[philosoraptor]Is it even possible for a current generation's game to be overrated, let alone enough so for there to be a list. After all, in the next generation, it's even possible for current darlings to shake out as bad or worse than those earlier in the same generation, but only time can tell.

A list such as this can only truly be devised after this generation ends and the new one establishes itself, lest we are hasty in our condemnations.

I plan to, just waiting on the new NVIDIA cards to drop so I can have the best experience. Honestly I'm expecting a Wolfenstein: The New Order-style experience but Doom-ier which sounds great. But whether or not it feels like Doom and Doom II... well, I have my doubts but I also want to keep an open mind about it (I've been avoiding any long-form gameplay videos). One advantage I would say that Doom 2016 has over its predecessors is vertical movement (because you couldn't have overlapping rooms in Doom, not vanilla Doom anyway).
I'm curious to see what you think of the game. But moreover, I'm curious what you think of the game's soundtrack.

You're clearly a long time DOOM fan, like myself, and I've gathered from your posts on this forum that you have an affinity for music, so I'd like to hear your thoughts on it.

Personally, I think Mick Gordon knocked it out of the park, but I know my opinion isn't universal.

From what I've heard the soundtrack sounds fantastic (though maybe a bit excessive). To be honest as catchy as some of the original Doom and Doom II's tracks were, they were basically corny MIDI renditions of early 90s metal tunes arranged in a horrendously repetitive 12-bar-blues structure. I always thought Aubrey Hodges' soundtrack for the PlayStation version was far superior, with its dense ambient textures. This coming from an obsessive metal fan.

Mick Gordon's soundtrack sounds like a blend of the two, only the metal parts aren't flimsy MIDI riffs they're gigantic industrial death metal epics. Nine Inch Nails meets Meshuggah. It also helps that since playing the original Doom I've been craving more and more extreme and diverse styles of metal.

Ugh, I'm a fellow metalhead but I cant fux with that Doom soundtrack. The tracks are too repetitive and devoid of nuance for my tastes. I've resorted to turning the music off and replacing it with my own collection of Doom specific toons. Here are a couple that I use

Funny that you dig the psx soundtrack. I'd first replaced the soundtrack with those tunes before using the stuff I listed above hahaha.

In terms of pr0n? No... In terms of the game itself? I don't know...

Other than that, uh...

I actually ended up installing Ultimate Doom (due to my dissapointment with the latest title), but using wads that replace the sound effects and soundtrack with those from the PS1 release. Works much better if you ask me, and ironically enough in doing so it nails the atmosphere Doom3 tried to go for far better.

RE: Doom 4 soundtrack, to be quite frank, outside 2 songs it is very forgetable, and the worst Gordon has composed until now. When I played through the game I just had Winamp running for the music.

This generation? I dunno, whichever five someone else likes that you don't like. Does Destiny count? Or is that one too old.

Oh oh, I know. Silent Hills-- wait. Er... the Last Guardian-- wait.

I dunno, can I qualify the word "overrated" as the most overrated thing of this generation?

Uncharted 4: Really, it is VERY hard for me to believe a game like this is even considered quality.
Tomb Raider/Rise Of The Tomb Raider: I never liked Lara Croft as a character and sex symbol or opposite she is not an interesting character nor is her series of games.
Mortal Kombat X: I love fighting games and hated this. Imporved/faster gameplay yes, but terrible business practices, abandoning the PC audience and all the goddamn casuals who eat the shit up like files in the world's most active shit hole just made me angry and sad. Also the TV series was super cringeworthy.
Cawadooty?: Honestly I think this series is beaten and tired even by the casual low standard, but its still is where it is. So Call of Duty for the sake of its recent years.
Fallout 4: I tend to like Bethesda games, especially The Elder Scrolls, but im in and out with Fallout and Fallout 4 really did not appeal to me at all. Yet its pointless hype went to insane levels and apparently derailed a porn site or something.

5. Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One

Despite the praise for it's thrilling tale of love and betrayal, I just can't help but feel the gameplay fails to live up to the story being presented here. Frankly it would have worked much better as a Telltale style adventure rather than what they ended up delivering.

4. Evolve

Yeah I know this is a bit of a sacred cow and that I might piss of the bajillions of fans out there, but I gotta be honest: It didn't do anything for me. As much as I love asymmetrical gameplay the balance just never quite sat right with me. Maybe the future expansions will win me over.

3. Battlefield: Hardline

I'm sorry but I just feel Battlefield 4 remains the superior game. I know a lot of people found the new setting and cops & robbers style premise to be enthralling, but I guess I'm just old fashioned in feeling that a Battlefield game should take place on a proper battlefield, not in a parking lot or whatever.

2. The Order: 1886

God this game is overrated. Graphics aren't everything! The fact this did so well and received such universal praise is evidence of the gaming communities casualization and the downfall of humanity as a whole.

1. Overwatch

This one time Bastion killed me: 2/10. Worst game of the decade!

Admit it, you put the Order: 1886 there just so people recognize you're joking.

Hello everyone,

4. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

Its not really a bad game but NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS Critics praise it like giving it 10/10. the game has MAJOR flaws. Combat absolutely suck, so is controlling. story is very boring. yes its worth playing game but not even close to bieng 10/10. CDPR really suck at making core gameplay elements.
Just playing through it and I've no issue with the combat tbh, surprized that so many do. The general controls I find paced awkwardly though, and I don't find the story boring as much as the game itself. Reminds me in the LOTR's in a lot of ways in that you could easily half the size of the entirety and make it would make it a much better product, and much more enjoyable experience all round.

Definitely agree that it's in the 7 or 8/10 game range, not a 10/10. The 2 sided story we saw in TW2, and the way that was executed made it far better and deeper IMO. TW3 will really struggle to get as many gaming hours as TW2 did out of me.

Goat Simulator. The use of iron sights, poorly implemented multiplayer, and forced stealth mode make this a pale imitation of the old school farm animal simulators it so desperately seeks to emulate.

Fallout 4
Even though I truly enjoyed this game I cannot help but notice that it is definitely a step back at least story wise for the franchise. Characters are often two dimensional and the story is quiet lacking in nuance. Take Fallout NV every faction had their role to play in the ending from the BoS to the Boomers all faction had Pros Con and character. The Atom Cats and Gunners have interesting ideas but no depth or relevance.

Overwatch
I would not be saying this if the asking price was just $20 lower, but at the state the game currently is rather barren for a full price release and it contains micro-transactions. Hell, even CoD has single player, coop, and multiplayer for 60$. You add this with a rather unplesent mictrosaction system it makes the game rather consumer unfriendly product.

Metal gear solid 5
The story was boring and Whisper was an awful character. I won't lie it is not my cup of tea but my roommate was awfully disappointed in it and whispers' portrayal was creepy.

Finally.... Destiny (I am sorta out of games) I took a while but this game was already critically panned by gamers and critics alike there is not much I can add. However, I had high expectations for the story, and I was left disappointed.
