Personally, I'd say religious threads: whatever message your trying to give, and however intelligent the topic may be, all its going to do is incite a flame war.
I started a thread about atheist morality and that didn't happen.
fair enough, it doesn't always happen and I know that... but the thing is, the chances are relatively high of a flame war happening.

Anyone who's been on This site for a while knows what I'm talking about. The kind of threads that have been repeated over and over again, or trying to cause 'intelligent controversy' when people have already heard that argument a million times (we're looking at you, religious threads), or just plain ol' troll threads.

So, which do you think causes the most annoyance on The Escapist, and what types of threads should be banned?
Personally, I'd say religious threads: whatever message your trying to give, and however intelligent the topic may be, all its going to do is incite a flame war.
I don't think any topic should be banned but it is stupid to fight over religion it's like racism it's still a touchy topic for some people. But if any thread should be banned they are in the top five.

Okay, the discussion then turns to whether or not the chances are high enough that it becomes worth it to lose such a great topic of discussion. Someone should compile some statistics if they haven't already.

We like threads that are discussive. Heated is fine. Flaming is not. The distinction between the two comes down to approach and to the language people use. We mods all take individual approaches to where that line is because we have individual personalities and are (essentially) human but the place is generally the same. When insults start getting pulled it's time for people to be shushed.

The only threads which I would consider worth banning are those which discriminate, flame, or insult. If only everyone lived by the maxim "Don't be a dick, and don't argue with Mods."

There's a difference between debating with me on an issue as an individual and arguing with me as a mod. The former I welcome any time. Arguing with mods means instead of asking why we did something, people rant at us, about us. It gets quite annoying.

Thankyou. It's my pleasure, and I'll pass that on to the rest of us as well. We do our best.

Well, people have free will and are entitled to do what they believe. Sure, we don't always like people blurghing out how "HALO SUCKS" or "WOOOOOOO RELIGION" but to ban those things won't really help anyone.

Even though I think the forums would have very few posts if it wasn't for Trolls, I'd have to say no matter what all Halo related threads can just die.
It's always the same loser asking what gun from halo would be the coolest in real life and so on and so forth. Every time I peek into the forums, there's some damned Halo thread.
Debate provoking threads do serve some purpose, because every day there are many people who just want to argue, and debate forums are a great way to do that.
And other than that, some posters are trolling without their knowledge. Just the other day I asked what movies are good, because I need something to watch while my 360 is bricked, and naturally I was called a Troll.
But yeah, getting back on topic, I don't think there's much anyone can do without killing the forum indefinitely.

We should ban absolutely nothing, this site is mature enough to handle debate, even on hot-button issues like abortion and capital punishment. Threads expressing enjoyment for something (Halo or something) are just that, opinions, it only gets bad when people start making personal attacks and getting mad at people whose opinions different from theirs.

Frankly, I think that all the valid conversations these threads provide are good, and we can even enjoy the bad ones knowing that they help weed out trolls and other undesirables.

Seconded, it annoys me like Hell when people say that, just shut up and don't post in it if you really dislike the thread that much.
