anyone in Europe will choose the same. Me, when I've left school and got a degree, I'm moving to New Zealand.

I have a positive view of the UK. I believe that the UK is a very important American ally, and they're pretty awesome to boot. I have more respect for the British SAS than I have for our own special forces, Delta Force as well.

England has some icky food and the weather's pretty depressing... yet somehow it made Charlie and Lola, the most wonderous TV show ever! They also have funny quiz coms, the cutest words ever and great graphic design. And Stephen Fry. He's good too.

Pretty much they're an adorable, sarcastic country with lots of clouds. :D

I see Britain as another spot on the map.

Maybe it's different in politics, and they actually have to know the good and bad side to every single country, but the average American could care less. We may like British people in general, might want to visit the island eventually, but we don't know or really care to know anything about the foreign policy aspect of our relationship.

Britain is one of our if not the closest ally that the United States has. Sure we've had our differences over the years but I feel from a practical stand point Britain is probably one of the allies we cannot afford to lose.

You're those guys who talk funny, drink tea, and gave us the Beatles. Ha ha.

Now excuse me while I go back to talking dumbly, drinking Frappuccinos and listening to.... um..... some shitty rock band from America you don't like.

Well other nationalities can reply if they so choose

After reading the "Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama the one thing that surprised me was that Britain was only mentioned individually once. The reason for this surprise is that both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown both claim to have created/concreted a special relationship with American through a sharing of ideals etc. with the president. So I would have expected that when Obama mentioned in his book about allies Britain (considering that Mr. Blair entered into Iraq fairly close behind G.W.Bush) would appear more often, however it would appear the relationship is a lot less special to a Senator (as Obama was when he was writing this)

Therefore the question I pose to Americans is "How do you see Britain?" Are we a useful aid, merely a small fish looking for protection or an annoying hanger on. Another option I haven't mentioned

Those of other origins can give a view point of what it's like to be an "outsider" if there is even truly something to be outside of.
To be honest, I am deeply offended by the way Barack Obama has treated the British. He seems to be of the opinion that the British(one of our closest allies) are nothing more than another subject of the world to be treated exactly the same way someone like the President of Iran should be treated. His first meeting with Mr. Brown(Prime Minister, I believe) was horrifying to me. He gave him 25 DvDs in exchange for a pen set made from an artifact of a ship! Not only that, but he gave the Queen a freakin iPod with all of his bloody speeches in it! The man is a narcissist and a moron.

I, personally, believe that Britain is our closest ally. Yes, we've had our differences in the past, but we're basically cousins. I absolutely abhor the way President Obama has treated the good people of Britain and am sorry to anyone that has taken offense at his boorish mockery of diplomacy.

americans generally dont care about much of the world that deosnt bother them Physically or could harm them. (i.e. we are worried about Iraq, Iran, North Korea etc. but are not worried about England, Australia, etc.) Most americans have good opinions about Britain, and all the UK for a matter of fact, but the people that do have bad opinions are the ones mostly heard (excluding obama cause he probably does have a good opinion on Britain but just doesn't show it, Probably is the key word.).

hell i would love to visit Great Britain. Some of the best music, art and history came from there.

Some one said earlier that america is rich... Yea only about 1 person out of every 2000 is... only celebrities, Business owners/CEO and Politicians are rich, the rest are in an economical depression basically. or atleast everone in hell (kansas) is.

basically we see you as a useful aid and a close ally but probably don't give you enough credit.

I would figure that Britain and America are in the same boat. Of course, what would I know? Im just a normal citizen and apparently, only the people who have lots of money have opinions that count.

No, those people are still rich. Even the poorest people in America are rich. My income is way below what's considered average and even I am in the top 14% of the world population.

Anyway, England is part of the UK, Great Britain is the island itself and sometimes the UK is called Britain. I hate it when people use England and Britain as synonyms. Britain, or the UK, includes Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and England. England is just England.

An Ipod of all his speeches, isn't that just the tiniest bit arrogant. After reading most of the replies on this thread the thing I'm most proud of is the average (assuming the escapist Americans are average, well your on here so you infinitely better then anyone not) American thinks quite fondly of us in the British Isles, which is very reassuring.
