Hi, i'm 15 and us such, ever so slightly insulted by the title you chose for this thread, moving on...

Age really isn't important here, if you'd been in the same situation with a 30 year old man you'd still have thought he was a dick, you just wouldn't be able to stereotype him since he's not surrounded by those with the same tastes and ideas. I also fail to see how someone is "uneducated" simply on the basis that they either disagree or don't understand your opinion, as it happens i enjoy LoZ but i don't really regard it as a big kind of thing, i sort of see it as a game, an influential game, but just a game nonetheless. My gripe here is that apart from anything, you're grouping anyone under a certain age into one big group you can poke the fun out of, which isn't particularly constructive.

Yes, that thirteen year old kid was a dick, but the response was hardly calm and rational and frankly you both seem fairly childish to me. *Rant mode OFF*

Incedentally, and i doubt anyone does it delibrately, a few people have a tendency to sound really patronising when speaking on behalf of the youth, i know it's not intentional but it seems like a bit of an own goal.

I thought you were going to say they're uneducated because they used a homophobic slur to describe a game.
Calling each other gay and retarded means you both lose ;)

Anyway, (I'm presuming) you weren't brought up on something a generation older than you enjoyed. You wouldn't be happy if someone older than you called you uneducated because you prefer 30 Seconds to Mars to The Carpenters.

Zing! Hah, really got him there. Man, that kid sounds so immature. Good thing you were there to put him in his place, or who knows what would have happened?

Well, I'm a younger gamer and I can certainly say that, while a disappointing number of us are like that, I can definitely say that I can tell a crap game from a good one and if you ever see that kid again then I'd recommend slapping him upside his face for giving younger gamers such a bad name.
Why because he is expressing his love for another and his hate for something else? If I ever see you I would like to give you a good slap. I never found to much fun out of legend of zelda, no I don't think it was the best game of all time, so now you hate me?
Sorry, I have a bit of a habit of being more harsh than I mean to be. The thing that gets on my nerves is less the game of his preference, but the fact he's so close-minded to call any game he doesn't like "gay", which is unfortunately a common problem.

So yeah, sorry about how harsh I sounded there.
I am actually very sorry. I was in a SUPER. dark place there I shouldn't of open'd up on you like.

Hey guys,

So tonight at church, my friend was playing the theme from inside Link's house on piano (from Zelda OOT obviously) and this kid who was probably 13 came up and said, "Legend of Zelda is such a gay game!"
"Why do you say that?" I inquired
"Because you run around as a gay little elf!"
"You're retarded" I replied.
"You know what is an awesome game" he said "WWE vs Smack down!"
"Now THAT'S a gay game! You watch 2 muscular sweaty men in underpants touch each other!"
I then turned back to my friend and kept listening to him play piano.
Wait a second, the young are being stupid about things that where made before their time? Oh noes, this is completely new and unique *glances at all the 'great' rock his folks used to keep* Yep... never happened before in the whole history of humanity. Indeed.

I have friends who have played and beaten every Final Fantasy game ever made... that's just sad.
What's so sad about that? I assume you've completed quite a few games as well.

Also, including spin-offs/sequels or just the main series?
It's Final Fantasy. They're 30 hour long films and the input from the player can be boiled down to "Keep hitting Auto-Attack until the victory music plays, then run forward, rinse repeat."

The story is very un-interactive, and gameplay is boring, and the whole "RPG" bit isn't even really RPG.
Final Fantasy trolling in a young people trolling thread? How can you expect your critical opinion on a work of narrative fiction to be taken seriously with a picture of ANAKIN FROM THE STAR WARS PREQUELS as your avatar???

So what if that kid had a different opinion as to what a good game is? You still think Zelda is a good game, he still thinks Smackdown is a good game, and guess what? Life goes on.

err..

im confused, where does education come in gaming?
and why are you talking about games in a church?

and you can't really say a kid is uneducated since there minds haven't fully developed yet

Rather apt reply given the nature of the thread.

It doesn't even really matter if the kids have grown up with the games or not. I know people who grew up playing video games but will still say things like "The Legend of Zelda never really appealed to me." It has more to do with how open minded and understanding people are. Lots of games are great, but very few can be interpreted and more so appreciated well by casuals. I think Legend of Zelda is one of those games. Nearly every Zelda game is awesome and it is an adventure, but when you look at the bare bones of it, the gameplay, setting, that stuff is something that more casual and close-minded players will be turned off by because they like to nitpick silly reasons or differences of appeal and think it's a legitimate negative aspect of something.

It doesn't just happen with games, it happens with everything. Society itself doesn't give most stuff a fair chance.

That's pretty much the latest one.

From what I've played they were fun games, maybe not RPGs in the western sense of the word but still fun nonetheless.

Also, I can generalise too.

FPSs are 5 hour long brown shooters with next to no story and the input from the player can be boiled down to "Get behind chest high walls, hold down the fire button until everything's dead, rinse and repeat."

The story is very un-interactive and (I find) the game-play boring.

Total horseshit. Don't treat your opinions as facts.
