Today At My School Someone Lit Themselves On Fire.

A friend of mine who saw the event said that her class was interrupted by screaming that wouldn't stop, and they looked out into the hall and saw a student on fire with black smoke going everywhere.
She said that she saw his bones and skin melting and dripping on the floor.
They said it was a chemical fire, and it would have been impossible for it to have occurred accidentally.
The kid was taken to a burn center, and I heard he lost his arm and they don't know if he will live.

While the school was on lockdown for 2 hours, the cops found a kid that had a GRENADE, who was completely unrelated to the kid on fire.

No one at this school ever smiled again.

But for discussion value, what is a crazy/dangerous event to happen at your school?
Has anyone ever brought a FIREARM1 to school?

EDIT: also, once in the boys locker room there was a horrible smell of semen and a rock hard sock in the corner...

OT: At my old school, the worst that happened was someone got thrown through a window (It was a ground floor one, so not too much harm done) Oh, and someone once got a caution from the police for attacking someone with an umbrella.

People smoke outside the front door. Someone got shot once, in the leg (with a shotgun made for hunting birds). I think the guy intended to kill, or at least severely injure, but he wasn't terribly bright and was (apparently) drunk at the time. Apart from that, nothing I've heard of. My school's fairly small... also I live in Canada (it may be among Canada's most crime-ridden cities, but it's still nothing compared to American major cities). Other than that, really just the normal stuff. Some people come to school high or drunk, some people use the lunch hour to get high or drunk and sometimes out-of-school brawls mean someone breaks a limb, but that's about it.

Although I have also thought about lighting myself on fire at school. Not in the "I want to die" way, but in a prankish sort of way. Find that stuff that burns "cold" (doesn't actually burn what its on), wear some fireprook clothes, then light myself up and walk down the hallways.
There is absolutely no possibility of that plan going horribly wrong. None what so ever.
I know, right? That's why I thought it was such a good idea!

Tell you the truth, I wasn't planning on doing this like some unprepared idiot. I probably would have researched the necessarily safty stuff before hand to make sure nothing unfortunate happened.

Some kid pulled a knife on some other kid. And then bragged about it later. Then got "suspended until further notice". That was about a week ago.

Oh, for those wanting to know, they confirmed today that the kid has died.
Not exactly surprising, considering that over 70% of his body was in critical condition, but sad nonetheless.

At my high school there was an Aids 'outbreak'... and someone stabbed another kid because he was hearing voices.

Fights, drugs, typical public high school drama.

One guy showed up to a football game drunk and vomited all over the rows in front of him, so I guess that's something.

At my school, we had some bomb threats, but nothing serious, and there never was a bomb. Just a threat and a suspicious map of the school.

In chronological order:

A science teacher got her hair caught on fire and at the time it was funny, but thinking back it must have been pretty terrible.

A teacher got bottled by some former students. I was at the bus stop when these people I recognised who used to be in the year above me were drinking/smoking weed. Anyway I assume they approached this teacher who shouted "stop....stop...STOP!" *smash* and then they just calmly walked away. He left the school shortly afterwards.

Druggies broke into the 6th form hut and burned a few holes into the furniture as well as leaving behind a fair amount of needles and other stuff, as well as stealing some things from the adjacent room that belonged to a teacher.

My customer services teacher when I was in 6th form came to school drunk and started talking about his ex-wife...we offered him a coffee and he then went on to teach the lesson somewhat. You could smell alcohol on his breath and shortly afterward he was kicked out.

Plus lot's of other crap.

What do you expect from a school that was the second worst in it's burrough and had to trick teachers from as far away as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to go and work there. I had about 50 teachers in 5 years.

Woah...Small World, I'm in a selective too, usually it's very safe and good, The school I go to is fairly good students, exceptions of course but still.
Dude, really?

Imma Rusian, how 'bout chu?

Always glad to meet another nerdy nerdington.

Together, we shall be beaten up by the students from other schools, us merry band of brothers. ^-^

Oh, and so I don't get Off Topic, here's a merry little treat for all you boys and girls out there.

A loooong time ago, at my old school, there was this kid, who was a total psycho. Mentally ill, is what I'm sayin'. Vincent, I think he was called.

In any case, while there are many stories to be told about Vincent, the first one I can recall, is that he once took a screwdriver, tried to stab one of the teachers in the eye, and then jumped out of a window, at least 2nd story.

The worst part about this otherwise run of the mill story?

This was in PRIMARY SCHOOL (meaning we were all 5-12 years old).

In middle school someone kept calling the office saying there was a bomb in the school. We had the bomb squad going through our lockers and shit regularly, and we actually had security guards hired in. This lasted for almost a whole entire semester. In the end it turned out to be some fat kid that didn't want to go to P.E.

Seriously.

This is where our tax dollars go.

What the f*ck kind of schools are you people attending? A grenade? Machetes? I lived in some bad neighborhoods where the schools required a metal detector, but holy sh*t. I don't know where you people live, but damn.

My primary school sports teacher was Keli Lane. You won't have heard of her, but it's kind of a big deal in Australia. She was this waterpolo star who killed her two day old baby daughter Tegan (allegedly). Yes, she was teaching me at my school after the murder took place, but the murder allegations and public of the missing baby occurred after I was at a different school.

The trial is still going on now, I think: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/7943323/truth-about-baby-too-dreadful-to-admit

well, it was before i got there, but a science teacher from my first high school tried to kill a bunch of people by opening all the valves on the bunsen (spelling?) burners and leaving both doors to the room wide open. there was some event (think it was graduation, but i cant remember the story completely) that evening, and since school was closed that during the day, he had several hours to let the gas spread. fortunately, the resource officer was there and smelled something funny (good god, thats one dark unintended pun...damn), and found the source.

totally leaving out some details, but its been forever since i had heard or even thought about it. forgot whether he wanted to off himself with it as well or if there was a bomb or other timed device to ignite it. either way, the plan got shut down, and its a pretty good bet that he's in a psychiatric institute somewhere.
<interesting, In my previous school we have a similiar story. One of the chemistry teachers forgot to turn the valves of aand the school could have exploaded. Maybe its a wandering tale?
My school is in sweden by the way.

The worst that happened at my school was that someone put a can of rotten fish in the ventilation system and filed the whole school with the rank aroma of . . . .mature fish.

well, i dont know about that, because the two sources i heard it from was the resouce officer and a teacher who taught there at the time, and they were both people of integrity (and not stupid enough to forget that people would find out such a lie pretty quickly). its possible that both are true. its pretty easy to believe a decent, if absent-minded, man could set up a potential disaster the same way an unstable man could intentionally. like running a gasoline engine in a garage; the only difference between an accidental death and a suicide is intent.

mature fish, though. :) finally! something i can joke about on this thread without feeling like i deserve to go to hell! except, its a sex joke, so id probably go to hell anyway.

Hahaha, it's hilarious reading the reactions of people who don't live in the US talk about how scary and horrible it must be to live in the US.

We live in a country of 300 million. These wild stories are random bits of rarity. We have more cities, so we have more inner city schools, more poor people, more ghettos. So we have more gang violence, desperate people and crazies.

But seriously, my school has security guards and metal detectors. When we had a bomb threat, it was a real treat because we didn't have class for an hour. No one ever brought guns when I was there and when there were fights, the police would taser them if they didn't stop.

So it was fine.
Yeah because a school that needs fucking security guards and metal detectors sounds like a happy place for learning and education...

Its just sad, really...
