I'm not tripping about the game itself. I'm tripping over the fact that he looks like fucking Adam Lambert with no makeup.

If the game itself still plays like a DMC game should (I don't even know what that means o__O'), while I may not accept the "new" Dante as the one I know and love, I'll probably still play the game and take it for what it is: a balls out action game with a seemingly insane and suicidal undead demon child thing smacking around other various undead demon child things.
Bahahahah!! I love your analogy of Dante's new look! xD

But, as I see it, Dante and the original DMC's are gone. And I will mourn them greatly, but room must be made to accept this new game with a similar title and similar named character. He will never be our beloved Dante, but no one can deny that he isn't a bad ass, especially from the trailer.

He looks like a Heroine addict which is simply not cool. I'm not particularly attached to the original design of Dante I just think this design is much worse.

I'm not a fan of the series by any means, but this emo remake trend has to stop somewhere, and Dante went from looking alright for a japanese character to a full-blown retarded looking moron.

The OP says not to knock it until the game comes out. Well, I say the exact opposite. If you prefer the old Dante, then ***** and moan as loud and as often as you can, because as the recent InFamous 2 debacle showed us, fans can indeed make themselves heard.

My two cents.

I personally think the new look is awesome. I really hope they don't change it back like the people making Infamous 2 did.
Dang, you ninja'd my example.

I was going to say, if the backlash is super bad, they might rethink it. But at the same time, it might just stay the same and change things up a little to add some flavor to the mix

It's not that i dislike the new look because i do think he looks quite cool. It's just that it isn't Dante. Dante is an iconic character recognised globally for his white hair, his long red coat and cocky attitude and to change all that and turn him into some gritty emo kid is quite insulting. Reboot or not they should keep some of the things that make him the character he is, they could have at the very least kept his white hair. I'm just going to wait for the game now i've bitched about it already so now i'm just going to wait for its release and see how it turns out.

The problem is that Dante's look is iconic, and the change just shows how dead the series really is. While it's usually great to innovate, this is just showing what a holding pattern the series is until it finally runs out of fuel and crashes into a orphanage.

It's still being developed by Ninja Theory.

Wich means it's going to suck regardless of Dante's image.
They have only made one game though, so no one knows how shit or good the game will be. It's still to be decided. Plus; I kind of liked Heavenly Sword. Mostly for the storyline, since every hack-and-slash game is pretty similar.
The characters were fun, but that was the only interesting thing about it. The gameplay and combat were terrible and after having played the Enslaved demo I can safely say that it doesn't fare much better. It might even be worse than Heavenly Sword.

I'm not a fan of DMC myself, but DMC as a franchise has always had very sharp combat controls. And the controls in Heavenly Sword and Enslaved were clunky has hell. I might be overly pessimistic about this, but I really don't see Ninja Theory delivering a hack 'n slasher that is up to par with the previous DMC's.

Well, it COULD be a prequel, to when he was much younger than DMC3. I mean, he IS half-Demon, and normal aging rules don't apply most times to demons and half demons, so no one knows his true age in DMC3. He could one day turn into that, who knows?

EDIT: I read even that his hair already has white in it, that it could become whiter as he ages and embraces more of his demonic heritage.

Oh, I have no doubt about the gameplay never being up to par, but they may bring in some skilled people, or hopefully do much better. No one knows quite yet. I do like to see how they muck with the morphing sword... hopefully not having to hold down a button to change it... that'd be dumb... *coughheavenlyswordcough*

Yeah his hair has a white patch on the back that makes him resemble a skunk in the trailer i did notice it so i'm hoping it changes throughout the game. And yes apparently it is another prequel but it's too early to know anything.

To be honest, if it were a prequel, I wouldn't mind anything too much, because it just means it is our Dante but as a young rebellious kid, yet to embrace who he is. Hell, looking at the original Dante you can tell he used to be a little punk bastard as a kid.

And until I have played the game I refuse to ***** and whine and beg for the old Dante back, because I have seen people do this only to look like idiots when they enjoy the game. This is one of the major problems with game companies releasing information about new game sequels before they come out. Fans will take any little thing that is slightly different from the original and just ***** on the internet about it until the cows come home. Like when Bioware said that Dragon Age would be a little different from the first the Escapist forums just went insane with pre-release bitching. Honestly, it's a waste of time to worry about this, until you've seen a final product you've got no right to complain about anything. Well, you can complain, but these flame-heavy posts about the tiniest changes in games have to stop.

If anyone complains about a new game changing something about its precursor, ask yourself this: Are you one of those people who, any other day, complains that innovation is lacking in the games industry? If so, you need to get a mirror and take a good, hard look. Then smash yourself in the head with it (this step is not required but damn would it make me feel better).

Oh right, Devil May Cry. I wasn't exactly happy about the fourth one, so I'm hoping that they might change things up a little.

Ha, a conversation with my brother today, who is NOT a DMC fan, but has watched me play it a few times, so he gets the general gist of what it's about:

Me: Oh, have you seen the trailer for the new DMC?
Brother: Nope
Me: *starts playing DmC trailer*
Brother: So...this is some psycho-analysis thing?
Me: I guess so
Brother: What are those? Robots or something?
Me: I think they're supposed to be the scarecrows of the previous games
Brother: Okay...what happened to the architecture? It's all...crap-like. I thought DMC was all Gothic and stuff
Me: Yeah, they changed it I guess
Brother: Dante...wait, THAT'S Dante? That can't be right.
Me: Yeah, that's him.
Brother: ...huh.
*trailer finishes*
Brother: So...that's not DMC. Why didn't they just make this a new IP?

To clarify: for a lot of fans, it's not simply just a case of not liking 'Dante's hair being black instead of white'. It's that everything that made up the DMC series seems to be missing, I guess the only relation is that there's a guy who calls himself Dante and fights with two guns. Fans weren't clamouring for a complete reboot of the series, it seems pretty random to do it to one of their more established franchises. If you want something 'new' and 'fresh', and are going to change everything, why not just make this a new IP? The fact that the name 'DMC' has been slapped on this game just seems like some sort of cash-in on the title alone.

THAT SAID, of course I will be playing this game, I'd be a bit silly not to. If they get the combat down like the previous titles, it'll be a great game. A great game, just not DMC.

One of the things that annoyed me most about the trailer was the bit where he was chained up.. as if chains could hold him. I did like the weapon featured in the trailer, Its a spear then it changes to a poleaxe then a whip kind of thing it looks like it could be fun to use, and if it is a prequel then he may even get Rebellion later on in the game. There has been people thinking that this may all be set before he even knows he is Sparda's son and so if it is hopefully it's all going to be explained in the game. I guess the thing that's worrying me the most is that it's not being developed by Capcom i have never been a fan of Ninja Theory's games and so i'm worried that they may fuck up the gameplay, especially the combat.

It is being developed by Capcom, just a different company, or whatever.

And yeah, I am loving the weapon. :D

I just have a problem with remakes but it sells so I just have to put up with it and buy it used if it's still fun. Would have preferred a new franchise since they just ditched the established story.

Hey, DMC fans. I have played the first three, so I guess I could sorta call myself one.

Calm down eh? If I, a huge Metroid fan, could play Metroid Prime when it came out and actually found it to be awesome. Even though the game was really changed from what they were, and yes, I know this is a different kind of change, then you guys can too with this.

Also, if I can get over what Other M did, you can handle this. I mean, this franchise is young compared to Metroid, but wait until this game is out before complete judgment? Remember Fallout 3, how all (Maybe not all, but a lot.) the fans were acting as though this was the end and it would be crap but a lot of them changed their tune when they got to play it.

Reboots, retcons or what ever you call them happen, it's just the way things go. This could take the series in a direction that works out just as good, perhaps better?
