There really needs to be a good balance of gritty war games with over the top shooters.
I think there is a pretty good balance.
Still it seems that more gritty war shooters come out each year than say shooters like Bioshock.

I know theres better examples than that

Im curious about some things, It was hard to see but I believe the computer allies actually shot some things and not every single enemy was aimed at you. Bullets were noticeably flying at your allies, not random places all over for effect (which MW2 a hell lot). Also when he says "get the f** away from the car." was that because the player walked to the car? what if he had walked behind a wall? would that still trigger the the line? MW2 did this with its earlier levels, accounting for different scenarios and adjusting character responses accordingly, it made things feel so much more polished, then they dropped it for the un-linear story c***...

That was nice but what they really need to show me is that good ol 32v32 large area action. Perhaps a prone sniper that can't hipfire a .50 cal. Throw in a guy that has to conserve ammo and only reloads when a clip is clear or close to it. And last but not least, a commander directing squads, calling out supply/vehicle drops and directing arty.

That would make my day. I mean I am already going to buy the game, but I would be a little sad if it lacked any of that. Won't ruin the game but it will make me a little sad.

Did anyone else notice that the player seems to move the gun around more while walking than sprinting? Just a minor pet peeve but I'd like to have the running first person animation look a bit... better. It kinda feels like he's running with his whole upper body completely stiff.

Anywho I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

I'm willing to let the story slide as long as it has 64 player multiplayer and lots of vehicles.

I like how when one of the soldiers gets shot you actually help him out, I hate it when allies get taken down and there's nothing you can do.

The game looks awesome. Any one know the amount of players that can play online? I think I read somewhere that its 24. 12vs12.
They announced 64 players on PC and 24 on PS3/X360
I could be wrong here but I think they actually switched it to 32 players on consoles this time.

I don't like the extremely steady shooting mechanics of BF. In BFBC2 the thing that annoyed me the most is that all you had to do was aim and account for bullet drop, instead of actually time it right n' stuff, which made *real* sniping (AKA not quickscoping) in CoD somewhat challenging. Looks like them things are still there, so I'll probably pass on this one.

That's exactly what I want. I don't know what point you were trying to prove, all of those games go for a different style/setting than Call of Duty and they prosper as a result. I think all of the ones you mentioned (Well, I didn't try ARMA or the new Deus Ex obviously) are fantastic. I want more of those.
My point is that, if given more of all of those, would you then find yourself yearning for some more gritty realistic shooters?

This is my thing here. If all the modern-gritty-shooters suddenly became bioshock clones, I should think the allure would be greatly diminished if not lost altogether.

Point is: For these other games to be special there needs to be crude cash-hogs to pay for them, so just enjoy the cash-hogs for the mindless drivel they are, like B-movies. They won't be going away any time soon, after all.

And don't make assumptions about a game which no-one really knows anything about. It's a shooter, set in the modern day. Doesn't immediately mean it's bad, just like how a shooter set in an alternate objectivist past doesn't necessarily come out good.

I'm sick of everyone fucking copying Call Of Duty. Give it a fucking break for fucks sakes.
Well that's a nice big bundle of assumptions.

COD4= "Xbox 360, PS3, Windows; NA November 5, 2007; AUS November 7, 2007; EU November 9, 2007"

BF2= "NA June 21, 2005; AUS June 22, 2005; EU June 24, 2005"

Who is copying whom, again?
Except those were two different games with different features. So not really much copying go on there, unless you count killing people online as copying.

OT: Graphically, it looks pretty damn good. Gameplay wise, just no. Looks like they took the CoD approach and make it a rail shooter, sort of how MoH. I don't expect much of the multiplayer either. This so far just looks like what they were aiming for with MoH.

Well... Meh.

Kinda starting to feel the FPS overload a little, though I am glad they decided to abandon the Bad Company squad for this time out. The comedy that was gold in the first game was pretty much the thing that saved the single player for me.

Still, looks good. Although I wish they stuck with keeping the ammo system magazine-based instead of bullet-based. Would teach people to use their ammo wisely, and reload wisely instead of reloading after firing one damn bullet.
I agree. Nowhere near enough games use that system anymore.

Not that I agree with the guy you quoted, but Battlefield was almost entirely different before Call of Duty.

This... this is Modern Warfare. What the fuck, DICE? Battlefield has always been the best modern combat game, even if the 'other guys' sell way more copies. Why did you have to go and copy them?

I only hope the multiplayer is good. Which I guess it'll be, the story in BF games is so pathetically pointless I don't even know why they bother.

The best they can do in the singleplayer department is add some immersion and breathing room. Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2 got incredibly numbing because, besides one of two missions, it was full-blown action out the ass. Let us see the effect that the Iraq war has had on these cities and its people.

This is a real place and will probably be set in a real war, maybe this game could partially do what Six Days in Fallujah couldn't. Who knows. [hey what can i say, i love the Battlefield series and im trying to be optimistic.]

I really like the atmosphere of this. It seems likes it's well paced and thought out. The character dialog seems very natural too. I'm becoming very very interested.
