Topics made to discuss other threads.
If you mean threads like this one then yes.

Threads like this that only exist so someone can tell us what annoys them about this site, even though no one cares.

Hardcore Vs Casual Gamers
CoD better then Halo or Vise Versa
Anything that is just a reason for people to prove theyre better then someone else
Example
"Post your computer rig"
Does anyone actually read those? or just say how awesome they are? looool

But yeah
Either the bragging ones or the ones that were obviously started to cause an argument

All threads by people who think they have (or should have) the right to tell people:
A. What they should write about
B. What they should think about something

Also threads by people who think they are better, or smarter, then everybody else.
In other words; smug.

That should kill these forums and the internet.

*EDIT* Oh oh oh and the threads that goes "What do you think about..." or something in that line.

BTW I'm not serious.
I think you should just stop encouraging them. If you don't like it don't post in it. It really is that easy. It's just like IRL; if you don't like something... let's say 2 lesbians kissing, just look the other way. Simple and no law or banning is needed.

Personally, I'd say religious threads: whatever message your trying to give, and however intelligent the topic may be, all its going to do is incite a flame war.
No, no, they should not be banned.
When was the last religious flame war? Some weeks ago? Can't remember.
When did we have the latest religious thread? Well, there's one running right now.
Is it a flame war? Well, it's not partciularily productive, but it's certainly no flame war.

Why don't you people see that the community actually manages to have difficult discussions about religion, politics or whatever without flaming? Everytime, somebody stomps in, says "this'll not end well" and leaves again, their prophecy never coming true.

How about this: We let the mods handle any flames that might crop up and don't have our choice of topics inhibited at all?

I got one: I hate Halo/Twilight/Popular Beloved thing threads, the OP's always thinking they're special flowers in a barren field BUT YOU'RE NOT!
Add a Wii/X360/PS3 in there too

[Decent game] VS. [Decent game]. Blah, blah, blaahh.
Descent is a decent game.

Sorry, random thought process. It's still too early in the morning.

off the record all of those things blow. OT: threads that complain about threads they hate with ops that probably scream search bar if anything has been done before because id rather see 1000 religion threads than a USE THE SEARCH BAR post.

This....

....And to clarify...I've also seen "This thread is OLD" posts...which seems to punish someone who actually used the search bar and resurrected a dying thread, no??? *ponder*

OT-No banning...just let the mods wield banhammer on those individuals who have a history of deliberately inciting flame-y-ness...

Religion, Twilight, Politics, what is your favorite(insert trivial noun here(like cereal, toast, whatever)), and mostly anything that's very controversial. Well, that could cause flamewars.

Banning a topic implies no good can come from it, when the problem is more that they are simply overused. Not that some aren't forbidden, you can find them in the forum guidelines.

The best way to discourage topics you don't like is not to post in them.
Exactly!

well... to be fair... one should use the search bar in the forums, but not everybody knows that, and thus need informing :p

true, a lot of people do put it bluntly, but just kindly mentioning this thread has been done before to a newbie and informing them of the search bar isn't a bad thing :)

You need to realize that most people here don't post in the terrible threads, but we are a large community, and a certain portion of our community wants to discuss what their favorite fast food place is.

It's like this. So, a new thread gets made rather than necroing for a topic that has obviously been done, and the topic gets to 2 or 3 pages just from people making non-substantial remarks like "Wendy's is the best", taking up space on the first page that may have just steered someone away from an actual "discussion".

In the end, I would think that while our Mods are all great people and wonderful assets to The Pist, the community as a whole really defines the overall tone of this forum. Therefore, I would think if there are enough people that don't want threads like that on here, then as a community, that should be looked into. We already hold ourselves to a pretty decent standard around here, why not take it another step?

Now, I know it's just a forum, I'm not trying to kill all the fun, if that's what it is, but I fail to see how threads like "What's your favorite console?" generate any real discussion, or merit taking up the space to keep being re-created. I wouldn't even want to see someone get punished, just lock the thread, or refer them to an earlier thread about the same thing. We have a rule against low content, it's the same reason somebody can't just post "this" in a thread and be done with it.

Yes, I am probably the only person on this forum who would like to see the Mods be more strict. Don't ban me please.

EDIT: Guess I'll have to quote some of you to get some discussion going.

Anything that starts with "Am I the only one..."

Statistically speaking, no, you aren't. Stop bloody asking.

I started a thread about atheist morality and that didn't happen.
