I usually watch mid-common anime like Bleach, Soul Eater, Naruto, Trigun, Full Metal Alchemist and Metalocalypse.
Metalocalypse isn't an anime, and I contest the mid-common classification for Bleach, and outright reject it for Naruto.
Bah. Picky, aren't we?
I'll admit mild pickyness with the Naruto and Bleach parts, but I have no idea how you considered Metalocalypse an anime. Avatar The Last Airbender I can understand, but Metalocalypse doesn't resemble anime beyond being animated.

Disclaimer: If anyone somehow thought this, no, I'm not criticizing Metalocalypse for not being an anime.
This all depends on your definition of Anime, which most would say no. That's including me :p. Also I too reject Naruto I for one found it *braces for upcoming hate* awful.
You are not going to get any flame whatsoever for hating Naruto, it's actually the cool thing to do among anime fans and haters. Dislike of that anime is by no means controversial.

It's called Lain. Made and set in the '90s, it was Haruhi Suzumiya before Haruhi Suzumiya (young girl discovers she's god, yadda yadda).

Lain wasn't God it explains Lain as several things (an omnipresent being part of the wired, or a program used by masami eiri) but never God actually at the end of the anime Lain explains the existence of God to Masami Eiri and then fades out of existence by erasing the memory of her from everyone and becoming nothing to the people in the real world...

I dare anyone to say they've seen all the episodes of kochikame. I tried and failed... 30 years is a long time to watch something.

Slayers. Of course, the only other anime I've seen are various Miyazaki films and *sigh* Death Note and Naruto, so this probably isn't saying much.

I have to go with this too. Most of your time watching Lain is spent wondering what the fuck.

Still, one hell of a show.

FLCL! Also, I liked Paranioa Agent a lot. Honestly I think most of the anime I watch would be considered obscure by these standards. The mainstream stuff usually bores me to death (I did like Dragon Ball, but not so much DBZ)

i cant remember it's name and i cant be arsed to walk upstairs and find out but it's some messed up shit in which the demon world, beast world and human world all collide and as usual theres a lot of tentacle rape. best watched with a lot of alcohol...
That my friend is Urotsokidouji, better known in the west as Legend of the Overfiend. It's actually one of the better and more interesting animes from the 80's/90's if you can manage to look past all the tentacle rape and whatnot and it was also influential in introducing anime as a whole to the western world.

Off the top of my head I would have to say FLCL or.....Slayers.
Probably on the lighter side of obscurity, but undoubtedly strange.

(In a similar vein, most obscure manga would go to Young Saint Men)

Not sure which of these would be obscure, so I'll just list the ones I know

Martian Successor Nadesco
Those Who Hunt Elves
Some episodes of Guren Lagan
Some episodes of S-CRY-ED
An episode or two of Mai-Otome

Was gonna list Utena, but I doubt that it's that obscure.
I think guren lagan is rather obscure.

i've seen a some episodes from a number of anime who's names elude me. my friend is a mega ataku.

You get a +1 for mentioning Gintama right there....although I'm not really sure what "+1" as a whole means. Plus Bo-Bo-Bo is INSANE! It makes Gintama look like a political talk show.
