Don't even get me started on how much of a pain in the ass rape and murder are.

First you have to scope out a victim(hopefully one you don't know) for a minimum of 3 months to get down their habits and rituals. Then you have to think of a good night to grab them. Make sure no witnesses are around.

You have to find somewhere to do the deed because you sure as hell can't take them to your house(unless you have a cabin in the woods somewhere. Even then, you have to have a basement or something that's only accessible through a secret door).

Then there's the whole issue of where to hide the body. And you're going to have to clean your car out to make sure there's no random strands of his/her DNA.

And an alibi. Everyone always forgets to get a close friend for those. Its the most critical part of getting away with the whole thing.

God...just get a girlfriend guys. Its way easier.
Hold up, I'm confused. I thought what you've just described was getting a girlfriend? I've had plenty. The relationships don't tend to last and honestly, they aren't great conversationalists, but what else am I going to do? Buy a woman flowers? Talk to them? Yeah, right. That sort of thing only works in movies.

Oh God, it looks like this thread is in danger of getting derailed into another sexism debate. Come on people, the Tropes vs Women thread just got locked, can't we just let it go?

WAFFLE! Keep doing your thing! Don't let another flame war start!

Oh. If that's the case and you want them to live through it, you have to use a series of techniques that will get them to like you.

This article [http://drjoecarver.makeswebsites.com/clients/49355/File/love_and_stockholm_syndrome.html] can be extremely helpful with that. And here's a personal tip.

Keep in mind that in many domestic cases of Stockholm Syndrome, the victim is often convinced that there is good in their abuser. The abuser may seem cruel many times, but they tend to tell the victim in various ways that they are trying to make things better for them, that they are simply trying to do what is best for the victim. This sort of statement is reassuring to a victim, and is something they hold with value in order to cope with the reasoning behind the abuse and as a way to convince themselves they are merely at fault for not seeing what the abuser sees. -Jitter

Don't look at me, dude, in the last couple of hours I've tried responding to people quoting me in two different threads only to find them locked. Coincidence? Probably!

Seriously though, what's up with the mods today, I got a warning earlier too for a total nothing of a post. If these shenanigans continue I'm going to have to start throwing around unwarranted comparisons to Hitler as if it weren't no thang.

Really, what post?

And on another note, I think it's the Tropes vs Women thread. It's like a brushfire. People got royally steamed in it, and now that it's been locked, people are venting in other threads. The mods probably feel a little stressed right now, not to mention we just had a thread with a guy ranting about how everything wrong in the gaming industry is our fault. (Us, not him)

I don't remember saying I wanted that. Along with abstinence, post-coital murder is one of the very few 100% effective methods of contraception.

Cheaper than the extortionate prices they charge for condoms, too.

Keeping hostages/loved ones controlled via Stockholm Syndrome seems doomed to disaster. I've read Carrie, I know how this sort of thing ends!

This one, which is apparently trolling. Sarcastic? Yes. Full to the brim with pent-up sexual aggression? For sure. Trolling? Bah!

It makes me a sad panda, since in the last four-and-a-bit years it's only my second warning, and the other was for responding too many times in the same thread :p

Ugh, I didn't even go to the Tropes vs Women one. I could see that shitstorm a'brewing, and also I'm far too lazy to read through that many pages when it's just going to be people getting increasingly irate with one another. The dude ranting about everything being our own fault was fun though!

I think they put it there just for publicity's sake. And really, it's not rape. I wouldn't even call it grope. I was really looking forward to that scene after all of Lara's moans and screams up to that point and he barely nudged her :/

Yes it is fair. If anyone had bother to watch all the actual video calmly at the time it was all clear from the start. Stupid controversy.

Am I the only one who's like: what rape scene? The dude touched her a bit and got his ass kicked by her right after.

Yes he did. Lara wasn't having it. When it comes to fight or flight, Lara was definitely fight. Knee to the groin, biting his ear and finally a hole through his head.

So that was supposed to be the "rape scene"? It's not even sexual, the dude just tries to kill Lara. I've been playing for ten hours so far and I started to get somewhat confused by now where all the rape is supposed to be, considering the whole previous outcry.

On a side note, I really wished Crystal Dynamics would have casted a real Russian for the dude. His thick accent was rather painful to listen to.

Thing is, the controversy was never really about the scene itself. It's about the way that dev described it. You kind of got the feeling he was typing with one hand, if you take my meaning.
I would disagree. The only reason the dev had to describe it was because people were all in a huff because the trailer showed Lara about to be raped. Sure what the dev said made things worse, but there was "controversy" before he said anything.

The controversy was stupid from the get go, but anyone who said so was shut down by people foaming at the mouth and enraged at gender roles, the patriarchy, quote mined comments from the developer (go back and read the whole interview, it's not nearly as bad as they made it out to be) or whatever other nonsense.

Let's be real, there's no "rape scene" in the game, because she never once actually gets raped.
Sexual assault? Yes. Rape? No.

It was an abvious publicity stunt by the publisher and it didn't turn out as well as they hoped and it was hilarious. (see also hit-nuns). Oh look guys we are being edgy. Look look. He is touching her, what a bastard he is . Don't worry folks he gets his face blasted with a shotgun in close range.

If that is not exploitation, I don't know what is.

Wait a minute! Why am I repeating myself? *looks at OP* YOU! You just couldn't leave it alone, could you. You just had to defend your precious little game against mean ol' gamers who had already found other things to ***** about and left the game alone. Guess the marketing guys succeeded. People do try to protect Lara against attackers, just as planned. Well played indeed.

Wait, that was the rape scene? Wow, that was really not worth all the fuss. I actually went past it thinking "I wonder when the rape scene is."

Thinking about it though its slighty funny, its kind of "creepy creep creepy *fail quick time event* STRANGLE!!!"

Not that I support violence towards women, but this is a game that has Lara be impaled and walk it off after 5 minutes, this comes across as a minor inconvenience, be slightly sleazed over before shooting him and carrying on with her adventure.

Um... I don't recall the issue being that Lara actually gets raped, but that the Trailer tried to evoke the "White Knight" instinct in viwers so they would want to play the game and be able to "defend" Lara from rapists.

People were upset because one of the strongest female characters in gaming was being threatened with rape by the pre-animated trailer, not that she was actually going to get raped in the game.

So yeah, I think you are misremembering what the actual controversy was.

Edit: Um, yeah, I think a LOT of you are misremembering what the actual controversy was.
