1602 now. Sand still not moving. I wonder on which day it will stop, whether it keeps going until E3 or stops earlier.

Hmm 1602 and still nearly all the sand left? Will we finally get epic cavemen battles in prehistoric total war? Hoping for a Rome total war 2(even though any other pre medieval time period would be cool too).

I just had a revelation. What if... It will not show guns literally means it will not show guns?

Im personally hoping for Rome 2. I bought Rome shortly after I had played Medieval 2 till I couldnt stand it anymore ( naturally I kept playing ). And I just couldnt get into the rather dated graphics and, what I considered to be, sh*ty control scheme. A new Rome with better graphics and more Medi 2-Empire control scheme would rock.

As for Shogun or some type of Oriental based game, I'm excited... it means my anime freak friends will finally play TW with me >=D

Logically, due to where th timer is, how much it has to go, the interesting parts in history and the public demand, I am going to say it has to be either Shogun 2 or Rome 2. Personally I am hoping for Rome 2, just so much more scale!

If you truly consider the sand compared to time.. if it jumps the same-ish amount of time each day.. if 300 years have gone by.. it looks like more than 900 years remain

In Spring it roams not
"roams not" = not Rome

Nor will it show guns
not show guns = not Shogun

that leaves Maybe eastern sun rises
The rising Eastern sun seems to suggest Shogun, but the last line contradicts that in two ways (first of all "no guns" since Shogun did have guns, and the reason mentioned above) so it doesn't seem likely. It might be set in pre-shogun area Japan, or another Asian nation. The word "maybe" seems a bit odd here... Maybe the eastern sun rises? Does that mean that it could not rise? And if so, what does that imply? Maybe it's a game in which Japan is but one faction (unlike Shogun where all playable factions were Japanese), so you might win the game as Japan, but Japan might be defeated as well. Following that line of thought, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room left, because you'd have to pick a time where Japan wasn't isolated, but also a time that didn't have guns... Then again, this is assuming that the "no guns" line has a dual meaning. If not, that opens up the possibilities a bit more.

Hell, for all I know, maybe eastern stands for medieval.

lol people if the sand ever changes it won't change until the last day where it will simply all be shown at the bottom along with the final year. The hourglass is just a picture to represent the passing time of the countdown. Game devs are very tight-lipped; they would never give an actual way of determining the release before its announcement.

For me, I'm hoping ancient China, specifically 5th to 3rd century BC and the Warring States era. Iron begins to replace bronze, no real unifying leader, lots of historical wars and conflicts etc.
Or they could do Romance of the Three Kingdoms era, though that might step onto the toes of a certain publisher.

Has anyone thought of the Eastern Roman empire yet?

In Spring it roams not - Spring release date, not Rome
Maybe eastern sun rises - East > Byzantine Empire, not Rome > Constantinople?
Nor will it show guns - No guns back then and not Shogun

Explains Eastern Sun in the second line and how it could not be Shogun. Byzantine empire with the rest of Asia?

EDIT: Also would give us a chance to try out that new naval engine with some Greek Fire :D

That sounds plausible. Never thought of that so far and haven't read it anywhere, either. It would also fit with my guess for when the countdown ends(~800 AD).

How do we know that 2010 mean 2010 AD?
Haha, we don't. Now wouldn't that be a shock if when it's finished they reveal it's actually BC!

the hiku seems to state that the main force is semi nomadic as the possibly plant in spring and do not move it could be set in the east and it will not have and gunpoweder nor be a shogun total war. Gah CA is being evil with this one.

Or it could just be that it's intended to be a haiku, so they added "maybe" to get the right number of syllables.
That's a pretty real possibility as well. Doesn't make things any clearer though.

There's just too little info at this time to make a reliable prediction.
