Damn that graphics engine looks beautiful. No idea how I'm going to run it on my PC though...
The game looks extremely realistic and the gameplay looks entertaining.

That's not the same at all!
Yeah, the sand has less "colour" than grass, but we dont even see sand in the video, we see pale soldiers wearing gray-ish uniforms in a gray city.
That is called camouflage, also there is color but most the shots were in the shadows of buildings, there are trees and such, But! that is not to say that all of these contrary are all deserts, there are quite a few trees, and quite a few green areas in them, and i would like to see some of that as well.

OH! and if my options are stand out in the open and catch shrapnel, or hide behind the van and hope they shot one of the other cars, i will take the hide from shrapnel.

There is no need to pull the charging handle, you just need to hit the bolt release with your thumb.

Heh....why did I think of Duty Calls when I saw this? it even had the random slow motion death scene.
Pretty graphics though.

Ha, I noticed the same thing. Yanking on the cocking handle every time you change mags would kinda suck.

Looks nice though.

One point though, look at Afghanistan/Iraq/Iran on google maps. They do have trees there, and forests, and lush green fields of druuggggss. The entire region isn't just desert.

I saw 'Battlefield' and 'story' in the same sentence, and simply lost interest.
Opposite effect for me.

See, I am disgruntled by the very fact that this game HAS any story. Know I'm tempted to look forward to it at all, whereas if it was just MP like Battlefield 2 or BFBC:Vietnam, I would just ignore it completely, maybe just check the Escapist review when that aired.

I'm sick of everyone fucking copying Call Of Duty. Give it a fucking break for fucks sakes.
Well that's a nice big bundle of assumptions.

COD4= "Xbox 360, PS3, Windows; NA November 5, 2007; AUS November 7, 2007; EU November 9, 2007"

BF2= "NA June 21, 2005; AUS June 22, 2005; EU June 24, 2005"

Who is copying whom, again?

The game looks awesome. Any one know the amount of players that can play online? I think I read somewhere that its 24. 12vs12.
Console is 24 player, PC is 64.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, HOLY SHIT THIS GAME LOOKS GOOD. This is a pre-alpha build which already looks better than a lot of finished games, and it's only going to get better. In addition, I'm a sucker for the Battlefield franchise, and so I'm bound to be getting progressively giddier as the launch date nears. On top of all of that, I've been quietly geeking out over Frostbite 2 for a little while (and for good reason, I believe--that lighting was pretty damn awesome). Obviously it's too early to give a conclusive statement on the quality of the finished product, but this trailer is enough to make me extremely excited for Battlefield 3.

I'll stop gushing now.

Regardless, whether someone is copying the other is irrelevant. I remember back when a maximum of 1-2 "gritty modern war" games came out every year. Now they're all over the fucking place and it ticks me off that such a great looking game engine is going to waste on another boring war shooter.
Very true, but remember when the market was straining under the weight of all the World War 2 games? These things come and go in phases: somebody makes a game, it works, people make similar games, and on and on. Soon modern war games will be run into the ground and something else will come to take its place. Until then, I suppose, it's just a storm you'll have to weather.

As for the engine being 'wasted', I'd just like to humbly point out that it's not going anywhere: Frostbite tech will still be around for DICE's next project, whatever that may be (maybe that Mirror's Edge sequel that may or may not have been cancelled?). Even if you're disappointed with this particular game, just remember that it gives them more development time for the engine to be even better for whatever comes next.

Ok, that's a pretty beautiful engine (looks like it's giving the Cry engine a run for its cash), but that totally was taking it cues from Modern Warfare 1's first US level XD I guess there's only so much you can do with that scenario, and it certainly seemed to flow nicer, but the similarities... geeze, mix it up a bit, guys! At least they had the balls to put it in the real world though. Kudos for that.

Have you played single player Battlefield 2? Because all it was just a game mode with bots. Which was fine, because that meant they could focus on making the multiplayer component fun. Compare it to the dull linear war scenarios that call of duty makes.

Now compare that to what the Battlefield 3 trailer is: a dull linear war scenario. These take a long time and effort to make, and they're all the fucking same. "Oh gee we need to stop the terrorists from using chemical weapons. Fuck yeah, America! Hurf durf"
Yeah, actually. An awful lot. I didn't have an internet connection at the time so the vast majority of my BF2 experience was single-player. Most of the multiplayer was from 2142.

I didn't think COD4 single player was dull at all. In fact, it's one of the best single player games I've ever played.

You're making a bunch of assumptions about a game based on what is, really, a single tech demo. You just want the single player to be generic. I'm gonna hold out and hope that it's just as good as CoD4's was, and the MP better.

Regardless, whether someone is copying the other is irrelevant. I remember back when a maximum of 1-2 "gritty modern war" games came out every year. Now they're all over the fucking place and it ticks me off that such a great looking game engine is going to waste on another boring war shooter.
Boring!? You've not even played it! It's not even playable yet!

As opposed to a boring peace shooter? Back then, most the shooters were WWII based for obvious reasons. Now they're present-day based, for obvious reasons. It's not like Modern-Gritty shooters are even flooding the market, really. It's the art style that's popular.

What exactly do you want, if not this game? Want another Crysis, or are they boring, too? How about Shattered Horizon? Borderlands? Alien Swarm? Killing Floor? TF2? Bioshock? ARMA? Deus Ex: HR? Bioshock?

Im really getting tired of the FPS market going into that endless cycle.

There really needs to be a good balance of gritty war games with over the top shooters.

I think there is a pretty good balance.

Even Halo ODST/3/Reach. They're all colourful. Gears of war is gritty, but also very over the top.

And now, of course, Bullet storm.
