Ugh, I know. I used to love these threads in the off topic and gaming discussion but now most of them suck and I avoid these most of the time... User groups are a godsend

You can't change what people enjoy.

There is a reason that Two and a Half Men has the largest (I think) audience, and it has little to do with quality scripting and deep themes.

You are in the wrong forum if you want anything thought provoking, and you are going about it the wrong way if you have an issue with people not responding to your threads.

Some threads will get alot more attention than others simply because of the title. Have you seen the "Oh No! You're going to be Executed! What is your Last Request? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.182837-Oh-No-Youre-Going-to-be-Executed-What-is-your-Last-Request]" thread? I made that 2 days ago and it is still going moderately strong.

1:
I think that one of the only reasons threads either get applauded or ignored is because of three things: the Title of the Thread, the Content of the Thread, and the Subjct Matter of the Thread. If the thread has an interesting, amusing, or generally just attention grabbing title then more people will click on it to see what it's about.

2:
If it well thought out, grammatically correct and everything is spelled correctly, then more people will read through the post. This means that people will understand what you are talking about.

3:
If the Thread concerns an interesting thing, something that affects everyone or a majority of people, then people will post!

4:
???

5:
PROFIT!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It really is quite simple, when you think about it.

Well to be honest, I don't see this one generating that much discussion either. Maybe you should tryyyyy getting off your high horse or some shit?

Hey! She's mine!

OT: I have noticed that. I've also noticed a lot of little-to-no content threads lately.

But, so this isn't just self-promotion,
It kind of seems that way.

You complain that they're are too many bad threads, but you're admitting to pushing out tons of average threads at once, and clogging up the pages. If you make a good thread it will almost always shine through. I'd agree with you if these threads had any real poignancy but they're all just a little bland.

Well, it's more peoples opinion that decide what is a "good thread". But I agree, there are plenty of irrelevent posts out there that do nothing what-soever. I've posted a few threads asking for help with things, but I get about 1 or 2 comments that aren't very helpful. Thats when I snapped and made a poll about what favourite Breaking Benjamin song do people like.

Making a new thread complaining about people making too many new threads is a fundamentally incoherent approach to your argument.

At times I feel there isn't enough threads, hence the retreat into Forum Games and User Groups which keep me entertained for a good few hours. Once spent 15 hours in a User Group and once spent all day and night in just two forum games.

Twas fun.

No one thread usually gets any attention, and good threads are constantly being choked out by shitty ones, that rarely have a point. Too many new members on the site.

Unrelated note: here are some links to some of my recent threads that got litttle to no hits.
Here are the links, if you want to take a look. (hint hint)

But, so this isn't just self-promotion, heres some discussion: do you also feel like there are too many threads these days?

I remember the days when you would see all of your friends on a single thread...now all you see is strangers.

I don't know why I think this will be any more popular than any of my other threads, but here it is...if anyone is here to read it that is.
Oh, the irony.

It depends; sometimes there aren't enough new threads. Perhaps you've just got some bad luck on your previous threads. You should take better notice of the times when people are on and when threads are created to find a perfect time to create a new one so that it sticks out.
"a prefect time"? I thought I joined a forum, not some sort of flowchart sorority...

Also, I feel your pain. I, once too, in a deep dark history, had a pretty amazing thread(can't find it anymore, was about games you played over and over). I had to bump it 3 times before it took off, because people rather posted what they had for breakfast...

A quick edit, I noticed Furburt's post a little late:

There's a simple enough solution, is that instead of relying on the 'latest posts' bar, just search the forums manually. Believe me, you will find something worth commenting on. Comment on that, and usually, it'll get bumped and other people will comment on it too. The latest posts thing has always gone very fast.
I always use the latest post bar whilst exploring the rest of the site. Usually read up on mu Stolen Pixels, or something else that requires a lot of refreshing.

I don't have a problem with the number of threads that are posted as most of them don't interest me. My only problem is when I do see a thread that grabs my attention but it has received 60 replies in 20 minutes, it's pretty difficult to create any input in a thread that is being bombed by respones.

If you want a thread with lots of views and posts you probably have two choices. Either make a thinly disguised list or vs thread, or else give the thread an ambiguous or misleading title - causing people to click it just to see what the hell it's about.

In my opinion there aren't too many threads. There are plenty, sure, but that's the way I like it. However, there aren't enough threads made at around 1 or 2 in the morning EST which is when I'm on if I'm not at work. The forums get pretty barren around then.

I'd love it to be more threads! It's a question of organization.
40 posts can be more than enough.

So you've created a thread complaining about how there are too many threads? I hope the irony isn't lost on you.

Well maybe a lot of people don't want massive spoilers for a game they are either playing or going to play. That would explain one of the threads.
But also sometimes it depends on the time you post new threads, if you post when most people are at work or asleep then you won't get many replies and the thread will die before most people get a chance to read it.

Last ditch effort to get some of my threads recognized, and see where some of the other escapists stand on the subject of over-population.
To quote Sam Elliott for The Big Lebowski, "Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you." I had good threads and bad threads, it's hit or miss.
