Not a fan of the new dogfighting mechanic. I'd rather keep control of the plane the whole time, instead of going into an on-rails shooting section whenever I'm trying to shoot a plane down. I feel like the gameplay in Ace Combat 5, was pretty much perfect and didn't need to be so drastically changed. (I am aware that there was an AC6, but due to the fact I don't own a 360 I never got a chance to play it, so I'm not exactly sure how it played)

From what we know so far, the Close-Range Assault system is completely optional. 90% of the footage we've seen has been on the 'Optimum'(Novice) controls with Flight Assistance on, all which can turned off.

There is still an 'Original' control setting that allows the planes to roll with the left thumbstick, same as in the older Ace Combat titles.

You can watch some 'Original' control footage with CRA here. http://twitpic.com/5i259l

Ughh, if they're going to throw realism out the window, the first thing to go should be those annoying high-pitch warning sounds. I couldn't even watch the whole video it got so annoying.

The missile alert noise is the same as in Ace Combat 6. It's not that bad.

Last great flying game i played was Knights of the Sky on the amiga. Not to fond of these target and fire missle the dot in the background. Yeah you see all the close up dog fighting in the trailer buy i bet that will hardly ever happen when you can lock on from a distant.
Missiles track much more effectively in Close-Range Assault. You can activate it on any air target when prompted. The 'fighting dots' idea is something the developers are working hard on to change from the previous games. There's also another mode in CRA specifically for getting up close and personal when doing bombing runs and air strikes.

Looks like a very sexy game. Been a while since I've played an Ace Combat title, but not for lack of interest. Might have to pick this one up :)

While it looks and sounds really cool am I the only one who misses it not being set in Belka, Ustio, Osea with over the top super weapons.

Thank God, I was worried there for a bit. My one thought throughout the whole video was "this game looks good, if only I could fly around and fight without all the training wheels." I am glad they are trying something new to get some more fans for the series, but old habits die hard.

From what I've been following it has a few more of those... "cinematic" things that will make things look really bad-ass at the cost of maybe making things too easy. Although it is a side game and not a direct sequel to the series so if it ends up being too easy it's really no harm done as they keep going with the direct numbered sequels.

I jumped in with a couple of the older ones on PS2 but AC6 was the one I put the most time into.

It looks like it's trying a bit harder to get some new fans on board with it and I don't see it being too big of a problem.

P.S. I agree with that facebook poster that liked the remixed "Liberation of Gracemeria" theme. Was totally epic.

Looks like they up'ed the visuals of the planes from AC:6, but dropped some of the land textures in the process.

Ace Combat 5 was pitch-perfect on the sim-arcade-shooter mix. But this? This is dogfighting for pussies. Whatever happened to games like IL-2 Sturmovik and Combat Flight Simulator 2?

That looks gorgeous. And now you can blow cities up! Woot! Wait, is this going to work on a Armored Core type mission reward system, where more damages incurred = less monies? Cus they knowing me, I'll be broke.

Thoughts: Really liked the music and this seems like a game that might actually be improved with 3D tech. 3D always is most noticeable with changes in perspective and angle with objects at different distances in the air and there certainly seems to be a lot of that here.

Yeah, unfortunately your allies are normally idiots so you need most of those. Also, the higher difficulty settings will have less ammo, maybe as low as 40-50, still horrifically unrealistic, but a little more reasonable.

I've always liked Ace Combat games. I'm glad they've finally decided to get out of made up country A vs made up country B, but the real enemy is usually old enemy of A and B, made up country C.

That CRA thing seems way too easy, I hope you have to maneuver yourself on higher difficulty, although they would have to end that whole, show you really cool things as you fly by thing otherwise you end up flying into buildings.
