My brother goes to university there. Needless to say, he cackled when he heard about this.

I find it too funny to really care, it's brilliant.

Yeah, 9 is a little on the early side, but what's the big fuss about? And it sounds like you guys have a high spoiled little shit ration over there, so win win.
Life goes on after 9pm; it's ridiculous to say this is actually fair. It seems pretty obvious that if you can wholeheartedly support a measure like this that you have put too much trust in to an institution that does not have your best interests in mind.

Well, I have no idea what the government employees of Wales is like, so it's not my place to judge.

But curfews like this aren't really that peculiar. They aren't withholding rights from adults, these are still kids in High School (Or whatever it's called over there). Yeah, 9 O'clock kinda sucks balls if there's no leniency on the weekends, and seems a tad bit early for people who want to go out to movies and shit like that, but you can keep your chin up and endure the pain of being a teenager for a few years.

Hell, me and most of the people I know really didn't have much of a nightlife till we all hit 16 and were allowed to drive anyways here in the States.

No. Just no.
Truly is madness, any curfew is ridiculous, but of all the times, as early as 9 o'clock?
That 'North Korea' comment is rather fitting.
If we start placing curfews, where will it stop..

I immediately assumed this was in the US for some reason.
Also, this is dumb.

I live in the USA so I'm not sure how things go in the UK; but here we have a curfew which is pretty much what this seems to be modeled after. It's rarely regulated over here so no idea how it'll be over there.
That's... well, I can't really decide if that's hilarious or a little frightening. That's unconstitutional, surely?

Where have all the 'Murricans gone who moaned it was unfair that woman had to take down a Whites Only sign from her pool, eh?

OT: Stupid policy, should be overturned. 9 o'clock is ridiculously early, 16-year-olds have social lives and places to be. If you have a problem with young people of that age group (and how much of a problem can there be in a small town in North Wales, really?) then deal with it in a way that doesn't infringe on other people's rights to leave their own house.

Seems a little extreme, but teenagers are little monsters who shouldn't be out past nine anyway.

Sounds like another one of those loose blanket laws that allow the police to enforce it as they see fit. I suppose its real purpose is to lessen the need for evidence and due process etc when dealing with public nuisance and disorder offences committed by kids. Gives gangs of little shits less room to wriggle out of things, which in a way is good, police can find them and just hit them with "you are under 16 and it's after 9pm, gotcha!". On the other hand giving police broad powers and just assuming they won't be used on otherwise law abiding citizens might be hoping for too much, the police aren't beyond presumption of guilt.

I would like to point out that there is no reason to ban peaceful assembly except to exert power. Keep in mind people that this is one of the laws that was imposed which made slavery in america worse. How can anyone think this is a good idea.

It seems reasonable enough to me, obviously annoying if you are of that age, but if it solves the problems they've been having then it's beneficial. I sound old when I say this, but it is the groups of kids of 14,15,16 that appear most threatening when out late at night.

Plus, all it does is rain and drizzle in Bangor, why would you want to derp in the rain when it's dark and cold.

It will also give police powers to disperse groups of two or more people, regardless of age.

More details are required here. What EXACTLY are the legislative triggers and restrictions to invoke this power?
They have always had this power it is nothing new you can be banned from an area for 24 hours for being reported as anti-social.

It is, its just that its not realized as such. Irregardless of the above post, its obviously a scam to get more people arrested so the police force feels like its doing something. Thats what I think at least, no real crime can happen there.

Honestly, I'm not entirely against this.

Seriously, there are places you just don't go past 9pm because of all the little shits hanging around in groups, heckling and intimidating people. Stand up to them and get stabbed, take their shit and possibly get mugged.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH4Yq1d5W40

Seriously, I walked past one the other night and they threw a can at me. There was a bin two feet from them, they didn't know me from Adam, I was minding my business, talking with a friend, and then straight into my chest. There were eight of the little shits as well.

So you know what?

Take their rights away, they don't fucking deserve them. I cannot think of a decent reason why any person under 16 who isn't a hoodie-wearing tracksuit entombed git who would be in a large group of people past 9 o'clock.

I am aware of the slippery slope of taking rights away, I am usually a strong believer of liberalism, but I am just getting so sick and tired of defending these people's rights in debates with friends when I am so sick and tired of them, and having no power to do anything. Because if I chase them with a bat, I ruin my life, and they just don't give a shit.
OF COURSE, IF ONE MAN MURDERED AND RAPED A WOMAN, THEN ALL MEN WILL RAPE WOMAN AND KILL THEM, TAKE THEIR RIGHTS AWAY is kinda what I read from that. Put the shit heads in jail and let the good kids do whatever that is legal.

Uhrm... Yeah. It's only 9?

It really isn't that late.

I live near Bangor, and I'd hate to see this come to where I love. Hell, I hate to see this it all. When I was 14/15/16, I was out waaaaaay later than that with my friends, and not always drinking!

What if we'd seen a film or something? Once, we went to see a production of Festen in the Theatre near us, which led way into the early hours of the morning. Would we not be allowed to see it because we were unaccompanied by a responsible adult?

Ya know I'd need more information about this location to really comment on this law. I mean maybe there is a somewhat justifiable reason for this curfew *shrug*

You're talking about Shenanigans right?

Boys don't you know you can't just declare Shenanigans unless you're really sure you ought to?

My thoughts exactly. It's Wales, after all. The country of wind, rain and drizzle.

On a serious note, a curfew is a good thing in curbing antisocial behaviour amongst youngsters at night. 2100, however, would just fuel the flames of their hive minds. 2200 or 2230 is much more lenient and fitting.
