I never had faith in humanity. Were all dick heads even myself. I say we all shoot our selves in the head and watch the apes evolve and see how they do. I'm sure they will do a much better job than we did oh but wait we can't watch the apes evolve because global warmings going to kill them before they get a chance. Well i guess we fucked another thing up. What would restore my faith in humanity? Not much. I guess if i died saw the light stop believing in science and start believing in god then i guess my faith in humanity would be restored because why would god create a race thats only going to fuck every thing up but intill i start believing in god then were all just the results of a lot of really lucky accedents. Sorrey if i affended any christians or made any one sad or angry.

Anything short of the great purge will not restore my faith.
But love would restore my faith in my own life.

Lost faith in... huh? I don't think I'm reading this right, lost faith in their ability to do what exactly? "Promote progress, enhance one another's lives, do good for the sake of doing good," and the like? I wouldn't count on those from humans for the same reason I wouldn't count on active volcanoes to prevent forest fires, it's not exactly their thing, I think. I do, however, have full faith (not belief, mind you, faith) in man's ability to fuck things up, "the one thing we truly excel at." Good thing, too. Think about it; animals seem to do what they should, nature does it's own thing, (even "disasters") I'm pretty sure only humans do things they probably shouldn't, if you see what I'm saying.

In other words, if we didn't make a mess of things, what would? Would we even know what a mess was, would we ever learn anything beyond unchanging coexistance? It makes me think of the Eloi out of The Time Machine, blissfuly unaware of any problems there may be, indifferent to the occasional Morlock kidnapping. Even if there were no problems at all, would we even realize that things were golden? If there's nothing "bad" in the world, I don't think "good" things could be recognized either. I don't think there's a reason to "lose faith" in fire's ability to burn things. In my eyes, that's looking on the bright side.

I've never lost it. I tend to focus on the big, shiny, positive things, or the smaller, more personal things. For example:

Big, shiny, positive thing. We've had the capability to pretty much eradicate all human life for something like 50 years now, yet we haven't launched all of the nukes just yet. To me, that seems like a vote in favour of humanity.

Smaller, more personal thing. I love my girlfriend. I love her so much. seeing her makes me feel good about myself and about life. She's just so fun and amazing. When I'm with her, life just seems that much better, y'know?

Anyway, that got kinda off track, but they're just two little ways that I can still find some good in humanity.

The only thing that could make me lose my faith in humanity would be an apocalypse brought on through human actions. But even then I might only lose my faith in governments rather than the entirety of humanity. It would take a lot for me to lose my faith in humanity. Unlike other people, it's not a term I throw around lightly.

So it's hard for me to answer this question given I can't imagine losing my faith in the first place.
Pretty much what he said.

As for an action that would restore faith? Putting humans on Mars. Because damn that would just be amazing.

Well, I don't believe people are intrinsically good, and very few try to be altruistic even in the simplest sense. It's the natural instinct for greed and the unbelievable ignorance that abounds that really makes me question my faith in humanity.

That being said, people are entitled to their opinions, unfortunately some are bigots with influence.

Biased media outlets also really rubs me up the wrong way, and they all are. All have their own bloody agenda, and it sickens me. What content to use, how to spin it, all this moral high-ground bullshit.

..and yet I want to be a journalist.

Finally a new GTA game in 2011 set in Vice City that sustains the narrative style and driving physics of GTA IV.
As long as the Vice City cars have suspension better suited to a car than the box-spring mattresses I was clearly using in GTA IV.

I find it hard to tell if I've got faith in humanity or not.
On one hand I don't care about it advancing particularly, and don't see it as united at all.
But on the other, my faith in terms of individual humans is immense.

The whole "people are stupid" thing is ridiculous in my opinion. That's an absurd generalization.
Every human is unique. Some are smarter then others, some are stronger then others, some have different goals to others.
And all are fascinating.

I love people, and I don't see this perspective ever changing really.

humanity's been fucked from the beginning. throughout history, it has only become less or more fucked, but always fucked. nothing can change that, so nothing can restore anyone's faith in it.

The story of the trapped Chillian miners was nearly enough to restore my faith in humanity. Then we canceled the space shuttle and everything fell back down a few pegs.

What would it take?

Humanity to rise up as one and overthrow the corrupt governments of the world, that or every country passing legislation that if any politician caught in a lie would be executed on the spot, or both.

If I had lost my faith in humanity, it would take a huge thing to make up for it. SO let's talk about anonymous right, you know the morons who think that free-speech is actually a thing and hide behind the false anonymity from the internet yet still get caught. Well let's talk about them being douche bags to a lot of people and making death threats and the such. To restore my faith in humanity after that would either the jester who is attacking these douche bags or some sort of cure for a bad thing like cancer/aids/all STDs.
Wait, wut?

My faith in humanity will be restored when i start seeing less hypocrisy, when the human race starts to be more accepting and tolerant, scratch that last one, my faith will be restored when I see at most half a country become just a little bit more accepting and tolerant (really people, y is this so hard). Everyone should strive to make this world a better place, we should all try to stop hating.

I actually thought this was a serious topic until I read the opening post.

But to answer the question, more kids need to be beat by their parents, and more parents need some goddamn sense. Hell, everyone needs some more goddamn sense. I guarantee the world will be a better place then.

What is it that is meant by the phrase "faith in humanity"? Is it similar to "faith that most people have viewpoints similar to mine and will take action to support those viewpoints"?
The way people seem to lose their faith so quickly, I think you're right.

I will never lose faith in humanity itself.

I have very little faith in governments and groups, but humans, individually, can be wonderful creatures. We're not saints, but few of us are utter and complete monsters; we're flawed, but not irredeemably so.

I see articles about how we eradicate diseases and shoot people into space, and occasionally read fluff-pieces about how some granny beat the shit out of robbers with her cane, or about that kid in Africa who built a working electricity-generating windmill out of a damn toaster, and I think, that for all the horrific things that can happen, there's more awesome things happening. Of course the awesome things don't quite overshadow them--but they're worth taking note of, and worth standing back to examine in awe.

It's a dark place to live in, this world, and the dark may be full of monsters, but there are always stars somewhere, just waiting to come out. And the stars in the dark are beautiful because they stand out so much. Same's true of humanity, I suppose.
