- Taylor Swift (probably a nice girl, but her music is horrible)
- Nirvana
- Elvis (He would never be considerd the king of Rock n' roll if it wasn't for that acceptable white skin of his.
- Wofgang Amadeus Mozart (Realy? Greatest musical genious ever? I suppose he fits in to the "good, but overrated" catogory along with Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden etc.)
/opinion i guess
Actually my brother-in-law had an internship at CMT, met Taylor Swift, complete *****.
Nirvana... come on
Elvis, yes, Chuck Berry FTW.

MOZART?!? seriously? the man composed entire symphonies and operas in his head! No one has ever found a rough draft of his works, they came out of his head finished. Nobody since has had this kind of raw musical talent. On the other hand, his musical genius aside, I will say that I don't really like his style much, I much prefer Beethoven or Vivaldi, but no one can deny his talent.

Nothing's overrated when you're referring to personal opinions, especially when it comes to music and other forms of media.

Crappy pop singers can't really be considered "overrated", since everyone outside of their target audience thinks that they're terrible. I interpret "overrated" as bands that are loved by critics and considered artistically meritorious, but still suck. For this reason, I believe that Radiohead is the single most overrated band in human history.
Exactly. Picking on pop stars is like shooting fish in a barrel.
And you're right about Radiohead too.

OT: For me, The Beatles. They were alright. Sometimes.

The gig was ok, the band were ok, i didnt even know who they were when i saw them, but yeah, why all the insane love?
Who is everyone? I know one person who listens to AILD and I don't think they love them.

Who really cares? The Beatles aren't the greatest band of all time either, the best band ever is Nickelback.
Nice trolling there...

To be honest Lady Gaga is in the very mainstream music scene and she makes amazing music. This is coming from a die hard metalhead. She also preaches a good message. It's sad that she's thrown in the same pile as Bieber.
lol, dude, i got like 30 bites. people should know by know that any mention of nickelback on the internets is a joke.
You deserve this

OT: Don't really care if people like things more than me or less than me. When they get annoying about it to my face though, then it pisses me off.

Every band/singer they play on those top 30 radio stations.

And most every modern rapper.
Really? Every modern rapper? Every popular artist?

Kanye West is not overrated
Outkast is not overrated
Big Boi is not overrated
Clipse is not overrated
Currensy is not overrated
MF Doom is not overrated
Das Racist is not overrated
Shabazz Palaces is not overrated
People Under the Stairs is not overrated
Deltron is not overrated
Big KRIT is not overrated
Adele is not overrated
Lupe Fiasco is not overrated
Cee Lo Green is not overrated
Dr. Dre is not overrated
Eminem is not overrated
Mumford and Sons is not overrated

Things are popular for a reason, I didn't know people still said stuff like "rap and top 40 music sucks"

Like what you like and dislike what you dislike. Music is subjective, nothing is "overrated".

You're my new hero.

Also, I don't find too much to be "overrated", but there are plenty of decent bands that I think are underrated and by all rights should be more famous than they are. But then, I try to avoid listening to pop, country, or rap, which is all the radio plays around here, so...

The Stones.
... metallica shouldnt be as big as they are, since they stole a good portion of thier songs.
More like 1 and a half albums. Granted they were their two best albums, but the albums after that were still incredible.

if you read, I amended my statement about the Stones afterword and basically all but said it was a joke putting then there.

As for Metallica, I'll stand by it. Lady Gaga and JB are selling disgustingly large amounts of CDs and raking in even more disgustingly large amounts of money, but I'm sure we would say they're overrated.

A lot really, but then again I don't really care, I'm sure there is people that disagree when I say Radiohead is the single best thing ever. Even I disagree with that sometimes because music is not a static entity.

Music is a fluid substance very closely linked to memory and emotion, it is so easy to change how good music is. Have a bad day? I no longer like Dimmu Borgir. Have a REALLY...BAD day, I probably really love Dimmu Borgir again.

I like a lot of music, there is 'some' rap, a lot of metal mostly power, symphonic, some black.
I like orchestral and choir and j-pop/rock/whatever, tv themes that defy broad genre but just make me feel happy.
I likes all my experimentals, and alternatives, and electronics or whatever.
I can be a bit of a 'heretic' some times and say some things I don't mean but I like the Beatles generally, I like some really old stuff I hear but I don't hold them as gospel.

So I guess I'll break that all down and say something like:
"I Love Music... Period."

Ok i'll bite. Why?
I..he...Oh, fuck it. Just watch this.

Now, granted Terry Gross is...ech. But regardless, he makes himself out to be the worst kind of douche. Even if it's just a pose, just the willingness to act like that is...ugh. To be candid, I couldn't tell you exactly what it is that bothers me about that creature. Just a bad vibe, I guess.

Sorry, I only meant to include the Metallica quote in there. I didn't mean to take your Stones comment out of context. Whoops :)

Mozart, Brahms, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Metallica, Almost all of Gangster Rap, and a lot of pop artists. The list goes on and on, but I'm a little tired.

All of them are pretty overrated though. The beatles and stones especially. I can only bring to mind eight or nine songs from each of them that I actively like listening too, yet some people act like they were the second coming or something.

I remember telling people in high school that few people would well remember Hootie and the Blowfish and that no one would really care for them. And, just like Jewel, "Hootie" had to "go country" to hold onto anything resembling mainstream success.
lol, hootie

i remember the jokes,
"here use this cassette"
"Hootie and the Blowfish?"
"Yeah, they are cheaper than blanks"

How i laughed

Also, i think you will find that Jewel actually started out as "country" and had to make herself into a cookie cutter slut to make it big
