User 1, I'm guessing, was suspended for posting a giant chan target on the site, and doing it in the wrong place (gaming =/= offtopic). User 2 should probably get some wrath - if it bothers you, report it.

Don't know if the mods are still watching this thread, but I have a complaint. This [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.121451?page=1] user apparently was suspended for that post for too little content. But this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.121445] user has not been punished yet, when it has no topic at all. What is that, I mean suspension for that while the second guy (As of this writing) is not punished. Not to be whiny, I'm just confused.
I'm surprised the second fellow is unpunished at the moment, but it's important to remember about the first post you linked to that 4chan discussion topics are (usually) not encouraged around here. They're not very kind to the website (they tend to turn into "hate 4chan" threads) or anyone who visits there, and they've been known to cause/provoke raids (by a group that will go unnamed) every now and again (or at least once). Considering the amount of mod work that can generate (did generate, anyway), the only surprise here is the severity of the punishment in this case. But I'm not disputing that. Also, boredom is a pretty bad reason to make a topic. Just saying.

I don't know the true reason he was suspended, of course, but I'd guess it has something to do with not wanting to repeat history any time soon.

We've upgraded Empyrean's ban to a permanent one. Because the personalized "fuck-yous" in her tirade also turned out to contain porn links. Moderator consensus is that this is real classy.

I noticed that. Glad you acted quickly.

I have been to many forums and have experienced ones with no mods, with mods, mods with no power, mods with power, easily influenced mods, etc. I have come to see this place as pretty well managed place. It's not perfect because no forum is perfect when you have hundreds if not thousands of people writing their thoughts for the world to see. It's hard to keep things sane when the population gets bigger than the creators of a site guessed what their forum population will be.

I like that this thread has actually changed mods in some way. Now we get info why people banned/suspended/warned. This place is also the least moderated run forum I have been at. I have been at one forum that mods would ban people and then delete every thread or go through threads and delete their posts and that's horrible abuse. I have been at forums that instigated trolling and those that did not react to trolls would get banned, been at forums where moderators real lives interfered with moderating duties so much that forums developed into shouting/screaming/cursing matches.

This place is all right. I'm sorry if my grammar problems makes this post unreadable. I'm trying to change my ways albeit slowly.

You're reading too much into it, and it seems you care that he used the word 'christian' because you are one. Again, don't take anything I'm saying the wrong way.
I'm not Christian, but he's certainly offended me enough to earn my considerable ire.

Yeah, the Mobius thing...frankly, I thought it was meant to be a rather good piece of irony.

P.S Oh, Cheeze is still with us. Excellent. I've been away for a while, so I was wondering if he'd bit the bullet.
Yup--still here. Fortunately I figured out just in time not to let Darth troll me into anything worse than some light snarking and to trust in the moderation system again to deal with people like him.
I recall when you had a gargantuan argument over....was it the fact Darth has children at a rather young age? Yes, I believe it was. That was amusing. So much shit thrown about you'd think it was a monkey cage. But in defence of both, it was legible, well-presented shit. Well, I must say I'm glad to see a pleasing number our twisted little International Brigade still remain on this forum.

Did anyone report him? If you guys think we see every single post that goes live, you're dreaming. If you want action to be taken, you have to point us in the right direction. I can't put it any more simply than that.

This, clearly, is a low content (and, dare I say, god-awful stupid) post and the user has been disciplined appropriately. Thank you for calling it to our attention.

Yeah, he jumped into a discussion that had degenerated into people getting nasty because they didn't like the fact that I was pointing out flaws in their arguments in order to play some kind of 'life experience' card he thinks he has--to sum up our exchange in succinct and civil terms, my point was that the person who knows more about parenting is the person who, when confronted with the opportunity to mate with an evil psycho, makes the decision much like Joshua in WarGames: Not to Play.

I will maintain my studious neutrality and simply restate my original position: I'm glad that you are still with us, Cheeze.

Max was banned for being a massive jerk.
Also for posting way too fucking much.

And a note: Cheeze, I never got all the hate against you. You always struck me as a perfectly rational fellow. I've seen you get a little huffy, but not nearly as much or as bad as some other members of this forum.
My only problem with Cheeze is something he actually put into words perfectly: He mentioned that he's something like an argument vampire, sucking the energy out of the opposing party.

And that's what it feels like, sometimes.
Also he's not much for silliness, which is, as always, my forte.
Hmmmm, I saw a few of Cheeze's posts and decided from those that he was a bit of a jerk, since they were generally troll posts. However, my opinion on him changed when I saw that in fact most of his posts are relatively acceptable here and contributed fairly to discussion. Kukul I don't like much because his posts, though occasionally alright, too often stray into trolling territory, and I wasn't here for long before Eggo was banned, so I'm unaware of most of his stuff. Though I looked up his banning post, merely a "Lol what?", and I've heard enough about him to feel that his permaban was justified.

Either way something has to be done or it's not going to be pretty.
I think something is being done. Lots of threads do have notes explaining moderation.

That said, there is such a thing as too much information. Making a user's entire ban/probation history public, for example. A short-and-sweet explanation is in order, but I don't think "transparency" should mean letting everyone indulge their drama-voyeurism.

-- Alex
Well, I have to say that I agree with that reasoning. However, I guess you could simply put a little message saying "This user was warned several times and failed to listen", or something. No details, but a short sentence just saying that whoever was banned had already been warned. Then we avoid 'Necroswanson' and 'Mobius' situations, right?

EDIT: Ooooh, double post, really sorry for that. I assumed people would have already posted after me by now.

Well I reported him, it's just that I was surprised that he didn't get any punishment when many reported him (Hopefully), and his topic somehow got to two pages without getting noticed.

But thank you Susan for helping.
In my experience, many people complain, *****, and moan, but few actually report. Again, complaining in threads is not nearly as effective as just hitting the report button or PMing a moderator directly.

For Eggo's case, if you don't agree with him, you're wrong. Though the guy certainly knows computer hardware. Even had me frothing at the mouth using the pictures of his rig set-up. Damn that sounded sooooo dirty...

It does seem that way, I can fall guilty of that sometimes as well. But would you recommend PM or just clicking report, is there a sizeable difference?
At the sake of saving the mod's sanity (and inboxes), please click the report button. It just takes two reports of a post for the post to show up in the mod queue. That's it: two. Everyone assumes that someone else has reported it and thus stuff gets past us.

That said, if one of us is in IRC, feel free to shoot us an IM. We'll look into it.

Mods, if one regards a thread to be important, would you consider it acceptable for a poster to hit the report button, refresh the page and then hit it again?

Please, no. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure that would even work.
