suck it up mate I was in a similar position to the one you found yourself in but I didn't let the basterds kick me while i was down. I got up, put up with all thier BS, made some friends, and went on with my life and graduated. You should either re-enroll in highschool or got college and get yourself an education

Julian, get your ass back to school or I'll come over there and kick it.

It's not worth it. I know people that have dropped out, the only ones that really made the right choice are those who simply aren't school oriented and do badly in class. I have the feeling you're not like them, go back.
Hey, I'm coming to Chicago in a few weeks, so you won't come down here :D

Seriously though, I am going to college, so I'm not just completely quitting school altogether.
Well that's good!

When are you coming to Chicago, I hope I'll be back in the states by then.
You live in Chicago?
I live near Chicago :D.
ZOMG

We're planing a Chicago Escapism. Probably to a Bulls game sometime next year. You should, like, come. Like.
I'll have to investigate.
But I might, like, be, like, at school, like, in a different state.
Dude.

You left school?!?! I can't believe that!!
Indeed I did. Is it that surprising?
Quite, yes. But in a good way. I just didn't expect that.
I'll take that as a compliment then :D

Also, you got probation because of that?

Considering the teachers were doing the majority of the bullying, I doubt that would have helped at all.

In my school I never really noticed any explicit bullying. People usually just stuck to their group of friends and went with "live and let live". The teachers were (for the most part) really nice as well. I find it strange that this is such an issue with other people.

Can I get an example of how a teacher may have bullied you? We had teachers tease kids sometimes but only when everyone knew it was all in good fun, the same way friends mess with each other.

I stopped going to school this past October due to my depression. I'm probably going back next year though. I never got bullied or put down, my problems are entirely my state of mind.

I was told I could do anything I wanted when I grew up. I'm of above average intelligence (very booksmart) and above average athleticism. I was told I had so many options it wasn't even funny.

I don't want to work for my entire life and be miserable. Working sucks. School sucks. It didn't matter how good I am at about everything I try. Now, I'm not trying to say I'm some super person, but a lot of things came very easy to me. I rejected that. I didn't want options. I wanted to be alone. I wanted to stay at home and play videogames and surf the net. It's what makes me happy.

Unfortunately for me, our society doesn't work that way. You have to do something. You have to have a plan. I don't have a plan. I don't have a purpose. There isn't anything I want to do, but I'm forced to do something. Me dropping out has absolutely nothing to do with any experiences I've had during my 13 years as a student. it's the future that I'm afraid of. Once school is done, then what? I'm still struggling for answers.

And don't even get me started on my family troubles. No, it definitely wasn't the right choice. I'm way behind in life, and it isn't gonna get any easier from here. But it's my fault completely, and I'm trying to deal with it.

When i was 16 had to drop out and start working,my mom was arrested and sentenced to a couple years in the booty house i didn't want to enter social services again so my sister went to live with my aunt and our landlord worked something out with me(good man he really helped me a lot and i will forever be grateful)I don't regret what happened its the reason i am the way i am today I'm 23 and finally getting to attend college to learn about something i am passionate about and am determined to achieve my goals on some level.I never wanted to drop out and I cant say i sympathize for your reasons but you gotta do what you gotta do and take responsibility for all of your actions.

A teacher outright called me an idiot, another shoved me into a locker because I accidentally stepped on her shoe and one told me I was the worst student he had ever had and when I began to tear up, he began laughing he said "You're crying you little shit? Just get the hell out of my class and go cry to your mommy you little pussy!"

A fucking teacher said that to me.

That was the day I left and when I told the principal, he said that I was lying and said I'd be suspended for telling such lies.

I managed to pull through Secondary/High School despite my obvious nerdiness and appearance, although the experience left me with mental scars, zero confidence and crippling lonliness and the aliennation I felt while going through it was horrible.
I fought back a few times and I was put into anger management which worked a little to well (I was squirted with supersoakers once and I felt no anger just sadness) but anger management was the best part because it got me away from PE, the group I was in didnt know me and the person who sorted it all out Ms. Fewings (I love that lady, she is basicly the perfect Mum).

During my year of optional 6th Form I completly changed myself and conformed so I would not be picked out. I changed my hairstyle, started wearing contact lenses and started talking back to the people who put me down and fought back both mentally and physically. Giving up wasnt an option so I managed to pull through. I feel sorry for the people who gave abuse are now working at a local fast food chain or a video game shop while im working to become an Engineer of some description.

Eitherway I think anybody who hasnt got a Secondary School Education should go and do night classes, everbody who is there wants to learn and do well.

You should go get your high school diploma. I don't give a shit about anyone's high school education, but the people that haven't been to a school in decades seem to think that you're learning stuff in there and they probably won't take you seriously without a diploma. It also happens that these are the kinds of people that have all the power in our society.

I dropped out of college, not because I was being bullied but because of the stress of it. I was living with my Dad (stressful in itself), my relationship with my high school sweetheart had grown stale and was dying (also stressful) and, I was failing my classes which, while normal in high school, was made extremely stressful because I had to pay for those classes. It got to be too much at one point. I broke up with my GF, I stopped going to classes (except for two which I rode out until the end of the semester) and eventually left Dad's house but that came later.

I didn't want to go to college in the first place but was heavily pressured by my then GF. I don't begrudge her, she had my best interest at heart but, it just didn't pan out and was something I had never seriously planned on going to begin with. I may go back to college but I have no idea what I would go for. What I want to do with myself. I have no idea and would rather not throw money away blindly. Even though getting a bachelor's degree would (supposedly) enable me to find better paying work.

I dunno. I am pleased to have made it through High School on the first try. That seemed like enough to me.

Why the decision to drop out, rather than change schools?

My math teacher is indian and does NOT take shit. If you ask stupid questions then he'll insult you in some vague abstract yet applicable way, and then send you to the office. He is THE BEST teacher ever. Seriously.

What the fuck? Seriously?

My teachers might do something like

Kid: "The answer is choice F"

Teacher: "You mean like what you're getting in my class"

Everyone: *Laughs at the funny joke because we all know its just a joke*

but nothing at all like you described.

Damn that's messed up.

I'd reckon I'm approximately the second most nerdy guy at my high school, yet I've never been bullied. What am I missing out on?
How obviously nerdy are you?
I'm fairly nerdy but you probably wouldn't guess if you looked at me.
Yep, I can easily confirm that(I'm talking about your looks-and looks in general- being deceiving, if correlated with the human mind)

I dropped out last year, but I still did the exams, and did very well at them. I'll be off to college soon. I think it was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. If I had stayed in school, I would have failed my exams, no question.

I just don't take schooling well. I got bullied a lot, by teachers and students alike, and I hated school intensely. Like I said, leaving was the best thing I could have done, and I don't regret it for a second.
Wait, wait, wait, wow, wow, wow... I think I've been using the term "drop out" with a different meaning(I'm not totally familiarised with all the English terms and definitions, just yet).
You mean drop out=not attending classes? Because I though that was called skipping class.
I always figured that to "drop out" at something means to fail/cease to finish something... I think I may be tying my tongue in a knot here...
If you "drop out", doesn't that mean that you just don't finish school/college?
Because what I get from what you said is that you just skipped all classes of senior year(or something like that), considering you took your final exams you may have graduated(and ergo passed/not "dropped out"?)
Because if you guys are talking about not attending class, well in my senior year I doubt I was half of the time at school(I had better things to do, such as to learn at the subjects I was going to be examined upon; I didn't have any time for French, Economics, or those other things that proved useless to me)
Anyway, I feel that if I rant more, I'll just disappear out of existence because of all the dumb/illogic things i may have say(it's late and way past my "bed time")

Julianking93 said:
Hey didn't you make a thread a wile back asking if you did the right thing about dropping out(as in a few years ago when I was lurking this place)?
OT: In my book, as long as you pursue higher academical knowledge, there's nothing wrong about how you obtain your goal. The only funny thing is that if school is free(where I live it is), and offers help in learning, turning it's offer down is just not such a smart move.
Oh and about being bullied: what if you get bullied in college, or at work(it's less probable, but still might happen)?
You always gotta face your problems(when I was bullied I unleashed the "beast within"... although considering I'm somewhat a basket case, I just freaked my opponents back into retreat)

Personally I am actually better off at this time from having dropped out of highschool. I had much the same problem as the OP and it actually pushed me towards a mental breakdown. If I had of returned to finish my second semester of year 11 (Australian schooling standards) I would have ended up going through a major breakdown and caused harm to myself or others.

To give a bit of background I was the one to tease from Year 4 through till I left school and the teachers would do jack all about it. Now being not able to afford private school prices with where I lived it was the only Highschool I could actually go to (at the time to only other public highschool was 4 towns over and to get there i had to go 2 towns over and catch a bus to get there)[As a side in our shire (about 8 towns) we have 4 public highschools to about 10 private highschools]. As long as you try and actually make something of your life I belive highschool and college should have no bearing on what you should or shouldn't be able to do.
