Almost everyone who is/was a part of the Wu Tang Clan at some point. There are a couple who went on to solo careers that I can't stand, but most turned out very good.
A Tribe Called Quest has been mentioned already, for good reason.
Also throwing the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash out there.
And that sums up all the artists that I like and listen to as extensively as my other music.
I myself am a fan of hip-hop (in particular Jurassic 5, Aesop Rock, DJ Shadow, DJ Signify, Blockhead, etc.), but the main problem I have with the genre is more or less the stuff that's popular in America. Pretty much everywhere else in the world, hip-hop is used to convey interesting messages that are well delivered over interesting music. Here, it's lyrically vapid shit delivered with a monotonous eighth-note flow over a 2 measure drum and bass sample. People seem to think that they can make hip-hop as a way to hide their lack of musical talent or interesting things to say, and that taints the genre. There are a huge variety of phenomenal artists out there who have to face down the stigma in the eyes of the masses that they only make generic thumping music about bitches--and that is NOT always the case.
I see hip-hop in much the same way as I see photography. Sure, anyone can do it on some level, and it's basically accessible to anyone who wants to try it, but only a few people know what they're doing and can make something interesting out of it. Photography and hip-hop (in particular turntablism or DJing) are both blends of technical skill and inspiration. Frankly, too much of what you'll see in either medium lacks both of those things. However, in both cases, the best examples of the art form are the ones which take something recognizable and twist it into something new, intriguing, and even thought provoking.

So... that went on for a while. I've still got a lot more to say here, but I don't want to get boring...

This was a really catchy song. Thanks for linking that here.
I'm not sure about that song in particular, but a lot of Aesop's producing is done by the artist Blockhead (who's pretty fantastic). I highly recommend both artists.
