You're school is a terrible place. We had fights (I actually walked over one in my freshman year, two girls fighting on the floor, I didn't notice until I was already past 'em), but no shootings on campus, no burnings, or stabbings. LOTS of mercury spills though. Lots, and LOTS. Especially my senior year. Was kind of hilarious.
Mercury? Cool! But just to point out, the stuff is essentially harmless (toxicity wise) unless you ingest it or bathe in it. Any and all fuss that was generated because of it was sadly wasted :(
Well who really wants to take the risk?

OT: The worst thing that happened at my school was some ass-hole man brought a knife to school (A large one, really large one.) and stood on the little kids playground, we were all detained until the police arrived to clear up the situation.

Oh, and my old maths teacher is now a convicted paedophile :(
I... wait... what the fuck? How did that go down occur...
To be fair to him, he was always a really sound guy, never tried anything on any of the students. There was a rumour going around that he was cheating on his wife with an 18 year-old ex student when I was still at the school (about 5 years ago), but nothing was proven. Then he left the school, started working for a bank somewhere, then about 6 months ago he got caught in a sting where he tried to set up a meeting with a copper pretending to be a 12 year old called Jessica... Turns out he'd been going into chatrooms and pretending to be a 13 year old guy and trying to get kids to take and send pictures to him.

This kid brought a gun to my school once. No, he had no intention of using it. He brought it to give it to a friend because his friend's dad wanted to buy it.

Stupidity at its finest.

My art teacher was arrested for having sex with a minor using a foreign object. Nothing else really because my school was cleaned up quite a bit a few years prior to my joining. Fights, drugs, and students with lots of guns. There was a shit load of gang crap there for a number of years.
Please tell us what they object was xD

Wow, some of these schools sound really messed up. Mine never had anything as bad as bomb threats or guns, but, as an all-boy school, there were a few incidents that I'll always remember.

In the afternoon, the bus was driven by a little Asian man. He had absolutely no control over us kids, so we took advantage of that. We had mass food fights almost every day, wrapped toilet paper all over the inside of the bus, and hung entire rolls out the window, and at every red light was stopped at, everyone on the bus would stand up, grab the bars at the top, and tip the bus. We got so much movement from that bus, you could see the fear and shock on the faces of the drivers stopped next to us. We came within a whisker of touching those cars. Once, poor little Asian man forgot to turn off the video camera, and he was very quickly fired.

We also used to throw stuff out the windows of the bus. Banana skins and general rubbish on the back of utes and trucks, never anything dangerous like splattering their windshields with eggs, etc. This one time, a kid missed and hit someone's window. The car proceeded to follow the bus, and pulled infront of it when it pulled over. Two guys hopped out and got on the bus (why the bus driver let them on at all, I'll never know). They walked up to the kid and smacked him in the chops, at which point the two guys got jumped by just about every one else on the bus. Ah, good times ^.^

Nothing major has really happened at my school. We had fights break out very often, and EVERYONE would rush over to watch. As soon as a (formidable) teacher came along, everyone would then run away as quick as they could. It became somewhat of a game, whereby people wouldn't discuss the fight, but rather the means by which they cheated death from the stampede of students. You can't really imagine it unless you see it in person; a thousand students rushing to one spot, and then rushing away in a matter of seconds.

Of course, that was probably the worst of it. I was very happy with my school, and always felt safe. The shenanigans were a pain in the ass for the faculty, but not overly dangerous or threatening for us.

A friend of mine who saw the event said that her class was interrupted by screaming that wouldn't stop, and they looked out into the hall and saw a student on fire with black smoke going everywhere.
She said that she saw his bones and skin melting and dripping on the floor.
They said it was a chemical fire, and it would have been impossible for it to have occurred accidentally.
The kid was taken to a burn center, and I heard he lost his arm and they don't know if he will live.

While the school was on lockdown for 2 hours, the cops found a kid that had a GRENADE, who was completely unrelated to the kid on fire.

No one at this school ever smiled again.

But for discussion value, what is a crazy/dangerous event to happen at your school?
Has anyone ever brought a FIREARM1 to school?

1I'm going to hell.
Chemistry Class used Flammable Chemicals!

IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE.
I'll burn in hell for laughing at that one.

Although I have also thought about lighting myself on fire at school. Not in the "I want to die" way, but in a prankish sort of way. Find that stuff that burns "cold" (doesn't actually burn what its on), wear some fireprook clothes, then light myself up and walk down the hallways. The cafeteria has the big long window-wall that goes along this one really long hallway. So essentially do this while a lunch is going on then just go down the bordering hallway. Whether I would run screaming or walk calmly I never figured out. Couldn't decide which would be more hilarious. Main reason that I never did is because I'm sure that I would be in some deep-shit. And not just with the school to, I'm sure that some other authorities wouldn't take kindly to something like this. And I'd probably have to had my mind checked out make sure I'm not insane ("I swear it was just some random idea I had while bored and walking down a hallway.")
I'd really like to see that. But the real danger of lighting yourself on fire isn't getting burned, there's a lot of gear designed to prevent that. The real danger is not getting any oxygen because the flames consume it all. But if you're aware of that I'll help you. Heck, I'll join you. :D

OT: Nothing what so ever happen at my school. At least nothing dangerous. Some guys playing CS in class isn't dangerous, despite what politicians say. xD

I remember seeing my middle school principle being arrested on school property to face groping-a-13-year-old-girl related charges. That was pretty crazy, at least he got a promotion for his troubles. :/

Other than that there was a large drug bust, and a totally blown out of proportion incident involving smoke bombs or "incendiary devices" in high school.

In high school I found a switchblade lying on the floor and turned it in. If I remember right, we had one bomb threat that led to a short lockdown, like only 15 minutes or so. One kid also committed suicide. Other than that, nothing out of the ordinary. We had some stoners, but they all dropped out by junior year. College was actually quite pleasant. They used the generally tight-knit campus community to their advantage for safety and security. If you tried to pull ANYTHING violent, you became an outcast. But for the average student, life was good.
You turned it in?! Good God, why?
What else was I supposed to do? I look down just after lunch in front of the cafeteria, and there's a switchblade just lying there with no evidence whatsoever as to why it would need to be there. I didn't pick it up or anything, I just alerted the nearest faculty member to it, and they took care of it. For all anyone knows it wasn't meant for anything violent, but better safe than sorry with that, IMO. Nobody ever got into any violent altercations at my school (another quiet small town school) and it's likely that one bomb threat was just something taken way out of proportion. There was just an annoying stoner problem.

Accidentally is a wide term, he could've been cooking shit up in the chemistry lab perhaps? I remember we were taught some safety points when we were first allowed into our lab back in high school, getting your hands on a extinguisher was definitely one of them - if he wasn't put out immediately.... well I don't want to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like he was trying to cook something flammable on purpose (and on his own) and it went wrong. Not really far fetched, hell, I thought about making homemade napalm for a good few minutes several years back before, you know, my brain kicked in >.>

But yeah, that's really fucked up mate, being set on fire is the absolute worst way to go (and I might even say narrowly surviving it could well be worse :S ). Poor girl too, can't imagine how traumatizing it would be to even see that. I can't believe the school just went on with business as usual either, would imagine most students would wanna be there for the guy, waiting for news at the hospital.

Wow, that's incredible :| I would be left in such a state if I saw that.

As for my school (going back to secondary school) we did have a kid that got a javelin through the shoulder. We only saw as much as the ambulance driving away, so I wasn't one of the ones that saw what actually happened. But that was a complete accident, nothing like people showing up and threatening other kids or tutors or whatever.

Nothing that scary happened in Australia, well in school anyway. Worst that happened in my school was a lot of broken car windows, my brother was caught with marijuana (not smoking) and I was hunted down by a group of teachers after scaring them all with an air horn on the last day. :D

I dunno, I was just around the corner and my (now wife) was meters away. I think she'd say something like a crossbow shooting is pretty scary.
Well, what can I say except quote that one line in the article ("It was horrifying, it was like something you only hear about in America,".)

Wow...

I'm reading through this, and now I'm feeling kind of jealous...

I'm in a Selective School, the top one in the state, in fact, which means that here in Australia, you do this test, when you're fairly little, and after that, you get taken away from all the crocodiles and drop bears, told that now you probably won't have to carry a weapon with you ALL the time, and have your usual knife-fighting classes reduced to one a week. :(

In any case, the worst that I can remember happening, was that some kid got pepper sprayed by the cops, though it was some kid from a different school, trying to break in, and start a fight, or something.

The worst thing from a student would probably be this dude I know, who's just a total asshole.

He beats up on girls, man.

That's not cool.

Well, once in the 5th grade I pissed off a classmate so much he threw a table at me and chased me around the school building with a pair of scissors for two full laps, before I spotted an ajar window just round a corner of the building and flung it completely open.
He banged his head on it so hard he fell unconscious.

Wow... thats freaky. :( Before I came to school, some guy nearly blew his hand off with a firecracker. Thats all I can think of. My school is boring. Actually, that might not be a bad thing.
