Honestly, unless it is an actual photo of a real child currently under legal age, it should be legal.

Hell, how do you even define the age of a fictional character? one could draw a 4 year old having sex and the artist could say that's she's actually 89 years old.

And there are people around in real life who have stopped aging:

That girl is 16 years old. 3 years from now, she would be of legal age.

If you can't even say with certainty that a photo of a girl who looks like that is 16 or 3, then how can one possibly say that a FICTIONAL person is?

Guess which nation has the lowest sexual abuse rates?
No, guess which nation has the lowest amount of REPORTED cases due to one of the worst systems in place for helping those victims, along with the shame that comes with it all.

Throw statistics around, but only if you know why they are that way. You can't be judging things so simplistically. In the United States there has been a giant trend for the past few decades at getting MORE crimes reported. Crime rates didn't go up in the past decades, they have simply been more well kept track of.

EDIT: I'm against the censorship in any case, but I wanted to point out an attitude that frustrates me a little bit.

Thank fuck!

Can I just say, that Japan has some really, really, really disturbing fetishes on their shelves. RapeLay [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RapeLay] is one just example.

I am all for the freedom of expression/speech...but you can go too far. Japan has a history of flirting with the border of sanity with this kind of shit and I am glad that this bill passed.

If you are reading this Japan, I am happy that you have matured a lot in my eyes.
Have you ever even played rapelay.....

It's about as sick as a crudely drawn stick figure.

I suppose you have statistics in return for such a statement then, yes?

Quite frankly, no matter which way you put it, a sexually liberal society is going to have a lot of that shame and victimization for less-than-average cases of sexual activity removed to a greater extent than a sexually conservative society is. Nations such as Japan are very much on the sexually liberal side of the scale, and have more access to non-stigmatized fictional porn in which to satisfy themselves overall.

Still, I suppose you're right. It could lead to other things but that doesn't mean it will. They'll have to fulfill their fetish somehow though...
Not trying to start an argument at all here, but is that really what you think?

I mean, I find a lot of people saying that sort of thing quite regularly and I'm not sure if it's more my own mindset at fault or theirs. I mean, I have what some people would call 'dangerous' fetishes which I have, very thankfully, found someone who enjoys the same things. However, before this person I was in and out of relationship and never felt I had to inflict this upon others. In fact, this is the first time in my life I've been able to express these fetishistic fantasies of mine.
Maybe it's just my mindset (as I have been told I don't have as much emphasis on sex as a lot of people) but I find it hard to think that if you said to a heterosexual man "you may no longer look at forced sex" that they'll take to the streets and pin a woman down. It's similar to saying that if you took Saints Row 2 away from me I'd go and shoot someone and surf on a car.

I just wondered if you think this is my thoughts in fault here, since this is something that's bugged me for a while. (Please don't eat me! I come in peace >>)

OT:

Let's see how it goes. As said, the elderly Japanese are most likely more desensitised to a lot of the things the Western world has thrown at us due to cultural differences. So, at the very least, I don't think we'll miss out on too much.

Or possibly Atlus games, should they decide to not bother making games now that they could be harshly regulated and probably banned.

The chances of us getting Catherine have just fallen dramatically.
Oh yeah. I forgot about that.
Hm... well, even still, I think they'll still release it. It isn't loli really, is it? Or am I thinking of the wrong game? >>

Also, I'm quite surprised at how many people hate loli here... like really hate it. >>
Wonder what their feelings on furries are <<
Furries, eh?

So accurate that it's somewhat frightening.

OT; This bill will probably end up being the death of manga, or not death of it, but making everything into kiddyshit like Naruto.

If we're going to play correlation try this (starts at around 0:56)

I was speaking more on average, but that video does explain it better. Thanks?

So Japan's unique brand of sexual depravity is in its last days. Now someone just needs to get the sick fuckers to stop butchering cetaceans and I might one day come to respect all of Japan.:)

in other news...

the yen's value has plummeted today following a HUGE hit to their economy XD

the fact that this stuff wasn't already regulated shows that their entertainment is REALLY behind as compared to western entertainment

I don't get the whole loli thing. Seriously what the fuck is a lolita, SIMPLIFY IT PLEASE!
Lolitas Complex is a mental issue where a person feels a sexual impulse at the sight of underage girls. It overlaps a bit with pedophilia.

Lolicon, abbreviated Loli, is the term used to coin a certain genre of Japanese Hentai, where the girls in question are underage in sexually explicit acts.

I have a question, it sounds like the bill will just be moving more things into an adult only section of stores, something like this could be a kiss of death here for a lot of series do to a lack of places to pick them up I'd like to know if it would be the same story in Japan, so how common are adult only sections in Japan?

It does sound like the bill is vague on what is adult, which I have a problem with but I do agree with the idea of the law.

That's all I have to say on this subject.

EDIT:

Aw, crap I just realized: This is going to kill a good deal of Manga, isn't it?
Ah, well. At least there's still American graphic novels, right?
